- In the context of migration, ageing is described as a negative stressor for subjective perceptions of health in everyday life. Most research has adopted a biomedical perspective. An occupational perspective of health was the starting point for this study. The aim was to explore how older persons from Finland who are ageing in Sweden experienced health from an occupational perspective. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 persons who had migrated from Finland to Sweden as labour immigrants several decades ago. The interviews were analysed and interpreted using a hermeneutic approach. Participants experienced health when they managed their daily life occupations. Health was also reinforced through affiliation with others who shared similar life situations. A key health resource was maintaining a sense of dual belonging to the country of birth and to the host country. The present study revealed that the experience of health could be seen as a continuum in time and place, which creates a sense of belonging and continuity in life. Connections between health and doing, being and becoming are fundamental aspects to consider when enabling health in everyday life among older persons ageing in the context of migration.

- This article elucidates Somali women's experiences of cooking and meals after immigration to Sweden. Six Somali women participated in repeated focus group interviews. Content analysis of the interviews resulted in four themes: change in routines and content of the daily meals, changed experiences related to cooking and shopping for groceries, the social dimensions in food-related occupations, and change of identity and roles. According to the women, variety of factors related to their life in Sweden had led to changes in their food occupations and meals: environmental changes, societal factors and the fact that the women secured employment. Although their new focus on employment led to altered responsibility and time for the cooking, foodrelated occupations remained important for the creation of identity and the maintenance of the family. This study may inform the development of strategies to restrict the negative impacts of immigration on Somali women's health. Future research will increase understandings of the relationships between food-related occupations and women's roles, identity and health. © 2013 The Journal of Occupational Science Incorporated.

- This article draws on empirically derived illustrations of return to work and unemployment to critically explore how a narrow understanding of work pervades contemporary social policies and programmes. This is particularly relevant in economic and labour market transitions aligned with neoliberalism that individualise the social problem of unemployment and thus restrict occupational possibilities related to work. An overview of how work and related concepts have been conceptualised in occupational science scholarship is presented. After describing the theoretical orientation of the paper, three illustrations derived from a secondary analysis of data from projects conducted in Sweden and the United States are presented. The three empirically grounded illustrations are integrated with theory to highlight tensions between the politically informed structures that shape social policies and programmes and the individual experiences of work, unemployment, and return to work that users and providers of these programmes communicate. By asserting that success in work-related placement programmes is not synonymous with meaningful employment, we attempt to heighten awareness of the potential risks associated with a reliance on measuring work by merely being in paid formal employment.

- Incentives for teaching occupational science may vary from advancementof the discipline to providing philosophical grounding for the profession ofoccupational therapy. Regardless of the aim, the essential content of thesubject matter – occupational science – has been largely unexplored. Inseeking to refine concepts of occupation that emerged from scholarshipin occupational therapy and yet distance the conversation from anapplied perspective, occupational scientists have focused heavily on theform, function and meaning of occupation as well as socioculturalfactors effecting occupational engagement. This focus has largelydivorced the content from the exploration of the embodied experienceof and the human capacity for action. This paper seeks to challenge thatdivision by considering human capacity for action as integral tounderstanding occupation, and knowledge of body structure andfunction as key to understanding human capacity for action. We offer anexample of a course where human capacity for action is foregrounded,enabling students to more clearly understand the relationship betweenoccupation, embodied action, and body structures and functions.

- The aim of this study was to explore the influence of social ideologies on the doing, being, becoming, and belonging of Western employed professional women who are new mothers, after returning to work outside the home within the first 18 months after giving birth. Although occupational science has provided valuable insights into mothering occupations, it perpetuates an individualistic focus that often neglects the complex and multifaceted societal influence on mothering. A narrative approach was used to collect and analyse data from seven Swiss women who had returned to professional level jobs after giving birth to their first child. Hitch et al.’s (2014a, 2014b) framework was employed to analyse how social ideologies influence working mothers’ doing, being, becoming, and belonging. The findings are presented through stories that illustrate the complex interplay between social norms and participants’ possibilities for doing and being as mothers and workers. Three stories are presented: ‘Balancing being a mother and work: The aspect of doing’; I don’t want to be seen as the mother only: The aspect of being a mother and belonging at work’; and ‘As a mother, you get criticised a lot: The aspect of doing and belonging to society’. This study enriches current understandings of how social ideologies pervade the context in which occupations are performed and how working mothers are influenced by them in their doing, being, becoming, and belonging.

- This study sought to expand knowledge regarding patterns of daily occupations and, specifically, to explore and describe the daily occupations of Swedish people aged over 70 years by investigating sequences, contexts and time-use. A cross-sectional design with a time-geographic approach was used. Open time diaries from 151 participants were collected and analysed using the software VISUAL-TimePAcTS. The results were illustrated as a routine of six pooled intervals during 24-hour sequences. The intervals comprised different lengths of time and each interval was dominated by different occupations. Night was dominated by ‘care for oneself’; morning by ‘house-keeping’ and ‘reflection and recreation’; lunch-time by care for oneself; afternoon by ‘reflection and recreation’; dinner/tea-time by ‘care for oneself’, and evening by ‘reflection and recreation’. The results were also illustrated as characteristic profiles of occupations visualised by the number of participants in each occupation during 24-hour sequences. Occupations were mainly supported by the home environment. Summed time-use showed the highest proportions in ‘care for oneself’ and ‘reflection and recreation’ occupations. To what extent health and well-being experiences of patterns of daily occupations might be related to challenges and fulfilment of basic occupational needs requires further investigation

- The aim of this study was to identify characteristics of temporal patterns of daily occupations that could be related to high and low subjective health among older adults in Northern Sweden. A cross-sectional design imprinted by time-geographic methodology was used and participants 70 years and older were purposively selected and divided into groups of high and low health using the SoC-29 and SF-36 questionnaires. Daily occupations data were registered and analysed using VISUAL Time-PAcTS and related to health conditions using SPSS. The results showed that the participants in the high- and low-health groups showed similar patterns of participation in occupations during the 24-hour sequences describing their daily routines. Some differences in patterns of frequency and duration of occupations were shown between health groups during the 24-hour sequences as well as within six intervals. The low-health group showed higher frequencies and longer durations for “care for oneself” and “reflection and recreation” occupations and lower for “house-keeping” and “procure and prepare food” occupations compared to the high-health groups. There were few significant differences between the high- and low-health groups' mean durations for occupations. The results of this study could contribute to the support and assistance of occupations of older adults in society.

- Background: When and how people were able to engage in everyday occupations changed suddenly with the coronavirus pandemic. Defined as a risk group due to their age, people 70 years and older in Sweden experienced confinement, as did older adults globally. Aim: To explore how doing, being, becoming, and belonging as dimensions of occupation were manifested in the lives of Swedish people 70 years or older, 100 days into the coronavirus pandemic. Method: Data were elicited through semi-structured interviews with 17 participants (11 women, 6 six men, mean age 76 years), living in ordinary housing in Sweden. Interviews were conducted in June 2020 as part of a larger longitudinal research project. A directed content analysis approach was used to analyse the data based on the occupational dimensions of doing, being, becoming, and belonging. Results: After 100 days of confinement, daily occupations had been changed, and habits and routines disrupted. However, the need to engage in occupations was strong. Participants expressed how they adapted their occupations to the restrictions, but also how their doing affected their well-being, further development, and opportunities for social interactions. Conclusion: The participants, who were older people without any specific diagnosis, reflected upon their daily occupations during an unrehearsed natural experiment when, more than anything else, the social environmental circumstances changed. The analysis elucidates how doing, being, becoming, and belonging is embedded in people’s lives. The study can serve as a foundation to further research on understanding people’s individual needs as occupational beings.
