  • Architecture and Circuit Design for Color X-Ray Pixal Array Detector Read-Out Electronics
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 24th Norchip Conference, 2006. - New York : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781424407729 ; , s. 271-276
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes an area- and power-efficient implementation of the read-out electronics for color X-ray pixel detectors for imaging. Introducing multiple levels of energy discrimination will increase the complexity of the read-out electronics in each pixel. The proposed architecture has full resolution for the intensity and reduced resolution for the energy spectrum (color), which leads to a good compromise of image quality and circuit complexity. We show that the increase in complexity, compared to single energy-range pixel, will lead to increase in circuit area of less than 20%.

  • Piece-wise modelling - bringing the essentials of MOSFET modelling to a new student generation
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 24th Norchip Conference, 2006; Linkoping; Sweden; 20 November 2006 through 21 November 2006. - 9781424407729 ; , s. 99-102
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A simple MOSFET model is presented in this paper. The model focuses on simple concepts that stresses dualities (or opposites) like ON or OFF, linear or saturated operation, strong inversion or subthreshold leakage, etc. The model treats velocity saturation as a first-order effect and leads naturally to industry standard BSIM models, but still retains a close resemblance to classical "square-law" models. Despite its simplicity the model shows a good fit to experimental data (in this case exemplified by Intel 60 nm trigate transistor data).

  • High Performance, Low Latency FPGA based Floating Point Adder and Multiplier Units in a Virtex 4
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: NORCHIP 2006: The Nordic Microelectronics Event. 2006. - 9781424407729 ; , s. 31-34
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since the invention of FPGAs, the increase in their size and performance has allowed designers to use FPGAs for more complex designs. FPGAs are generally good at bit manipulations and fixed point arithmetics but has a harder time coping with floating point arithmetics. In this paper we describe methods used to construct high performance floating point components in a Virtex-4. We have constructed a floating point adder/subtracter and multiplier which we then used to construct a complex radix-2 butterfly. Our adder/subtracter can operate at a frequency of 361 MHz in a Virtex-4SX35 (speed grade -12)

  • A layered approach to estimating power consumption
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 24th Norchip Conference, Proceedings. - : IEEE. - 9781424407729 ; , s. 93-98
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A layered approach to estimating power consumption at the highest level of abstraction is presented. This approach is sufficiently accurate and fast enough to be used as guide for exploring the algorithmic and architectural space. The layers span from use-case level down to gate level. Speed and accuracy come from our ability to relate parameterized transactions at architectural level to switching activity at gate level and to perform architecturally-aware application-level simulation for specific or sweeps of use-cases. That enables us to recreate accurately architectural-level transactions. Additionally, we use preliminary floorplan to factor physical design aspects to improve the accuracy of our estimates. We base our work on the industry standard SPIRIT for specifying IPs and Platforms. Early results of work are also presented.

  • A matlab/octave simulation workbench for multi-antenna software defined radio
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 24th Norchip Conference, Proceedings. - : IEEE. - 9781424407729 ; , s. 145-148
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The current paper describes a generic workbench for multiple antennas Software Defined Radio (SDR) system in Matlab or Octave. The workbench is functionally modularized and make use of parameter lists for reconfiguration. Currently, it supports both narrow band MIMO systems and OFDM-based wideband systems with single or multiple antennas. It could also be easily extended to accommodate other wireless or wireline standards, such as GSM, WCDMA, xDSL, DVB-x, Wimax, Bluetooth, etc.
