- In this paper we investigate the diversity measure ψ(R h) of MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) channels based on the eigenvalues of the full-correlation matrix of the channel matrix R h. We apply this definition to antennas and channels based on the antenna scattering matrix and the spherical vector wave (svw) expansion of the electromagnetic fields. We derive bounds for this diversity measure in an isotropic propagation channel. We further analyze the diversity measure of a spherical volume occupied by decoupled λ/2-dipole antennas by means of Monte Carlo simulations assuming different polarizations, e.g., vertically or horizontally polarizations, 2 orthogonal polarizations and 3 orthogonal polarizations.

- A transition from Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) via capacitive coupling in order to provide feeding to the so-called Ridge Gap Waveguide (RGW) has been investigated. The main objective of this work is to find a way to facilitate integration of active electronics with the gap waveguide structure and also to do measurements of the components made in gap waveguide technology working around 100 GHz. The transition design and simulation of S parameters for the designed topology is presented.

- Modeling of gap-waveguide structures with single and multiple transmission lines is performed using spectral domain Green's functions approach. The approach is extended using even/odd mode analysis in order to also estimate the crosstalk levels between neighboring transmission lines. The results of this analysis are compared with the results of a commercial electromagnetic solver and with the measured results.

- A simple analytical model for the link loss between two very low profile wireless body area network transceivers located at the same level on the human torso is presented. The model is based on the attenuation of the creeping waves on an elliptical approximation of the human torso. A good agreement between the model and the FDTD simulations on realistic heterogeneous phantoms of different age and body-size is obtained.

- Designs of three UWB antennas and their suitability to be used as a basis antenna element in the hyperthermia applicator for the treatment of tumors in head and neck region are considered. The antennas with reflection coefficient less than -10 dB at frequency range 350 MHz to 1 GHz are immersed in water bolus. The evaluation of the SAR distributions was carried out by comparing the different cross-sections of muscle equivalent phantom. Numerical simulations were performed in CST Microwave studio and verified experimentally via measurements of S-parameters and SAR distributions in phantoms.

- We present the design of a low loss homogenous radome to house a hat-fed reflector antenna for the Ku satellite communication band. The radome is made of polycarbonate and can easily be vacuum formed in series. Simulated and measured data show that the radome has a low reflection coefficient and low ohmic loss, as well as very little effect on the antenna radiation patterns over the required frequency band.

- The 60 GHz band is very promising for high data rate (>1 Gb/s) wireless systems operating at short ranges. However, due to the short wavelengths in this frequency band, the shadowing effects cuased by human bodies and furniture are severe and need to be modeled properly. In this paper, we present an experimental, measurement-based characterization of the reflection and shadowing effects in the 60 GHz band caused by human bodies and various phantoms, in order to find simple phantoms suitable for use in human shadowing measurements. It is shown that a waterfilled human phantom serves as a good choice for this purpose.

- The simulation tool introduced in [1] is extended further to include the emulation of non-uniform multipath environments. This extension creates a trend to generalize the definition of effective diversity gain to be applicable to non-uniform multipath environments too. We introduce the richness threshold as a further metric for diversity performance of multi-port antennas. By virtue of this novel parameter, we demonstrate that beam-forming, which is ineffective in a rich isotropic multipath environment, is beneficial in non-rich isotropic multipath environments.
