  • Intermodulation due to interaction of photovoltaic inverter and electric vehicle at supraharmonic range
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway. NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 685-690
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Advent of power electronic switching is introducing more and more non-linear loads in the low voltage grid. Besides harmonic current generation in the frequency range below 2 kHz, these non-linear loads are also responsible for current emission in the range of 2 kHz to 150 kHz, commonly known as supraharmonic emission. Supraharmonic currents mainly flow between nearby appliances and heavily influence the overall emission of neighboring devices. This paper presents an analysis of supraharmonic interaction between a photovoltaic inverter and an electric vehicle. It has been noticed that intermodulation distortion arises as a result of interaction between different switching frequencies used by the devices. Later, additional household equipment were added to photovoltaic and electric vehicle to observe their effect on intermodulation distortion. All the measurements were conducted in a controlled laboratory environment imitating a domestic customer.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 326-332
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents some methods to extract additional information from voltage dip recordings, beyond residual voltage and duration. Additionally it discusses some issues related to the massive amount of data obtained from modern measurements that, is referred to as Big Data. The paper proposes some Deep Learning based algorithms as good candidates to extract complex features from big data as a step towards additional information. The applications of the information include predicting individual equipment performance, fault type and location, protection operation, and overall load behavior. Individual equipment and overall load include production as well as consumption

  • Impact of Load Modeling on the Harmonic Impedance seen from the Transmission Network
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 283-288
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Traditionally when studying harmonics at transmis-sion system level the medium and low voltage grid is modeledwith either an equivalent short-circuit impedance or a fixed PQload (based on the powerflow) directly at the secondary side ofthe transmission transformer. However the recent replacement ofconventional loads with electronic loads as well as the extendeduse of power electronics in LV level will result in reductionof damping and increase of household capacitance which maychange the harmonic impedance seen from the upstream network(MV or HV) both in the dominant frequency and magnitude. In this paper a HV feeder is modeled in detail starting fromthe transmission transformer up to the household equipmentto investigate whether changes in the type of load affect theimpedance seen from the HV. The simulations are performedusing software package PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • Different Fault Types and Voltage Dips in relation to Shielding of Subtransmission Lines
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 518-523
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a method for considering the voltage-dip performance of the power system in the design of subtransmission lines. The shielding performance of the lines is expressed in terms of the number of faults for different number of phases involved in the fault. Relations between fault type and voltage dip at the terminals of sensitive equipment are used to determine the resulting number of equipment trips. The method is illustrated by applying it to three different tower designs used in the Swedish subtransmission networks. It is shown that the installation of shield wires significantly reduces the number of equipment trips, especially in combination with the installation of additional capacitance in adjustable-speed drives.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Computer Society. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 703-708
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes a set of definitions to simplify the discussion about the different contributions to the harmonic currents at the terminals of a device or an installation. Definitions are given, and explained, for 'primary harmonic emission', 'secondary harmonic emission', and 'harmonic interaction'

  • Interaction between Grid-Connected PV systems and LED Lamps : Directions for Further Research on Harmonics and Supraharmonics
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 193-197
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper discusses different approaches to investigate the interaction through harmonics, interharmonics, supraharmonics, and light flicker, between photovoltaic (PV) inverters and LED lamps in low-voltage installations. Single grid-connected power generators and electronic loads like LED lamps can be easily characterized in terms of harmonics in a given range of frequency. This subject is relatively well understood, and specific standards for measuring and restricting emissions are already established to ensure a low probability of interference. However, when connected together, source and load exhibit behavior that requires further study and understanding. This work presents a discussion serving as a guide for future work on analysis of losses and other impacts of the disturbances regarding this specific load and source interaction. The following are taken into account: the nonlinearity of LED loads and PV converters; the technologies and methods used in control; and the changes in power flow caused by load and power production variations

  • A Review of Solutions for Harmonic Mitigation
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Computer Society. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 30-35
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the increasing of non-linear equipments connected in the network, mitigation solutions are needed to avoid and solve harmonic and resonance problems that may damage equipments and avoid their connection into the grid. Several are the solutions given to this problem; however, not all them are suitable for all situations. For it, in this paper a review of the most used harmonic solutions and some new technologies are presented. The advantages and disadvantages are described and the most used passive, active and hybrid solutions are described

  • Active harmonic filters : control techniques review
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 36-41
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of active filters for harmonic mitigation compensation is increasing together with the improvement of their control techniques. Depending on the situation, the use of one technique instead of the other makes the difference of achieving a better harmonic mitigation or not. In this paper, a review of control techniques related to harmonic filters for harmonic mitigation is presented, together with the advantages and disadvantages. From the literature review it was observed that new techniques are being used and classical ones are being improved.

  • Stochastic Assessment of Voltage Unbalance due to Single-Phase-Connected Solar Power
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 17th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. - Piscataway, NJ. - 9781509037926 ; , s. 95-103
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A stochastic method is presented in this paper to estimate the future voltage unbalance in a low-voltage distribution network with high-penetration of single-phase photovoltaic inverters (PVIs). Location and phase allocation of the PVIs are considered as input parameters for the stochastic simulation. The method has been applied to three different low-voltage networks: two in Sweden and one in Germany. In the Swedish networks, for 6-kW single-phase PVIs, it is likely that the contribution from single-phase photovoltaic inverters to the voltage unbalance exceeds 1%. The 2% value is unlikely to be exceeded. In the German network, for 4.6-kW single-phase PVIs the voltage unbalance is between 1.35% and 2.62%. The risk of high voltage unbalance can be reduced by a combination of controlled distribution over the phases and reduction of the maximum size for a single-phase PVI.
