  • The first Marmorkrebs (Decapoda: Astacida: Cambaridae) in Scandinavia
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: BioInvasions Records. - : Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre Oy (REABIC). - 2242-1300. ; 2, s. 227-232
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Invasive crayfish have attracted much attention by scientists and policy makers in Europe, partly due to their ability to transmit diseases to native crayfish species. In December 2012, 13 specimens of a new crayfish species were found in the River Märstaån in central Sweden. Mitochondrial DNA analyses identified them as Marmorkrebs Procambarus fallax f. virginalis. It is not known if Marmorkrebs can establish reproducing populations in Sweden, and knowledge of how different stressors negatively affect the eventual reproduction of Marmorkrebs is lacking. Since the parthenogenetic Marmorkrebs has potential to become an invasive species in Sweden and Scandinavia, it may pose a serious threat to native crayfish, fish and fisheries. Swedish authorities have produced an action plan with a national strategy in order to establish a system that manages the import, movement and release of alien species and genotypes. The River Märstaån leads to Lake Mälaren, without barriers, which enhances the risk that the crayfish will also invade the lake. Due to the potential threat of further spread, it is imperative to make an action plan with a risk assessment targeted specifically towards the Marmorkrebs in River Märstaån.

  • First records of Conrad´s false mussel, Mytilopsis leucophaeata (Conrad, 1831) in the southern Bothnian Sea, Sweden, near a nuclear power plant
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: BioInvasions Records. - : Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre Oy (REABIC). - 2242-1300. ; 2:4, s. 303-309
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The invasive, biofouling, Conrad's false mussel Mytilopsis leucophaeata was first recorded in Sweden during spring 2011 in the cooling water system of the power plant of Forsmark in the southern Bothnian Sea. The cooling water discharge area offers a favourable environment for growth, survival, and reproduction of M. leucophaeata and may provide a stepping stone for further spread. We present three different studies in the area, revealing a rapid increase in mussels in the artificially heated area, with densities of the magnitude of thousands of individuals m-2, as well as mussels living in surrounding waters, indicating an on-going expansion in the region.

  • First report of Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in the Republic of Benin
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: BioInvasions Records. - : Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre Oy (REABIC). - 2242-1300. ; 7, s. 463-468
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a serious pest of tomato Solanum lycopersicum L. (Solanaceae) originating from South America. Due to previous outbreaks in neighbouring West African countries, surveillance was ongoing since 2014 in Benin. Tomato plants were regularly inspected and pheromone traps placed in tomato-producing localities in northern, southern and central Benin, including fields close to the border with Niger and Nigeria. In late 2017 and beginning of 2018 Gelechiidae moths were obtained from both the traps and the reared plant material. Morphological examination and molecular analysis of the gained specimens allowed to confirm the presence of the pest in the northern and central regions of Benin. We hence confirm the presence of T. absoluta in yet another West African country.

  • Characterization of mixed disomic and polysomic inheritance in the octoploid strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) using AFLP mapping
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Theoretical and Applied Genetics. - : SPRINGER-VERLAG. - 0040-5752 .- 1432-2242. ; 107:4, s. 619-628
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A two-way pseudo-testcross strategy, combined with Single Dose Restriction Fragment (SDRF) marker analysis, was used for genetic mapping in the octoploid cultivated strawberry Fragaria x ananassa (2n=8x=56). Based on a 113 full-sib progeny from a cross between the variety Capitola and the clone CF1116, we generated two parental maps using Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Ninety two percent of the markers (727 out of 789) showed ratios corresponding to simplex markers (the majority being SDRF markers), and 8% (62 out of 789) fitted a multiplex ratio. Linkage maps were first established using SDRF markers in coupling phase. The female map comprised 235 markers distributed among 43 co-segregation groups, giving a map size of 1,604 cM. On the male map, 280 markers were assigned to 43 co-segregation groups, yielding a map size of 1,496 cM. Once the co-segregation groups were established, their association was tested using repulsion-phase markers. In total, taking into account associations representing the same linkage groups, 30 linkage groups were detected on the female side and 28 on the male side. On the female map, 68.3% of the pairwise marker linkages were in coupling versus 31.7% in repulsion phase, and the corresponding figures on the male map were 72.2% and 27.8%, respectively. In addition, both groups linked only in the coupling phase and groups linked in the repulsion phase were characterized. The observations suggest that the meiotic behavior of the F. x ananassa genome is neither fully disomic nor fully polysomic, but rather mixed. The genome may not be as completely diploidized as previously assumed.
