  • But Is It Interpretivism?
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Studia Philosophica Estonica. - 1406-0000 .- 1736-5899. ; 10:2, s. 8-17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this critical notice I raise a couple of questions concerning Mölder's ambitious metaphysics, aimed at underpinning his Ascription Theory. I argue that some of the points he takes to depend on this metaphysics are in fact independent of it. I further question whether the relation between the mental and the physical is quite so unlike relations between special science entities and physics as Mölder suggests. Finally I relate Mölder's Ascription Theory in very compressed form and suggest that although its loosening of the strictures on what evidence an ascriber of mental attitudes may avail herself of, it is not clear that the theory can really do without rationality considerations of the sort emphasised by Davidson and Dennett – at least if it is to count as a species of interpretivism.

  • The philosophical roots of the "One Medicine" movement : an analysis of some relevant ideas by Rudolf Virchow and Calvin Schwabe with their modern implications
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Studia Philosophica Estonica. - : University of Tartu. - 2228-110X .- 1736-5899 .- 1406-0000. ; 6:2, s. 97-109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the last decade there has been increasing interest in combining veterinary and human medicine, mainly in the areas of vaccination and the eradication of zoonotic and vector-borne diseases. Although the roots of this “One Health-One Medicine” approach can be found in ancient Egypt and Greece, the roots of the philosophy of “one medicine” have not been so thoroughly discussed. In this paper I will analyse some ideas that could unite veterinary and human medicine, from Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902) and Calvin W. Schwabe (1927-2006). Both are recognized as important theoretical founders of the philosophy of one medicine. I will also further develop these thoughts to meet some of the discussions taking place today.

  • Ideal Language Philosophy and Experiments on Intuitions
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Studia Philosophica Estonica. - : University of Tartu. - 1406-0000 .- 1736-5899 .- 2228-110X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Proponents of linguistic philosophy hold that all non-empirical philosophical problems can be solved by either analyzing ordinary language or developing an ideal one. I review the debates on linguistic philosophy and between ordinary and ideal language philosophy. Using arguments from these debates, I argue that the results of experimental philosophy on intuitions support linguistic philosophy. Within linguistic philosophy, these experimental results support and complement ideal language philosophy. I argue further that some of the critiques of experimental philosophy are in fact defenses of ideal language philosophy. Finally, I show how much of the current debate about experimental philosophy is anticipated in the debates about and within linguistic philosophy. Specifically, arguments by ideal language philosophers support experimental philosophy.
