    • We prove a subelliptic estimate for systems of complex vector fields under some assumptions that generalize the essential pseudoconcavity for CR manifolds, that was first introduced by two of the authors; and the Hormander's bracket condition for real vector fields. Applications are given to prove the hypoellipticity of first order systems and second order partial differential operators. Finally we describe a class of compact homogeneous CR manifolds for which the distribution of (0,1) vector fields satisfies a subelliptic estimate.

    • The linear orbit of a plane curve of degree d is its orbit in Pd(d+3)/2 under the natural action of PGL(3). In this paper we compute the degree of the closure of the linear orbits of most curves with positive dimensional stabilizers. Our tool is a nonsingular variety dominating the orbit closure, which we construct by a blow-up sequence mirroring the sequence yielding an embedded resolution of the curve. The results given here will serve as an ingredient in the computation of the analogous information for arbitrary plane curves. Linear orbits of smooth plane curves were studied by the authors in J. of Alg. Geom., 2 (1993), 155-184.

    • We prove that the mass endomorphism associated to the Dirac operator on a Riemannian manifold is non-zero for generic Riemannian metrics. The proof involves a study of the mass endomorphism under surgery, its behavior near metrics with harmonic spinors, and analytic perturbation arguments.

    • We introduce a calculus for the class $ASM(X)$ of direct images of semi-meromorphic currents on a reduded analytic space $X$, that extends the classical calculus due to Coleff, Herrera and Passare. Our main result is that each element in this class acts as a kind of multiplication on the sheaf $\mathcal{PM}_X$ of pseudomeromorphic currents on $X$. We also prove that $ASM(X)$ as well as $\mathcal{PM}_X$ and certain subsheaves are closed under the action of holomorphic differential operators and interior multiplication by holomorphic vector fields.

    • Let ? be a coherent ideal sheaf on a complex manifold X with zero set Z, and let G be a plurisubharmonic function such that G=log|f|+?(1) locally at Z, where f is a tuple of holomorphic functions that defines ?. We give a meaning to the Monge-Ampère products (dd c G) k for k=0,1,2,..., and prove that the Lelong numbers of the currents M k ? :=1 Z (dd c G) k at x coincide with the so-called Segre numbers of J at x, introduced independently by Tworzewski, Gaffney-Gassler, and Achilles-Manaresi. More generally, we show that M k ? satisfy a certain generalization of the classical King formula.

    • Let Z be a germ of a reduced analytic space of pure dimension. We provide an analytic proof of the uniform Briancon-Skoda theorem for the local ring Oz; a result which was previously proved by Huneke by algebraic methods. For ideals with few generators we also get much sharper results.

    • In this paper we generalize Wiener's characterization of continuous measures to compact homogenous manifolds. In particular, we give necessary and sufficient conditions on probability measures on compact semisimple Lie groups and nilmanifolds to be continuous. The methods use only simple properties of heat kernels.
