  • The role of Grassroot Leaders in building Networks and organizing Learning Groups
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1904-0016 .- 1901-2276. ; 62:1, s. 4-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years questions concerning whether and how networks between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can serve as platforms for inter-organizational collective learning have attracted interest. In the present paper it is argued that two prerequisites for this are recognition of common needs and goals that contribute to the construction of a collective identity and the presence of promoters, or grassroot leaders, able to create and maintain trust and confidence between participants. It is also argued that if collective learning is to function properly networks need to become work groups. Further research aimed at integrating the findings of network analysis, SME and small-group research is seen as called for. The importance of those engaged in joint action projects possessing competence in building and maintaining networks and managing small-group dynamics is emphasized.

  • Quality of dyadic relationships in Swedish men and women living in long-term ralationships and in couples of family counselling : Introduction of a new self-report meassure, QDR36
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - Boston, Göttingen : Informa UK Limited. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 61:3, s. 23-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There has long been a need for a well-balanced, comprehensive and up-dated self-report measure of dyadic relationship quality. The aim was to test the new Quality of Dyadic Relationship, QDR, on 90 men and women living in long-term relationships and on 94 men and women constituting 47 couples visiting family counselling. In the first group A, the experienced entire quality of the relationship, QDR index, was found to be 22, with a possible range between 5 and 30, which means rather a good quality in the relationship. The dimension Dyadic Consensus showed the highest marks together with Dyadic Satisfaction, indicating that these men and women did not just stay together by force of habit. In group B, the QDR-index was 20 before and 22 after counselling. Dyadic Sexuality was found to be lowest in both group A and B. QDR seems to be an instrument with good validity and reliability also in these study groups, according to the factor structure and Cronbach’s alpha. The entire QDR36 is hereby introduced and presented ready for use in different kinds of relationships.

  • Interpretation of cognitive test scores in relation to Swedish and immigrant groups
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 63, s. 51-71
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Test scores are used in employment offices in Sweden when making decisions to grant vocational education to immigrant and native applicants. The interpretation and use of scores in the decision making process is investigated. Mean scores of ability dimensions were found to differ between Swedish and immigrant groups. It is shown that the psychologists working with the assessments and the employment officers who grant the courses make allowances for the cultural bias in the verbal (Gc) ability dimension but underestimate the problem solving (Gf) and speed (Gs) ability dimensions in assessing immigrants. However, assessments based on the visuo-spatial (Gv) ability dimension seem to be unaffected by immigrant group effect. The pattern of differential interpretations could result in inefficient test use and less than optimal test based decisions for immigrant groups.

  • Women, men, and all the other categories : Psychologies for theorizing human diversity
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : The Authors & Nordic Psychology. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 63:2, s. 88-114
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article looks at psychological theory and research that aims to capture and study human diversity in new ways. Human diversity, increasingly framed in terms of intersectionality – focusing the mutual interrelatedness of central social categorizations such as gender, ethnicity/race, social class and sexualit(ies) – has recently come more forcefully onto the research agenda for psychologists. The article argues that for psychological research to be able to usefully theorize and study diversity in everyday lives, it needs to find new ways to incorporate the impact on individual lives of both large and small sociocultural, and sometimes political, contexts into research. Gender studies within psychology, as well as cross-disciplinary gender studies, have developed bodies of theory and empirical research about many diversity issues that can give helpful contributions to such developments of psychological theory and research.

  • A Swedish sample of 45 adolescent males who have sexually offended: Background, individual characteristics, and offending behavior
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 63:4, s. 18-34
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study describes the background, individual characteristics, and offending behavior of 45 adolescent males who have sexually offended. This group was also compared to adolescents from the general population. The data sources were intake assessment information and questionnaires. Family problems and neglect were common. Having separated parents and growing up in large families or foster-homes discriminated the group from the general population of Swedish adolescent males. The group scored higher than norm data regarding anger, depression, and disruptive behavior. They showed a wish to present themselves in a positive way and they were less open concerning sexuality than a comparison group. There were overall few significant differences between the target group and the comparison groups. Future studies need to explore offender sub-groups; specifically how and why problematic backgrounds affect children differently.

  • Psychological treatment as an umbrella term for evidence-based psychotherapies?
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : DANSK PSYKOLOGISK FORLAG-DANISH PSYCHOLOGICAL PUBLISHERS. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 61:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this review paper is to comment on a suggestion proposed by David Barlow [Barlow, D. H. (2004). Psychological treatments. American Psychologist, 59, 869-878.], that evidence-based psychotherapies with a clear medical objective should go under the name of "psychological treatments". We begin by describing the definition of psychotherapy and the role of common factors. We then briefly present how different "schools of psychotherapy" are differentiated. In the literature it is clear that psychological treatments can be both more broad in terms of the ways of delivery (e. g., Internet-based treatment), but also more narrow than psychotherapies, as psychological treatments are now increasingly regarded as evidence-based medical treatments for specific medical conditions. Psychological treatments are also increasingly recommended in treatment guidelines. Some benefits from using the concept of psychological treatment instead of the equally important but less medically oriented term psychotherapy are presented. As the regular "brand names" of psychotherapy are increasingly integrating procedures from different schools of therapy, and that the objective of psychotherapy often is adjustment and growth, we agree with the suggestion by Barlow that endorsing the term "psychological treatment" could facilitate the further dissemination of evidence-based psychological treatment procedures.

  • Social Psychology of Justice : Origins, Central Issues, Recent Developments, and Future Directions
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 60:3, s. 209-234
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article provides an overview of some selected aspects of social psychological theory and research on justice in the allocation of social resources. We start with a brief outline of the origins of systematic inquiries of justice in social psychology. Six central issues in social justice theory and research are discerned and discussed (the definition, dimensionality, and criteria of justice, the salience of the justice motive, the importance of justice, the formation of justice judgments, the cognitive and behavioral reactions to injustice, and the cross-cultural generality of justice considerations). A selective overview of recent applications, developments, and areas of interest are also presented, and some avenues for future research are suggested.

  • The reliability and factorial validity of the Swedish version of the Recovery Experience Questionnaire
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 70:4, s. 324-333
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent research has indicated that recovery from work stress and effort might be crucial for health and well-being. Thus, a valid measurement of recovery becomes important. The main purpose of the present study was to empirically evaluate and seeking support for the hypothesized four-factor model of the Swedish version of Recovery Experience Questionnaire (REQ). The total sample (N = 680) was randomly split into two subsamples. The first subsample was used for finding the best-fitting model using an exploratory factor analysis and the second subsample was used to test the a priori model using confirmatory factor analysis. The results support the proposed four-factor structure of the scale for both males and females. Additionally, apart from high reliability estimates, this instrument proved to have good convergent and discriminant validity for all four factors. Implications for the use of the REQ in conjunction with recovery-focused interventions were discussed, as were limitations such as low response rate.

  • Atheism and how it is perceived: Manipulation of, bias against and ways to reduce the bias
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Psychology. - : ROUTLEDGE JOURNALS, TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD. - 1901-2276 .- 1904-0016. ; 68:3, s. 194-203
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, there has been an increased interest in the cognitive foundations of religion and experimental methods have been used to explain religious behaviours. However, in the world, there are a substantial number of non-believers (atheists), and this has been a largely unknown field for experimental and more basic research informed by cognitive science. This has now changed and in this review, I cover three domains of study. First, studies in which belief in God has been manipulated in the direction of showing less belief are reviewed. For example, it is shown that analytical thinking reduces religious belief. Second, recent studies on cognitive bias against atheists are covered showing that atheists are distrusted, elicit disgust and are viewed as immoral both explicitly and implicitly. Third, I review studies in which prejudice against atheists has been experimentally manipulated showing that it is possible to reduce bias against atheists. I conclude the paper arguing that the bias against atheists need to be investigated in the Scan-dinavian countries.
