  • Characteristic mode analysis of millimeter-wave series patch array
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and North American Radio Science Meeting. IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781665496582 ; , s. 225-226
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, characteristic mode analysis is used to gain insight into the operation of millimeter-wave series patch array. It is shown that the series patch array (broadside) mode has lower modal bandwidth and higher resonant frequency than the corresponding mode of a constituting patch element, whereas the other dominant orthogonal (broadside) mode is identical between the array and the single element. Moreover, it is found that unlike the use of shorting vias, non-shorted microvias along the array direction can help to decrease the resonant frequency of the series array mode. A parametric study is performed to show the effect of the length and position of the microvias on the series array mode.

  • Characteristic Mode Decomposition of Scattering Dyadic
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, AP-S/URSI 2022 - Proceedings. - 9781665496582 ; , s. 283-284
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This abstract describes the decomposition of a matrix representing a scattering dyadic into characteristic modes. Scattering dyadic, as compared to conventionally used impedance matrices, are independent of numerical method used to compute them and the same characteristic mode formulation can be used for decomposition of composite and inhomogeneous materials. The utilization of scattering dyadic makes it possible to synthesize characteristic modes which are orthogonal over prescribed portions of the far-field sphere, or ex-post decomposition of measured data. The theory is demonstrated on a simple example and its features are discussed.

  • Cloaking Synthesis Based on Exact Re-analysis
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, AP-S/URSI 2022 - Proceedings. - 9781665496582 ; , s. 293-294
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel synthesizing procedure is introduced and employed to extract locally-optimal cloaking devices. Their performance is compared with fundamental bounds found using a convex optimization approach. The optimization method is based on a method-of-moments paradigm utilizing rank-1 updates of the structure iteratively performed based on a greedy algorithm. This approach produces locally optimal shapes and its incorporation into a global search strategy is described and applied. As compared to classical topology optimization schemes, no post-processing is required. Two canonical problems are solved and presented.

  • Transition Matrix in Characteristic Modes Theory
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, AP-S/URSI 2022 - Proceedings. - 9781665496582 ; , s. 291-292
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This abstract presents the versatility and computational effectiveness of characteristic mode decomposition based on the transition matrix. The described treatment is valid for all lossless and linear material distributions and is independent of the numerical method used to resolve a particular scattering scenario.

  • Analysis of Partially Reflective Surface Antenna with Different Reflection Magnitudes Using Ray-tracing
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, AP-S/URSI 2022 - Proceedings. - 9781665496582 ; , s. 1602-1603
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It has been shown that a partially reflective surface (PRS) antenna with a larger reflection magnitude has a higher antenna gain, based on practical design examples. In this paper, PRS antennas with different reflection magnitudes are analyzed using an intuitive ray-tracing model. It is derived that the larger reflection magnitude enables a smaller phase delay and a more uniform magnitude distribution across the PRS, which leads to a superior gain. The antennas with different reflection magnitudes were simulated in a full-wave solver to verify the derivation. The simulated phase and magnitude distributions of the PRS antennas agree with the predicted trends from ray-tracing.
