    • The aim of this study is the history of Swedish lutheran preaching during the 19th and 20th century. It is arguing that there is two parallel main streams, different, but at times in contact with each other: one  on proportionately varying frames,  but with origins in the old Lutheran tradition with the aim to instruct the listener in a life in justification by grace in Christ,  and  the other giving the listener aid to helping oneself to find his or hers own meaning of life; the paradigm of the later tradition will change in relation to different theologial systems of immediate  contemporary intrest.

    • The article provides an overview on preaching in Sweden during the Middle Ages, then analyzes three fifteenth-century sermons composed for Easter Day, two preserved in Old Swedish and one in Latin. At the end, by way of comparison, an Easter sermon found in an early thirteenth-century manuscript from the Cistercian monastery of Alvastra is considered more briefly.
