  • Interfacing of Silicon-on-insulator nanophotonic circuits to the real world
  • 2010
  • In: 2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON). - : IEEE Communications Society. - 9781424477999 - 9781424477975 ; , s. 5549268-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Silicon-on-insulator material structure allows for very high light confinement in the silicon core due to its high refractive index. The advantages of this technology include the possibility to miniaturize devices and integrate different functions on a single chip, reduction of optical loss and power consumption and potential perspectives for low cost mass production in CMOS technology line. Together with these advantages some new problems appear in comparison to weakly guided light in silica-on-silicon components, causing additional challenges for researchers to be solved. Besides much higher demands for fabrication accuracy, high refractive index contrast introduces additional optical input/output coupling problems as well as much higher polarization sensitivity of nanophotonic structures. Here we will propose some solutions for these problems and illustrate them with designed and fabricated components

  • Analysis of Non-Linear Impairments in 40 Gbaud PM DQPSK and D8PSK Transmission
  • 2010
  • In: ICTON 2010. - : IEEE Press. - 9781424477982 ; , s. 1 -4
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this paper, 40 Gbaud transmission of single polarization (SP) and Polarization-Multiplexed (PM), RZ-DQPSK and RZ-D8PSK signals is analyzed numerically. The impact of nonlinear crosstalk arising from the presence of neighbouring intensity-modulated channels is analyzed in terms of required OSNR for the BER of 10-3versus launch power.

  • General framework for techno-economic analysis of next generation access networks
  • 2010
  • In: 2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, ICTON 2010. - : IEEE. - 9781424477999 ; , s. 1-4
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A large variety of access network technologies and architectures that provide wide service portfolio to the customer are available for the network operators. Each of the potential access network architectures and technologies varies in complexity, network functionality, services supported and overall network costs. A detailed comparison of the economic viability of different access network scenarios is crucial for operators due to the high cost of this network segment. This paper identifies all essential elements of a general framework for the techno-economic analysis of different access network technologies and architectures, as well as describes some specific issues/problems related to the techno-economic evaluation of next generation (NG) access networks. The goal is to have at operator’s disposal a methodology allowing the techno-economic comparison of the proposed access network solutions and their introduction/rollout.

  • Virtual Topology Design in OBS Networks
  • 2010
  • In: [Host publication title missing]. - 9781424477999
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The problem of burst losses in OBS networks has an impact on the service quality perceived by end users. In order to guarantee certain level of Service Quality (QoS) in terms of burst losses, wavelength resources have to be dimensioned properly. In this paper, we address the problem of the Virtual Topology (VT) design that concerns the establishment of explicit routing paths and the allocation of wavelengths in network links to support connections with QoS guarantees in the OBS network. We consider the GMPLS control plane as an overlying technology which facilitates the establishment of VT on top of physical network topology.

  • Phase locking and carrier extraction schemes for phase sensitive amplification
  • 2010
  • In: 2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, ICTON 2010. - 9781424477975
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • We demonstrate two schemes which enable simultaneous phase locking, carrier extraction and frequency shifting for use in stand-alone phase sensitive amplifiers. The schemes provide phase locked pumps at appropriate frequency spacing for a number of non-degenerate PSA configurations. © 2010 IEEE.
