  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The article aims to describe some of the new approaches within Early Slavic studies that have become available due to the recent appearance of on-line library catalogs, public repositories, social media networks, and digital surrogates of medieval Slavic manuscripts and early printed books. The changing opportunities and challenges within this new digital context are demonstrated through short presentations of a few projects within Swedish Early Slavic studies, including the Novgorodiana Stockholmiensia project and the project Digitalised Descriptions of Slavic Cyrillic Manuscripts and Early Printed Books in Swedish Libraries and Archives.

  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The article analyzes Alexander Revich’s 1962 poem Kolokol,“The Bell”. The poem is considered against the background of the ideological situation in the Soviet Union during the “Thaw,” the historical symbolism of bells in Russian culture, and the personal fate of the poet, whouses the image of the bell to express his civic-minded position. My analysis of the literary form focuses mainly on the semantic load carried by therhyme, as it contributes additional meaning to the poem.

  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper analyses sources for the life of the Ingrian peasant prophet Lëvuška (Leontij, Laure) Semenov Lemboinen (fl 1619–52), previ- ously known to scholarship mainly from a 1637 court hearing at Nyenskans. The movements of his family from Korbosel ́skij to Ingris (Ižorskij) pogost in 1617/18 are traced, and the environments in which he became a man are reconstructed. The paper adduces some new information about the events leading to the 1637 court examination as well as Lemboinen’s time in prison, and identifies him, in his final years, as the probable leader of a semi-monastic community of both sexes in an abandoned religious house on the banks of Lake Ladoga.

  • Беспорядки (disturbances) vs.волнения (unrest) : towards the delimitation of synonyms
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Da veselitsa Novʹgradʹ = Må Novgorod fröjda sig. - Stockholm : Institutionen för slaviska och baltiska språk, finska, nederländska och tyska, Stockholms universitet. - 9789187355240 - 9789187355257 ; , s. 167-178
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the combinability of the near-synonyms беспорядки (disturbances) and волнения (unrest). Their combinatorial properties are investigated using extensive corpus data –Sketch Engine and the Russian National Corpus (RNC). Investigating combinatorial features through the use of text corpora can help identify semantic differences that are not intuitively obvious. I will demonstrate how combinatorial properties were discovered, since analysis of these materials has revealed a number of combinatorial preferences. In future studies my findings will serve as the basis for identifying semantic and pragmatic distinctions between these near-synonyms.

  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article analyses the aspectual use of imperfective past verbal forms in a number of Russian epic narrative poems, or byliny. These forms express complete, succesive actions of some duration and they are interchanged with other temporal and aspectual verbal forms in a manner that is not characteristic of their modern use. The analysis demonstrates that many epic scenes are based on a general semantic contrast "preparation for action and its implementation". The imperfective forms stand for the preparation for action and the perfective forms for the implementation. Moreover, this lexical and grammatical semantic contrast can be supported by a rhythmic contrast between aspectual forms while it is, as a rule, realised in the more detailed descriptions of the so-called epical "common places". Finally, in parallel structures with perfective past forms the rhythmic contrast between aspectual forms disappears or it is smoothed out, while the semantic contrast remains.

  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper is one of the results of the project Digitalised descriptions of Slavic Cyrillic manuscripts and early printed books in Swedish libraries and archives and its database Cyrillic and Glagolitic Books and Manuscripts in Sweden CGS (http://anslag.rj.se/en/fund/39532). The purpose of CGS is to make Slavic Cyrillic (and Glagolitic) material in Swedish collections easily accessible to those who wish to study Cyrillic and Glagolitic book production and distribution. The paper comments on an unpublished catalogue of the Riga collection at Uppsala University library (UUB) compiled by Isak Collijn. The library of the Jesuit Collegium in Riga was donated to UUB by the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf in 1622. The identification of the entry “One Russian book in 8°, 12 copies” in UUB’s inventory U 271 is also discussed. The size of the edition, the time and place of printing, the binding and the provenance of UUB’s copies, Ksl 1 and Ksl 157, of the Vilna edition of Canisius’ Catechism in Slavonic translation (ed. Mamonič, 1585), show that they are most probably two of the twelve copies and therefore should be added to the already known Cyrillic material in the Riga collection. Other interesting findings are the earlier unknown edition of Canisius’ Catechism (Ingolstadt 1614) and the names of the first seven letters of the Cyrillic alphabet, added by hand in Latin in Ksl 157. The paper shows that these names were probably written in Sweden. A comparison has been made with the spelling of these names in Alfabetum rutenorum and in a manuscript of Grigorij Kotošichin (Extranea 157:6; CGS 3700).
