  • The sharing economy : Friend or foe?
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: ICIS 2015 Proceedings. - 9780996683111
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sharing economy is spreading rapidly worldwide in a number of industries and markets. The disruptive nature of this phenomenon has drawn mixed responses ranging from active conflict to adoption and assimilation. Yet, in spite of the growing attention to the sharing economy, we still do not know much about it. With the abundant enthusiasm about the benefits that the sharing economy can unleash and the weekly reminders about its dark side, further examination is required to determine the potential of the sharing economy while mitigating its undesirable side effects. The panel will join the ongoing debate about the sharing economy and contribute to the discourse with insights about how digital technologies are critical in shaping this turbulent ecosystem. Furthermore, we will define an agenda for future research on the sharing economy as it becomes part of the mainstream society as well as part of the IS research repertoire.

  • A historical study of an implementation methodology : A morphogenetic analysis
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 International Conference on Information Systems : Exploring the Information Frontier, ICIS 2015 - Exploring the Information Frontier, ICIS 2015. - 9780996683111
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To improve the results of Enterprise Systems (ES) implementation projects, new or revised implementation methodologies are introduced by ES vendors. Yet, the innovation and adoption of implementation methodologies (IM), which are computer-based and incorporate both project management and functional components, can be problematic. The purpose of this paper is to describe and explain the adoption of an implementation methodology. We recount for the adoption of an implementation methodology through the lens of a realist theory of social change. Our qualitative study provides insight into IM instantiation as manifestation of IM adoption configuration generated by the interplay between structure and agency over time, and suggests four implementation methodology adoption configurations: Fragmented, aggregated, integrated, and infrastructural. This study also offers a foundation for future work that may contribute to a more coherent view on the instantiation of IMs and adoption configurations.

  • The generative mechanisms of healthcare digitalization
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 International Conference on Information Systems : Exploring the Information Frontier, ICIS 2015 - Exploring the Information Frontier, ICIS 2015. - 9780996683111
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Digitalization is considered key to meeting the challenges that face the healthcare sector. However, the results of digitalization initiatives have often been disappointing and the literature has provided a fragmented understanding of the mixed results. While previous studies have generally focused on the advantages and the barriers of adopting healthcare IS, little attention has been paid to unearthing the causal powers that generate IT-enabled transformations. The purpose of this research is to identify the generative mechanisms of digitalization in the healthcare sector. Specifically, the research seeks to answer the following research questions: What are the generative mechanisms of digitalization in healthcare? How can they explain varying degrees of digital transformation? We draw on Archer's morphogenetic approach, which adopts a critical realist lens, to answer these questions. As such, one of the contributions of this paper is to demonstrate the usefulness of a Critical Realist ontology for developing insights into digitalization.
