- This chapter examines the difficulties of pedagogy in Swedish schooling as a strategy for minimising ethnic differences in educational performances. More specifically, the purpose is to understand how pedagogy in Swedish education transforms in practice into forms of compensatory pedagogy that reaffirm the construction of racialised social differences in a way that is counterproductive to the intended purpose of creating social equity between ethnic Swedes and marginalised ethnic Others. The study is based on an ethnograpy carried out at a secondary school in an urban area with a large multi-ethnic population. Analysis of the data is informed by critical race theory and theories related to the sociology of school knowledge.
