  • Perspectives on management and information technology after digital transformation
  • 2021. - 1
  • Ingår i: Management and Information Technology after Digital Transformation. - London, UK : Routledge. - 9781000451610 - 9780367612764 - 9781003111245 ; , s. 1-7
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this chapter, the editors introduce the background to the chapters and the contemporary context. Over the past few decades, over 60 authors of the book’s 23 chapters have witnessed the consolidation of global IT firms, increased reliance on cloud solutions and virtualization and increased sophistication of technologies adopted and used by organisations. This change can be described as the result of digital transformation. This introductory chapter provides an overview of the topics and industries that the chapters touch on. Learning from the experience and by example, as in these chapters, allows established ways of thinking and doing to be challenged. This is likely to be crucial for successful management and information technology after digital transformation.

  • Why space is not enough : Service innovation and service delivery in senior housing
  • 2022. - 1
  • Ingår i: Management and Information Technology after Digital Transformation. - Abingdon and New York : Routledge. - 9780367612764 - 9780367628789 - 9781003111245 ; , s. 72-80
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter discusses senior housing to support the well-being of older individuals through the provision of physical and social resources. The authors show how digital services contribute to these developments by increasing the resources available and the capacity of older people to integrate resources and take advantage of the value-creating opportunities offered by senior housing solutions. They point out that senior users play a crucial role as active co-creators of their own well-being and contributors to both service innovation and service delivery. As digital services become essential for how older people manage their daily lives, they need to be more integrated in the physical spaces where the actions and memories that shape the lives of seniors take place. Digital services have the potential to both create and deliver new services that will enhance these experiences, which makes their integration with the physical space an important and inseparable component of service innovation and delivery in the context of senior housing.

  • Transforming the management/profession divide : The use of the red–green matrix in Swedish schools
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Management and Information Technology after Digital Transformation. - London and New York : Routledge. - 9780367612764 - 9780367628789 - 9781003111245 ; , s. 228-237
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of digital tools has provided new and easier means for organisational collaboration and communication. These new technologies potentially can bridge across organisational boundaries, enabling new forms of coordination between functions with different interests. In schools, traditionally organisations characterised by a strong divide between managerial and professional interests, technologies could break down this division by bridging between these conflicting views. Based on a study of a technology introduced in three Swedish schools, which the authors refer to as the red–green (RG) matrix, they examine the potential for technology to transform the management–professional divide. The chapter shows that despite its managerial and professional aims, the RG matrix reinforced the boundaries rather than reducing those boundaries. It certainly transformed the professional–management boundary but in unintended ways.

  • Leveraging digital technologies in Enterprise Risk Management
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Management and Information Technology after Digital Transformation. - UK : Routledge. - 9780367612764 - 9781003111245 ; , s. 159-171
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a considerable gap between the research and actual practice related to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and digital technologies. This chapter proposes a model, for researchers and practitioners, which may provide a better understanding of how digital technologies can be leveraged to reduce the barriers to information and knowledge sharing in ERM work. Digital technologies can enhance the dimensions of ERM included in the model and can contribute to meeting specific information and knowledge sharing and knowledge integration needs in individual organisations. This can improve decision-making, create value and lead to competitive advantage. By leveraging digital technologies to enhance computation, interpretation and coordination of risk, ERM could play a valuable business-partnering role for future organisations.

  • The role of boundary-spanners in the post-digitalised multinational corporation
  • 2021. - 1
  • Ingår i: Management and Information Technology after Digital Transformation. - Abingdon : Routledge. - 9780367612764 - 9781003111245
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter, the authors examine multinational corporations in the context of overcoming external and internal boundaries posed by national culture or geography. These boundaries challenge management of globally dispersed organisations and their related knowledge integration processes. The need to integrate knowledge across different boundaries and interfaces remains essential for multinational corporations to exploit the local competencies in subsidiaries in host countries. Attempts to achieve knowledge integration across internal and external boundaries are often discussed in relation to boundary-spanners and digitalisation. However, our understanding of the interplay between boundary-spanning activities and the dynamics introduced by digitalisation, within the multinational corporation, is poorly understood. The authors address the boundary issue and the related solutions of boundary-spanning and digitalisation and suggest some directions for future research.
