  • Collaboration and Satisfaction About Care Decisions in Team questionnaire : Psychometric testing of the Norwegian version, and hospital healthcare personnel perceptions across hospital units
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - HOBOKEN, USA : John Wiley & Sons. - 2054-1058. ; 6:2, s. 642-650
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim To translate "The Collaboration and Satisfaction About Care Decisions in Team" questionnaire (CSACD-T) into Norwegian and test it for psychometric properties. The further aim was to describe and compare healthcare personnel's collaboration and satisfaction about team decision-making (TDM) across hospital units. Design A cross-sectional study. Methods The questionnaire was translated into Norwegian. A total of 247 healthcare personnel at two hospitals responded to the questionnaire. An explorative factor analysis was performed to test the factor structure of the questionnaire, while a Cronbach's alpha analysis was used to test for internal consistency. A one-way ANOVA analysis and a Kruskal-Wallis test were applied to test for differences between hospital units. Results The results demonstrate that the Norwegian version of the CSACD-T has promising psychometric properties regarding construct validity and internal consistency. The mean score of the CSACD-T was significantly higher in the maternity ward group than in the emergency room group.

  • Empowerment in the perioperative dialog
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2054-1058. ; 8:1, s. 96-103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To describe how the nurse anaesthetist empowers the patient in the perioperative dialogue. Design: A qualitative descriptive design with interviews with 12 nurse anaesthetist (NA). Method: A hermeneutic text interpretation with a foundation in Gibson's empowerment model. Result: The results highlight Gibson's nursing domain: Helper, Supporter, Counsellor, Educator, Resource Consultant, Resource Mobilizer, Facilitator, Enabler and Advocate. The overall understanding is revealed as a relationship can be built through closeness between the patient and the NA. The NA helps the patient master the situation by talking to and touching the patient. The patient is helped to find their own strengths and to cope with their fears. The patients decide over their own bodies. When the patients do not want to or cope with protecting themselves, the NA protects and represents the patient.

  • Resilience in children of parents with mental illness, alcohol or substance misuse—An integrative review
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - Hoboken : John Wiley & Sons. - 2054-1058. ; 11:6
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: The aim of this integrative review was to investigate how resilience has been researched and explore experiences of resilience, in children of parents with mental illness or alcohol or substance misuse. Design: An integrative review. Method: The search included three major electronic databases, PubMed, Scopus and PsycINFO with the aim of identifying peer-reviewed studies where the concept of resilience was explored as resilience, coping, adaptation or protective factors. Results: Out of 4016 studies, 14 were included after meeting predetermined criteria and methodological quality evaluation. The findings are presented in five categories: characteristics of the studies, operationalization and interpretation of resilience, individual resources, family resources and resources outside the family. Patient or public contribution: Resilience in children of parents with mental illness or substance misuse refers to coping strategies, protective factors and absence of symptoms or risk behaviour despite being exposed to risk. We suggest a three-level approach for mapping of resilience resources in the target group: the individual level, family level and outside of the family that includes both non-professionals and professionals. The use of disengagement or avoidance strategies implies poor resilience but may be necessary in absence of support, as acts of self-preservation during chaotic periods or harmful situations. © 2024 The Author(s). • Women’s coping strategies during the first three months of adjuvant endocrine therapy for breast cancer
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : Wiley. - 2054-1058. ; 7:2, s. 605-612
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract Aim: The aim was to explore stressful events, experienced problems and used coping strategies during the first three months of undergoing ET. Design: This study used a mixed method design. Methods: A consecutive sample of 39 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer were included at the start of their adjuvant endocrine therapy. A daily coping assessment was used to create daily reports about stressful events or experienced problems and coping strategies. Results: The most frequently reported physical problems were sleeping difficulties. Anxiety was the most reported emotional problem. Patients used both emotion-and problem-focused coping, and sleeping difficulties were coped by relaxing, and anxiety was coped by thinking about something else. Conclusions: Patients experienced a variety of stressful events or problems during the first three months of endocrine therapy. They also used several coping strategies to endure the treatment.

  • Collaboration and guidelines for the coordination of health care for frail older persons with intellectual disability : A national survey of nurses working in municipal care
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : Wiley. - 2054-1058. ; 8:3, s. 1369-1379
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: To describe and compare perceptions of collaboration between care providers on the part of three groups of Registered Nurses working in municipal care and having particular responsibility concerning the care of frail older people with intellectual disability (ID); and, furthermore, to investigate the presence of and compliance with guidelines for the coordination of care. Design: National survey study with cross-sectional design. Methods: Nurses (N = 110) with key positions concerning people with ID answered a national questionnaire about collaboration, guidelines and coordinated individual plans. Descriptive and comparative statistical analyses were applied. Results: The meetings on cooperation and coordination of interventions were attended most frequently by nurses, and least frequently by social workers. The nurses were overall satisfied with the collaboration but perceived shortcomings in the case of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. Only in about half of the meetings for making care plans participated the people with intellectual disability and next of kin.

  • The association between fear of COVID-19 and mental health : The mediating roles of burnout and job stress among emergency nursing staff
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2054-1058. ; 9:2, s. 1147-1154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: This current study examined the mediation roles of burnout and job stress in the association between fear of COVID-19 and mental health among emergency nurses.Design: Cross-sectional survey. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Methods: A total of 516 emergency nurses with a mean age of 41.18 (SD = 8.24), mostly females (76.16%) and married (78.9%) responded to measures on fear of COVID-19, burnout, job stress and mental health between 15 September and 7 November 2020.Results: There was a significantly direct effect between (a) fear of COVID-19 and mental health, (b) fear of COVID-19 and mediators (burnout and job stress) and (c) mediators (burnout and job stress) and mental health. Also, there was a significantly indirect effect between fear of COVID-19 and mental health through job stress, burnout or both. Conclusions: Fear of COVID-19 directly and indirectly influenced the mental health of emergency nurses. Therefore, hospital authorities should provide sufficient resources to allay the fears of nurses during this COVID-19 pandemic period.

  • Effects of person-centred care via telephone on self-efficacy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Subgroup analysis of a randomized controlled trial
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : Wiley. - 2054-1058. ; 8:2, s. 927-935
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2020 The Authors. Nursing Open published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Aim: To evaluate the effects of PCC in the form of structured telephone support on self-reported cardiac self-efficacy in patients with COPD. Methods: We enrolled 105 patients, aged ≥50years, admitted to hospital and diagnosed with COPD from January 2015 to November 2016. The patients received usual care or PCC via telephone added to usual care. The Swedish Cardiac Self-Efficacy Scale comprising three dimensions (control symptoms, control illness and maintain functioning) was used as outcome measure. Data was collected at baseline, and at 3- and 6-month follow-ups. Results: At both the 3- and 6-month follow-ups, the intervention group improved significantly more than the control group in the control illness dimension (p=.012 and p=.032, respectively). No differences were found in the other two dimensions. Conclusions: PCC in the form of structured telephone support increases patients’ confidence in managing their illness and may be a feasible strategy to support patients in their homes.

  • Nurses' actions in response to nursing assistants' observations of signs and symptoms of infections among nursing home residents
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Nursing Open. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 2054-1058. ; 2:3, s. 97-104
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AimsTo describe what nurses do during episodes of suspected infection in elderly nursing home residents and if these actions are linked to who is initiating an episode and whether the episode is considered an infection or not.DesignProspective descriptive study. Data were collected in 2008–2010.MethodsSummarized and categorized documentation by nursing assistants and nurses was used for summative content analysis.ResultsNurses' actions seem to be related to who initiated the episode and if the episodes are categorized as ‘non-infection’, ‘possible infection’ or ‘infection’. Actions could be ‘observation’, ‘screenings’, ‘engaged in waiting’, ‘follow-ups’, ‘nurse-prescribed actions’, ‘diagnosing’, ‘contacting the physician’, ‘carrying out an action prescribed by the physician’, ‘contacting an ambulance or arranging an emergency visit to the hospital’ and ‘prescribing screening’. As NAs often initiate episodes of suspected infection by observing changed conditions, it seems important to include the NA in the decision-making process as these observations could detect possible early signs and symptoms of infections.
