  • Evolving Wireless Communications
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1556-6072 .- 1556-6080. ; 8:1, s. 24-30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The wireless-access networks of today will have to evolve in several ways in order to address the challenges and expectations of the future. New technology components will be introduced as part of the evolution of current wireless-access technologies, such as high-speed packet access (HSPA) and long-term evolution (LTE). However, additional components may also constitute future new wireless-access technologies, which may complement the evolved technologies. Examples of such new technology components are new ways of accessing spectrum and substantially higher frequency ranges, the introduction of massive antenna configurations, direct device-to-device communication, and ultradense deployments.

  • Fifth-Generation Technologies for the Connected Car Capable Systems for Vehicle-to-Anything Communications
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - 1556-6080 .- 1556-6072. ; 13:3, s. 28-38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two strong technology trends, one in the mobile communications industry and the other in the automotive industry, are becoming interwoven and will jointly provide new capabilities and functionality for upcoming intelligent transport systems (ITSs) and future driving. The automotive industry is on a path where vehicles are continuously becoming more aware of their environment due to the addition of various types of integrated sensors. At the same time, the amount of automation in vehicles increases, which, with some intermediate steps, will eventually culminate in fully automated driving without human intervention. Along this path, the amount of interactions rises, both in-between vehicles and between vehicles and other road users, and with an increasingly intelligent road infrastructure. As a consequence, the significance and reliance on capable communication systems for vehicleto-anything (V2X) communication is becoming a key asset that will enhance the performance of automated driving and increase further road traffic safety with combination of sensor-based technologies [1].

  • Challenges in future short range wireless systems
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - 1556-6072 .- 1556-6080. ; 1:2, s. 24-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As RF and baseband engineers strive to satisfy the demand for ever higher data rates in next generation wireless systems, they are faced with three challenging requirements: both spectral efficiency and bandwidth have to be increased, and the cost per bit has to be kept low. A combination of MIMO, OFDM and TDD is a promising candidate technology to meet these objectives. However, realizing the potential gains of this approach requires tackling a number of new challenges: real MIMO channels, real- "Dirty" - RF and tough real-time constraints.

  • Channel Coding in 5G New Radio : A Tutorial Overview and Performance Comparison with 4G LTE
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE. - 1556-6072 .- 1556-6080. ; 13:4, s. 60-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fifth-generation (5G) new radio (NR) holds promise in fulfilling new communication requirements that enable ubiquitous, low-latency, high-speed, and high-reliability connections among mobile devices. Compared to fourth-generation (4G) long-Term evolution (LTE), new error-correcting codes have been introduced in 5G NR for both data and control channels. In this article, the specific low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and polar codes adopted by the 5G NR standard are described. The purpose of each key component in these codes and the associated operations are explained. Performance and implementation advantages of these new codes are compared with those of 4G LTE.

  • Leveraging Ris-Enabled Smart Signal Propagation for Solving Infeasible Localization Problems
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - 1556-6080 .- 1556-6072. ; 18:2, s. 20-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) have tremendous potential for both communication and localization. While communication benefits are now well understood, the breakthrough nature of the technology may well lie in its capability to provide and support localization capabilities. We present an overview of RIS-enabled localization scenarios, considering various numbers of RISs, single- or multi-antenna base stations, narrowband or wideband transmissions, and near- and far-field operations. Based on this overview, we also highlight key research directions and open challenges specific to RIS-enabled localization and sensing.

  • The Key to Intelligent Transportation : Identity and Credential Management in Vehicular Communication Systems
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. - : IEEE. - 1556-6072 .- 1556-6080. ; 10:4, s. 63-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vehicular Communication (VC) systems will greatly enhance intelligent transportation systems. But their security and the protection of their users’ privacy are a prerequisite for deployment. Efforts in industry and academia brought forth a multitude of diverse proposals. These have now converged to a common view, notably on the design of a security infrastructure, a Vehicular Public Key Infrastructure (VPKI) that shall enable secure conditionally anonymous VC. Standardization efforts and industry readiness to adopt this approach hint to its maturity. However, there are several open questions remaining, and it is paramount to have conclusive answers before deployment. In this article, we distill and critically survey the state of the art for identity and credential management in VC systems, and we sketch a roadmap for addressing a set of critical remaining security and privacy challenges.
