  • Ritorno alla Physis
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Etica e Politica / Ethics and Politics. - 1825-5167. ; 20:3, s. 487-496
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • While I am quite in agreement with the critics to transhumanism elaborated by Allegra in the book Visioni transumane. Tecnica, salvezza, ideologia, the alternative to transhumanist perspective that he argues for in this book is not completely clear to me, unless it is just the revival of a metaphysical-anthropological framework grounded on a "strong" idea of human nature. Against such perspective I argue for the necessity to keep the difference between posthumanism and transhumanism and to go back to the original meaning of physis.

  • "The Interdependence of Human Rights, Peace and Law: Some reflections on Relativism and Human Rights, A Theory of Pluralist Universalism by Claudio Corradetti"
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Etica & Politica / Ethics & Politics. - 1825-5167. ; XXIV:3, s. 427-438
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper I discuss Claudio Corradetti’s recent fascinating book on Relativism and Human Rights, A Theory of Pluralist Universalism (Springer 2022, 2nd ed.) by focusing on the global reach of human rights and its implications for law. The paper discusses, inter alia, what relativism conceivably means in the context of EU and international human rights. Moreover, the paper examines human rights and justice in the context of universality. The paper concludes by briefly looking at peace and war theory and argue for its salience for understanding the framework of global human rights protection.

  • Thinking Antagonism (By Way Of Appropriation)
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Etica e Politica / Ethics and Politics. - : EDIZIONI UNIVERSITA TRIESTE-EUT. - 1825-5167. ; 22:3, s. 555-580
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article critically explores Oliver Marchart's recent and notable book, Thinking Antagonism by way of the ideas of 'the proper' and appropriation. After presenting a broad overview of the post-Marxism of Laclau and Mouffe, and the specific ways Marchart further develops their arguments, the paper goes onto explore in what ways the thinking of antagonism, as Marchart discusses it, implies a rethinking of the political significance of appropriation and 'the proper', two terms that are not without ontological implications for post-Marxist and post-foundational political thought. In order to demonstrate this, the article seeks to show three things: (i) that the novelty of Marchart's thinking, as set out in Thinking Antagonism, is already engaged in a series of interpretive-appropriative acts, and it is as the outcome of these appropriations that Marchart's thinking on antagonism, alongside the traditions within which his thinking operates, and the idea of antagonism itself, show themselves in their proper light; (ii) that, while remaining unthematised, 'appropriation' nonetheless operates in significant ways in the process of Marchart elucidating central features of 'being-in-the-political' (the politics of naming serves as a test-case for this) and (iii) ontologically, Marchart opens up the possibility for thinking 'generalised appropriation' on the basis of de-propriation (or, as Marchart himself puts it, 'disowning), though this is never explicated by Marchart. The article presented here thus invites a discussion surrounding the ontological synergy between antagonism and appropriation.

  • Thinking about configurations : Max Weber and modern social science
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Etica e Politica / Ethics and Politics. - : Dipartimento di Filosofia, Università di Trieste. - 1825-5167. ; 7:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article addresses Max Weber’s relevance for modern social science. The first part is a quantitative assessment of Weber’s fate in mainstream sociology; the second part presents an argument that Weber’s work contains elements of combinatorial thinking which makes it suitable for analysis in terms of the methodological apparatus developed by Charles Ragin. On the one hand, it is shown that Ragin’s notation and concepts are useful in bringing out some important features in Weber’s methodology and substantive writings. On the other hand, it is suggested that Weber’s use of configurations extend into areas that have received little attention in mainstream sociology.

  • Feminism and Populism : Strange Bedfellows or a Perfect Match?
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Etica e Politica / Ethics and Politics. - : Universita degli Studi di Trieste. - 1825-5167. ; 25:2, s. 269-283
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This essay discusses Paula Biglieri and Luciana Cahadia's intervention concerning the relation-ship between populism and feminism, agreeing with the authors that the articulation of progres-sive populism and anti-essentialist feminism is necessary. The most pressing related issues, it argues, are i) the book's seeming understanding of feminism as necessarily being a 'smaller', perhaps even more particularistic, movement than populism; ii) its strong emphasis on the onto-logical necessity of one leader; a question which the essay argues is an ontic/empirical one, as well as one which might be one of the most serious obstacles for a successful articulation of the populism and feminism, and; iii) that the book's proposal of a 'ruptural institutionalism' offers a promising route for further political and theoretical investigation, which might help feminism to steer an alternative route between current hegemonic (neoliberal) feminist articulations on the one hand, and neoconservative opposition to 'gender' on the other.
