    • Reliability in Ricean multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channels is crucial for safety related vehicle-tovehicle (V2V) applications. Due to the time variability of vehicular communication channel, it is very significant to study the temporal evolution of channel characterization criteria. We present evaluation results of the temporal evolution of the spectral efficiency from channel sounder measurements of vehicle-to-vehicle MIMO radio channels in the 5.2 GHz band. Our results show that MIMO channels with higher spatial correlation lead to lower ergodic capacity and a reduced signalto- noise ratio-dependent critical data rate. The temporal evolution of the ergodic capacity and critical data rate shows that the channel with the strongest line of sight (LoS) component also has the highest capacity. We also present a detailed analysis of the environmental factors affecting the capacity pattern throughout the measurement run. Dynamic scatterers introduce capacity bursts instantaneously; the trend stays congruent with the theory.

    • An upper bound on the effective area and bandwidth product for linearly polarized array antennas is derived. The bound is based on the forward scattering sum rule that relates the antenna properties with the polarizability of the antenna structure. The results are illustrated for a dipole array and a capacitively loaded dipole array with numerical simulations.

    • The potential from a parallel disk capacitor can be obtained by solving the Love integral equation. Although an expansion of the kernel yields fast convergence of the capacitance, at not too small disk separations, other quantities like the surface charge exhibit a considerably slower convergence. We present an alternative integral equation formulation of the problem that leads to more rapid convergence when computing the surface charge on the disks. The derivation of the kernel is outlined as well as the numerical implementation using a suitable set of expansion functions. Numerical results for the capacitance and the surface charge are presented, for several orders of disk separations.
