  • Value Network Transformation By Digital Service Innovation In The Vehicle Industry
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 15th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems | Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS). - Brisbane, Australia : Association for Information Systems. - 9781864356441
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper reports from preparations in an ongoing research study concerning how digital service innovation transforms value networks in the vehicle industry. The research study concerns digital services based on remote diagnostics systems. This digital service innovation in particular is of great importance since the vehicle industry has great potential to expand its business and found new and extended boundaries and relationships with other stakeholder in the networks they are attached to. Core challenges and opportunities for digital service innovation will lead us to the study of its influence on the business and innovation environment i.e. the value network. In this paper, we propose three propositions to study transformation from product oriented value networks to digital service oriented value networks.

  • A Proposed Conceptual Framework For Identifying The Logic Of Digital Services
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 15th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems, PACIS 2011. - Brisbane : Association for Information Systems. - 9781864356441
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework for identifying the logic of digital services. Digital services are those services that we acquire after the digitalization of previously non-digital products or services. The objective of the framework is to apply it in identifying the logic of digital services which are the results of digital innovation in the context of remote diagnostic services in the vehicle industry. While building the framework, looking at the transformation of the non-digital to digital service and the involvement of physical products, i.e., digital devices in the transformation, it was found essential to identify the logic of the digital services on the basis of service logic and goods logic. For that purpose, we have reviewed the literature on service logic and goods logic as those logics discuss differently about the determination and meaning of value, role of customer, role of physical products, primary unit of exchange and some other aspects which are important to know in case of transforming a non-digital service to digital service. These logics and the concept of digital innovation are utilized in building the framework for identifying the logic of digital services.

  • Authentic and Concurrent Evaluation : Refining an Evaluation Approach in Design Science Research
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: PACIS 2011 PROCEEDINGS. - Brisbane : Queensland University of Technology. - 9781864356441 ; , s. Paper 82-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper addresses the need for more detailed accounts for evaluation in design science research literature. By revisiting a design project regarding the future e-newspaper we give detailed descriptions of its authentic and concurrent evaluation approach by illustrating the what, why and how of all evaluation activities throughout the whole project. The project produced seven different design artifacts that were evaluated. The utility and theoretical outcomes of the evaluation activities clearly influenced design decisions regarding newspaper design, user value and business model design as well as decisions on strategic levels. We emphasize a holistic and concurrent approach to evaluation compared to the general design science research thinking and argue that reflecting on how to seek authenticity is important. By authenticity we refer to the notion of how closely an evaluation captures the context and actual use of an artifact. With the holistic approach we encourage evaluation to be inclusive of different aspects and relationships between stakeholder groups in the evaluation activities. Further we think that concurrency is not narrowed to evaluation but also regards theorizing. While it makes sense for planning to distinguish between phases and stages of evaluation and theorizing, in practice they are intrinsically interlinked and concurrent.

  • The dynamics of interaction : exploring a living lab innovation process from a community of practice
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: In proceedings of PACIS 2011, Pacific Asia Conference on Information systems, Brisbane, Australien.. - : PACIS. - 9781864356441 ; , s. nr 79-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is based on a living lab project, which is an open, user-centric, innovation approach, where several actors from industry, user groups and academia are involved. The research question is:how can interaction dynamics be understood in a living lab innovation process? We applied an action-oriented research approach, where the empirical results are from The Find Project (TFP), which aim is to customize an ICT product based on the needs of a user group. The findings are analyzed from a community of practice perspective where three different communities, i) researchers from Halmstad Living Lab (HLL), ii) ICT developers (ICTD) and iii) next of kin of demented elderly persons (NOKD), represented the unit of analysis. We identified situations and activities that played a vital role for the innovation process in terms of boundary interaction dynamics. The contribution of our research to innovation theory is a combination and further exploration of the boundary spanning and communities of practice theories. We have developed a conceptual model describing the dynamics in boundary interactions of an ICT innovation process with regard to boundary objects-inuse and brokering. The conceptual model highlights two different levels of brokering: i) inner-level brokering and ii) outer-level brokering.

  • Goal Commitment and Competition as Drivers for Group Productivity in Business Process Modeling
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: PACIS 2011 Proceedings, Paper 159. - : Springer. - 9781864356441
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many studies have looked at the factors that control the productivity of collaborative work. We claim that goal commitment and competition have a strong impact on group productivity in collaborative modelling. To substantiate this claim we first take a look at existing factor models to identify the factors that potentially mediate the effect on group productivity. We then investigate the relation between the factors with the help of controlled field experiments in five different organisations. We confirm the theoretical results with the help of structured equation modelling.
