  • Effects of attention and levels of processing on explicit and implicit memory function with interesting and uninteresting tasks in university students

    • This study aims to investigate the effect of attention and levels of processing on memory function and recalling words in two situations when students are interested in the subject and when they are not. This is an experimental study of 160 students conducted individually using a computer software. Results reveal focused attention, interest in the subject and deep processing caused the explicit memory to be at its highest level of functionality. On the contrary, shallow processing, divided attention and lack of interest in the subject plunged memory function into its lowest levels. Variables have different effects on attention, explicit and implicit memory. That is, interesting tasks with focused attention and deep processing have the highest effect on explicit memory in order. Also, interesting tasks, focused attention, respectively affect implicit memory. But, level of processing does not affect implicit memory significantly.

    • This study was conducted to develop an understanding of Iranian customer's attitude and adoption of Internet banking services. Through using data from a questionnaire survey; demographic, attitudinal and behavioral characteristics of Internet banking users and non-users of Mellat bank customers from governmental sector are examined. The results revealed significant differences between demographic profiles and attitudes of users and non-users groups. The majority of the customers are very comfortable and willing to use Internet banking services. Branch counter was the most frequently adopted channel. The security concerns, lack of technological knowledge and awareness stand out as being obstacles to the adoption of Internet Banking (IB) services. The present study provides a set of factors that are perceived to have impact on IB adoption, baseline data for further research and an updated account of the Internet banking behaviors of Iranian customers.

    • The goal of this study is to develop and enhance an understanding of Iranian customers' adoption of Internet banking services. Enhancement of Internet banking service adoption is an important strategy in today's increasingly competitive banking industry. Bank management must identify and improve upon factors that can limit customer adoption. Through a questionnaire, demographic, attitudinal and behavioral characteristics of Internet banking service customers of Saman and Mellat banks from private and governmental sectors are captured. The results illustrate that expectations about service quality are high. The majority of the customers are very willing to use Internet banking services. The security concerns and lack of adequate technological knowledge stand out as being two main obstacles to the adoption of Internet banking. There was also evidence that customers' age groups and level of education more contributed to explain the respondent's propensity to use Internet banking services. Saman bank was perceived as having a significantly better service portfolio, specifically in regard to making customers aware of its services and offering its attractive incentives in comparison to Mellat bank. The service quality dimensions were found to better meet the overall expectation of customers who patronized Saman bank. Since the majority of the Iranian banks are under the governmental authority; thus, privatization could be useful in enrichment of the Iranian banks' performance.

    • Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) as an ideal architecture to support today’s business challenges such as agility and flexibility acts like a bridge between IT and business domains. There are intensified SOA applications at large enterprises. However, small and medium enterprises cannot obtain SOA benefits due to the lack of compatible solutions of SOA implementation challenges. Service identification is the first step in service modeling that extracts services as building blocks of SOA. Determining suitable inputs for SME service identification based on their conditions is a key factor for developing related identification method. This paper proposes SME based criteria to evaluate current inputs of service identification. To assess the inputs that are collected from variety of sources a mapping process between enterprise goals and collected inputs is presented.

    • This study focuses the analysis of current practices of household waste disposal, problems faced by the residents during waste disposal and their views for improvement of the waste management system. However, it has been found that traditional concepts and technologies usually adopted in waste collection is becoming insufficient and ineffective causing more than half of the generated wastes (44%) remain uncollected and disposed of locally, which results in adverse impacts like water pollution, drainage congestion and finally, the degradation of the overall urban environment.
