- En berättelse om entreprenaden bakom byggandet av Lunds domkyrka. Den lokala aristokratins erfarenhet av entreprenader, anskaffandet av arbetskraft och Harald Blåtands första etablering i Lund inleder redogörelsen. Den första byggnaden på kyrkoplatsen, troligen ett kloster, får byggnadsmaterialet fråm Helsingborg- och Ystadstrakten. Den stående domkyrkans sten kommer från Hallaröd/Munkarp. En fyllig redovisning av transportapparat med vägar, farleder, broar, båtar vagnar och replipunkter följer. Slavarbetskraftens förhållanden skissas. Det omfattande sockenkyrkobygget kan ses som en form av arbetsskapande åtgärd när de stora byggena var genomförda, där arbetskraften slutligen lokaliseras till Skånes allmänningsskogar och som kolonisatörer bland annat blir producenter av järn, tjära mm.

- Boken är en vänbok till Charles Westin. Bokens syfte är att forskarkolleger presenterar aktuella studier om migration, pedagogik, skrivandets konst, tolkning och främlingskap – områden där Charles själv lämnat viktiga bidrag. Vår förhoppning är att boken ska ge inspiration, kunskap och glädje i den generösa och medmänskliga anda som präglat Charles eget arbete. Bokens titel lyfter fram två begrepp som framstår som särskilt centrala i Charles verk: främlingskap och tolkning. Det sistnämnda knyter an till Charles ursprungliga metodologiska hemvist i den hermeneutiska tolkningstraditionen inom gruppen för Invandrings- och minoritetsforskning på Pedagogiska institutionen vid Stockholms universitet. Begreppet främlingskap syftar på Charles särskilda intresse för människor som faller utanför det bekanta och välkända som vi tenderar att uppfatta som normalt. Det kan gälla immigranter från en annan kultur, människor som är främlingar i sitt eget samhälle därför att de kategoriseras som romer eller samer eller personer som är beredda att tortera andra och därmed framstår som omöjliga att förstå.

- Abstract in UndeterminedCastles research has for a long period of time been concentrated to single sites: the origin of the individual castle, its different phases and dating and the castle’s place and importance in the political process. At the same time, castle studies have mainly seen the castle as a military structure. Today a broader view of the castle has emerged. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the presence of a late medieval elite aristocratic landscape at the castle of Bergkvara in Småland. At this castle we find many typical aristocratic elements that in a European perspective are connected to aristocratic milieus like castles. At Bergkvara we have a fortified residence in a watery setting, with moats, fishponds, a garden and a mill as well as a nearby church connected to the lord of the castle. Medieval space was here embedded with social meanings and for the lord of the castle a valuable asset in the struggle to maintain and reproduce lordship. One way to fulfil the aristocratic ideology was to recreate aristocratic culture in space and the landscape. The landscape at Bergkvara is a tangible materialisation of aristocratic medieval culture in a Scandinavian version.

- This dissertation focus on the social structure in the Norrlandic society during the Middle Ages. In the study of social relations I have proceeded from the way that daily life is expressed in two social spaces: the village and the farm.The social organization of the medieval village has been investigated on the basis of medieval craft and the organization of economic pursuits in the outland. This has been analysed with the focus on the village of Ängersjö in north-west Hälsingland, and it is based on the totality of archaeological remains, settlement development, and an archaeological excavation of a smithy. Apart from this the division of labour and rural craft in medieval agrarian society has been discussed with examples from the province of Hälsingland. The social space of the medieval farm is investigated in the dissertation by surveying the arrangement of the buildings and the use of space. The analyses of the medieval farm space are based on two excavated farm complexes, Björka in Hälsingland and Kyrklägdan in Jämtland. The method has above all entailed the analysis of find distribution.This dissertation has shown that the picture of the social structure in northern Sweden needs to be qualified. This is only possible when one applies a local perspective, which means that several social hierarchies can be distinguished within Norrlandic peasant society. The results of the dissertation have demonstrated the occurrence of social hierarchies at the level of village and farm. These hierarchies can be discerned, among other things, on the basis of a spatial division of activities which can be related to the degree of division of labour in the household, a difference in patterns of consumption between different farms and in the social organization of resource utilization, which was partly governed by a hierarchical structure within the peasant community.
