  • Doxycycline at Low Concentrations Could Influence Your Experimental Results When Working With Prostate Cancer Cell Lines
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research. - : Biomedical Research Network. - 2574-1241. ; 28:2, s. 21515-21519
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Doxycycline is a tetracycline derivate commonly used in various inducible expression systems to study the function of different proteins. In this study, we show that 22Rv1 and PC3, two different, commonly used prostate cancer cell lines are very sensitive to this antibiotic and addition of the drug at inductive concentrations can affect cells in ways that can be misinterpreted as effects from the protein studied. Therefore, proper controls are very important in order to avoid conclusions drawn by artifacts caused by experimental conditions.

  • A brief review of the development of telerehabilitation and its application in patients of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Scientific & Technical Research. - 2574-1241. ; 48:2
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional spinal deformity and characterized by progressive development during growth, and eventually to a curvature of the spine greater than 10 degrees on the posteroanterior radiograph. AIS usually does not present symptoms in early age, which makes the diagnosis and treatment of these patients difficult. Thus, a follow-up observation of all suspicious AIS patients becomes very important to monitor the progression of spinal cord deformity. Telerehabilitation is a new type of rehabilitation, which links the professional physiotherapists and the patients through telecommunication and information technology. Telerehabilitation can be synchronous (through any device real-time connection between patients and therapists), asynchronous (computer-based intervention for remote monitoring by the physiotherapists and offline adjustments), or a combination of both. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused medical health care system chaos and affected seriously the ongoing disease management in many countries. Telerehabilitation can reduce the spreading risk of COVID-19, the cost of face-to-face rehabilitation service, the pressure on the staff, and the financial burden on the patients. In this review, we briefly describe the development of telerehabilitation, its current status and related technologies, and its application in clinical practice of AIS. In addition, we discussed the limitations of the current telerehabilitation and its future prospection. We believe that telerehabilitation could provide high quality rehabilitation service to the patients, thus becoming the mainstream of rehabilitation to the population of AIS.

  • Language and Culture are Two Potential Misunderstanding Sources in Cross-Cultural Clinical Encounters
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research (BJSTR). - 2574-1241. ; 23:2, s. 17202-17204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ome parts of the world, a large number of people replaced outside their own language and culture. This issue has led to increase interpreters mediate clinical encounters. In order to minimize clinical communication misunderstanding and improve patient safety, interpreter’s competence is essential. As clinical communication is the first stage of a healthcare and medical treatment for patients, satisfactory clinical encounters should be in focus. Misunderstanding in clinical communication may rooted in culture or insufficient language abilities, therefore

  • Facilitating Multiagency Collaboration Before Mass Gatherings - The Development of MAGRAT (Mass Gathering Risk Assessment Tool
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Journal of Scientific and Technical Research. - 2574-1241. ; 24:5, s. 18607-18616
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • the community hosting the event and create security and public health challenges. We aimed to explore whether a mutual planning and risk assessment tool used by emergency public agencies (EPA=emergency medical services, police officers, and firefighters), and organizers may improve planning and resource utilization before any mass gathering. Study Design and Methods: Action research based on interdisciplinary group exercises using a validated method “Three Level Collaboration” and real scenarios. Results: The use of the assessment tool increased the grade of collaboration between public agencies, and organizers and improved the preplanning phase of a mass gathering, particularly for healthcare providers. It was easy to use, feasible for different scenarios and highlighted the significant role and responsibility of organizers in pre-event risk assessment. Conclusion: The new assessment tool (MAGRAT= Mass Gathering Risk Assessment Tool) is an innovative tool for pre-event

  • Possible Existence of the Relict Mechanism of Cell Protection During Division
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research. - 2574-1241. ; 51:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibacterial properties of the stem cells and human- and plant- derived microvesicles are attracting increasing attention of the research community. Awareness of publications pointing out to the pronounced anti-bacterial properties of microvesicles isolated from the supernatants of different human origin prompted us to test corresponding properties of supernatant isolated using simplified protocol. Extensive research with more than 100 laboratory strains and hospital isolates of Gram-positive and Gram- negative bacteria point out to a pronounced anti-bacterial activity of the supernatant isolated from the cultures of actively dividing human cells. Simultaneous support of cell proliferation homeostasis and anti-bacterial activity led us to the hypotheses suggesting that there exists some archaic (possibly relict) mechanism with bivalent activity, which is provided by certain entities present in the supernatant. Taking into account that dried supernatant does not lose its potency for relatively long time, we would like to attract activity of wide research community to the opening application possibilities, and to the critical discussions over the formulated hypothesis.
