  • Compressive Sensing Aided Determination of WCDMA Constrained Capacity
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: IEEE International Conference on Communications. - 1550-3607. - 9781457720536 ; , s. 4072-4077

    • The continual challenge for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) communication networks is to provide increasingly higher data rates for more and more users for mobile broadband. Hence, WCDMA single-user and multiple-user capacity results are important references for practical WCDMA networks since they provide limits of performance to which practical systems strive to approach. Analysis and determination of the single and multiple-user WCDMA capacity for dispersive fading channels which include the effects of inter-symbol interference (ISI), inter-channel interference (ICI) and multi-user interference (MUI) (without over-simplifying assumptions to not restrict the applicability of the results) has been a difficult and computationally costly problem. In this paper, we study the WCDMA constrained capacity of a doubly-dispersive wide sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) fading channel, using an equivalent vector channel model of the system with inter-symbol, inter-channel and the multi-user interference due to multipath. To reduce the computational cost of determining the capacity numerically, due to interference, we propose a novel method based on compressive sensing (CS).

  • Analysis of adjustable and fixed DRX mechanism for power saving in LTE/LTE-Advanced
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 2012 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC). - : IEEE. - 9781457720512 - 9781457720529 - 9781457720536 ; , s. 1964-1969
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The 4G standard Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been developed for high-bandwidth mobile access for today's data-heavy applications, consequently, a better experience for the end user. To extend the user equipment battery lifetime, plus further support various services and large amount of data transmissions, the 3GPP standards for LTE/LTE-Advanced has adopted discontinuous reception (DRX). However, there is a need to optimize the DRX parameters, so as to maximize power saving without incurring network re-entry and packet delays. In this paper, we take an overview of the fixed frame DRX cycle and compare it against an adjustable DRX cycle of the LTE/LTE-Advanced power saving mechanism, by modelling the system with bursty packet data traffic using a semi-Markov process. Based on the analytical model, we will show the trade-off relationship between the power saving and wake-up delay performance.

  • libNetVirt : The network virtualization library
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 2012 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC). - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781457720536 ; , s. 5543-5547
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Network virtualization has been an important research topic for many years but still suffers from the lack of an abstraction level like the one present in virtualization of computing and storage. Our work in progress presented here proposes an architecture for such a network virtualization abstraction. It is deployed as a library, similar to libvirt in computer virtualization, with a unified interface towards the underlying network specific drivers. The architecture will allow management tools to be independent of the underlying technologies. In addition, it will enable programmatic and on-demand creation of virtual networks. A common set of calls is defined to instantiate different virtual networks, using a single node view to provide the user with a suitable abstraction of the network. We describe a prototype of our proposed architecture on top of an OpenFlow-enabled network. We demonstrate its feasibility for creating isolated virtual networks in a programmatic and on demand fashion.
