    • In this paper we propose an enhanced IPACT with limited service for multi-thread DBA in long-reach EPON. We evaluate our scheme by simulations in single-thread and double-thread cases and show that the DBA performance in terms of average delay and jitter can be significantly improved by the proposed algorithm.

    • The far-field transmission spectrum of crescent-like metallic nanostructures on a glass substrate at normal incidence is studied numerically.     • The transmission of light through a thin Au film with periodic subwavelength double nanoholes at normal incidence is analyzed numerically and compared to other conventional hole shapes. The performance of such perforated metallic films as a potential refractive index sensor is discussed.

    • We propose and evaluate a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure applied to minimize the number of power equalizers (GRASP-PE) needed to limit the propagation of high-power jamming attacks in WDM networks. Simulation results show that GRASP-PE significantly reduces the required number of power equalizers when compared to a greedy approach.

    • We experimentally demonstrate silver nanowire based plasmonic devices at optical communication wavelength 1.55 μm. The plasmon propagation loss in a 300 nm diameter silver nanowire is measured to be 0.3 dB/μm. Two types of plasmonic functional devices based on the coupling between two silver nanowires, nano-couplers and nano-splitters, are realized.

    • A new way to provide protection in TDM PONs is proposed and evaluated. It is shown that very low investment is needed to provide protection. In this way the total cost can be reduced due to the diminution of the OPEX related to the failure management.

Then orthogonal labeling scheme using various orthogonal optical properties such as in optical codes, optical phases as well as multilevel modulation formats, were discussed for optical label switched networks.
