  • Methods for air tightness analysis for residential buildings in Nordic countries
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Methods for air tightness analysis forresidential buildings in Nordic countries. - Southampton : WIT Press. - 9781845646141 ; , s. 311-322
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Envelope air tightness is one factor that has impact on the energy performance ofbuildings. The goals of the directive 2010/31/EU, on energy performance ofbuildings, raise the importance of building energy performance analysis in theprocess. Measurements of air tightness can be useful both when evaluatingbuilding energy performance and developing new building techniques. The aimof this paper is to review and evaluate methods to measure air tightness in bothnew and existing residential buildings in Sweden, Norway and Finland, based onan international literature study and a survey. The methods are categorized basedon a number of criteria to determine their suitability in different situations.Advantages and disadvantages of the methods are discussed, as well ascommonly used methods in the three countries. The review shows that thestandard ISO 9972 is used for verification in all three countries, but alternativesexist that might be more suitable in certain situations. Simpler methods are usedin the building process to increase air tightness. To achieve a comparablemeasurement, both common methods and commonly defined units are needed.

  • Comparing energy signature analysis to calculated U-values in wooden houses in cold climate
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Eco-Architecture IV. - : WIT Press. - 9781845646141 - 9781845646158 ; , s. 411-419
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Sweden the housing sector stands for about 40% of the energy usage. About 20% of total energy usage goes to heating and hot tap water. Since 1920, the dominant building technology for single family houses in Sweden is a light timber-frame structure with studs at even spacing. This study aims to investigate how the static energy signature model can be used to estimate the effective U-values in existing wooden buildings and compare them to calculated U-values based on the thermal properties of the building parts. The results show that the energy signature model gives reasonable estimates of the U-value in a building. It is important though that a large difference in temperature can be achieved.

  • The energy transect; including sustainability issues in urban morphology analyses
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Eco-architecture IV. - : WIT Press. - 9781845646141 ; , s. 183-193
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To tackle climate change, pollution and dwindling resources, we need to rethink our urban environment by identifying the most suitable morphological structures, with an optimized local (cradle-to-cradle) approach to energy and resources; towards economic feasibility and improved environmental quality. In this paper we propose integrating the Transect concept with the energy issues, to provide a flexible system for allocating building types, landscaping, energy systems, etc. so that they contribute to a symbiotic ecosystem. This Transect framework can include a juxtaposed toolbox that can be used collectively at the region, city, sector, neighborhood, and block/building scale.
