  • Knowledge integration in a multinational setting : a study of a transnational business project
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - : Inderscience. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 3:3-4, s. 295-312
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this paper is to study how communication enables knowledge integration within transnational projects. Using longitudinal case study data to explore the theoretical arguments, interesting findings emerge. The main finding is that knowledge integration within the transnational project was hampered by ignorance – among project managers and members – of the impact and link between the use of different communication tools, subsequent communication process and knowledge integration. Other findings relate to how institutionalised behaviour persist change and subsequently partly explained why the communication process and thereto related communication tools were not adjusted to new circumstances and conditions. Finally, communication is an inherent part of knowledge integration within a transnational project and there is a need for communication to be sensitive to the complexity of the knowledge being integrated.

  • Innovation capabilities in tourism and food production SMEs in the Baltic Sea Region
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - Olney : InderScience Publishers. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 4:4, s. 336-358
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Drawing on the resource-based view, this paper addresses two fundamental questions: what innovation capabilities are most important for the creation of innovations in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and what are the relations between different innovation capabilities? We propose a model for the analysis of innovation capabilities in small and medium enterprises. In the model, we distinguish between capacities, such as access to financial, physical, technological and human resources, and competencies, such as knowledge and skills, market and entrepreneurial orientation. The findings are based on surveys from 277 tourism and food production SMEs from five Baltic Sea Region countries.

  • Managing Supplier Relations with the Balanced Scorecard
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 2:1, s. 147-161
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    •   As a consequence of increased outsourcing, companies become more and more virtual organisations and dependent upon external sources to reach their strategic objectives. Here, lacking supplier performance or commitment can result in failure of the outsourcing programme that significantly risks the financial results of the outsourcing company. Consequently, when outsourcing it is important to assure that the supplier performs as expected. This study uses a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) perspective for investigating performance measurements in outsourcing. The results illustrate the importance of a process perspective when outsourcing (securing volume, high quality at the right time). Formulating a BSC for a supplier, an outsourcing company could better control/steer the supplier on an output/performance level.

  • Service productivity gains through information and communication technology applications : A service marketing approach
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 2:1, s. 96-114
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on examples from Information and Communication Technology- (ICT-) based improvements in service productivity in the service organisations of three manufacturing firms, this paper argues for a service-centred approach towards productivity. When improving the productivity of industrial services, one of the three profitability-generating strategies, cost-efficiency, revenue effectiveness and capacity utilisation – or a combination – can be used. Increased standardisation and automation is a consequence of technological development, making capacity less a constraint in services and even if ICT applications often primarily improve cost efficiency, the elements improved vary depending on the solution implemented. Thus, ICT can enhance existing service processes and enable new service offerings to increase overall profitability. A productivity model for ICT-based services is presented and it is suggested that central coordination is often required in order to develop ICT-based services.

  • A reassessment of the QFD Product Development Methodology from the Perspective of Knowledge Creation and Utilization
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - : InderScience Publishers. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 8:3/4, s. 232-258
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quality function deployment (QFD) methodology has been in use for over 40 years and is still going strong as an important methodology for product innovation, and it is consequently of interest to account for what outcomes a company can expect. Departing from the construct of potential and realised absorptive capacity, the framework included the concepts of organisational learning, transactional memory systems and tacit and explicit knowledge transformation. The conclusion is that the QFD methodology is an important instrument for “knowledge creation and utilisation” in product innovation. The scientific evidence indicates that this often unrecognised capability can be a ‘hidden gem’ in methodology use. The matrix named the “House of Quality” emerged in an era when the QFD methodology foremost was regarded as a quality tool, but in the light of the findings, one could suggest that this matrix today could more properly be renamed as the “House of Knowledge”.

  • E-procurement of telecom services for the public sector
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies. - : Interscience Communications. - 1743-8268 .- 1743-8276. ; 2:1, s. 7-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • E-procurement has hitherto mostly been used as a tool to make the procurement process more efficient. However, it could also be used in more explorative ways than just for digitalisation of the existing procurement process. E-procurement has a big potential when used in more innovative ways. This paper explores the conditions and possibilities in order to apply the tool of e-procurement of telecom services for the public sector. Almost every economic activity and many a social contact include the use of telecommunications. The public sector is especially depending on well functioning telecom, as telecom is a base for many services provided by the authorities. To use electronic tools for procurement of telecom could be of great help. To do so, it is of great value to have a structured, modular and scalable model with standardised interfaces and defined functions on individual and organisational levels.
