  • Big Data Analytics : A Text Mining-Based Literature Analysis
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: NOKOBIT - Norsk konferanse for organisasjoners bruk av informasjonsteknologi. - 1892-0748 .- 1894-7719. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This literature review paper summarizes the state-of-the-art research on big data analytics. Due to massive amount of data exchanged everyday and the increased need for better data-based decision, businesses nowadays are looking for ways to efficiently manage, and optimize these huge datasets. Moreover, because of globalization, partnerships, value networks, emergence of social networks, and the huge information flow across and within enterprises, more and more businesses are interested in utilizing big data analytics. The main focus of this paper is to elucidate knowledge on the characteristics of big data analytics literature as well as explore the areas that lack sufficient research within the big data analytics domain, suggest future research avenues, as well as, present the current research findings that could aid practitioners, researchers, and vendors when embarking on big data analytics projects. Towards that end, we have reviewed 24 publications between 2010 and 2014. Results of text mining the papers revealed that they belong to three clusters with both common as well as distinct characteristics. The reviewed papers were clustered into three main themes, 1) technical algorithsms; 2) processing, cloud computing, opportunities & challenges; and 3) performance, prediction, and distributed systems.

  • Perception of SaaS Adaption in Norwegian Enterprises : focus on ERP
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: NOKOBIT - Norsk konferanse for organisasjoners bruk av informasjonsteknologi. - 1892-0748 .- 1894-7719. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the vast amount of research that has been conducted on enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and Cloud/ software-as-a-service (SaaS) in isolation, few studies have explored the topic of Cloud/SaaS ERP – particularly attitudes held towards these systems. Based on an assessment of literature and the Theory of Planned Behavior, a questionnaire focusing on benefits and disadvantages of SaaS-based ERP systems was sent to IT officers in 839 Norwegian companies. Responses from 180 companies helped to shed light on attitudes towards SaaS ERP adoptions. To a certain extent, the results come inline with existing research. There were, however, a couple of noteworthy exceptions. One such was the rather surprising lack of data security concerns amongst the respondents, who ranked it to be the least of their concerns. Another surprise was that despite strong indications found in literature, the promise of lowered Total Cost of Ownership was not perceived to be ensnaring benefit. Instead, respondents viewed vendor dependency to be the least favorable trait of such systems, and accessibility to be the significantly most advantageous. A regression analysis of the results was performed to identify the level of which the various benefits and advantages affected respondents’ attitudes.

  • Simulation and serious games for firefighter training : challenges for effective use
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: NOKOBIT - Norsk konferanse for organisasjoners bruk av informasjonsteknologi. - 1892-0748 .- 1894-7719. ; 24:1, s. 1-12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the main criteria of effectively managing emergency and crisis situations is good preparedness. Simulation and serious games (SSG) are often advocated as promising technologies supporting training and increasing the skills necessary to deal with new, complex and often unexpected situations. This paper is based on an investigation of why a seemingly appropriate SSG technology was not used long after procurement. We identified potential obstacles and challenges of SSG implementation in organizations responsible for societal safety. The focus is on fire fighter training and is based on 33 interviews with major stakeholders from seven countries, from organizations with successful as well as unsuccessful experiences of SSG use. By contrasting the different incentives and views regarding the technology use, this paper contributes to a better understanding of challenges related to SSG implementation and use. The results confirm the possible benefits of SSGs, but also highlight an urgent need for new approaches to integrate these new technologies into organizational practices. Only by formulating local, organizational strategies with the SSG use can the technology be implemented successfully

  • Getting More Explicit on Genres of Disclosure : Towards Better Understanding of Privacy in Digital Age (Research in Progress)
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: NOKOBIT - Norsk konferanse for organisasjoners bruk av informasjonsteknologi. - 1892-0748 .- 1894-7719. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Disclosure is all about communication and Genres are about analyzing communicative action. “Genres of Disclosure” as repetitive patterns of disclosing has given less attention. Drawing on Palen and Dourish’s work, this paper expand its defined scope from a social approach into a more socio-technical approach. Evolutionized by the affordances of a new digital medium, new genres have emerged. We called these new subgenres, secondary genres of disclosure. We provide a taxonomy for these type of genres and some real examples to illuminate the concept. Implications of use for designing privacy and venues for further research are discussed. It is concluded that “Genres of Disclosure” can serve as a common language between users, system providers and legislators to preserve privacy within any system that has consequences for personal privacy.
