  • A comprehensive analysis of classification methods in gastrointestinal endoscopy imaging
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Medical Image Analysis. - 1361-8415 .- 1361-8423. ; 70
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy has been an active field of research motivated by the large number of highly lethal GI cancers. Early GI cancer precursors are often missed during the endoscopic surveillance. The high missed rate of such abnormalities during endoscopy is thus a critical bottleneck. Lack of attentiveness due to tiring procedures, and requirement of training are few contributing factors. An automatic GI disease classification system can help reduce such risks by flagging suspicious frames and lesions. GI endoscopy consists of several multi-organ surveillance, therefore, there is need to develop methods that can generalize to various endoscopic findings. In this realm, we present a comprehensive analysis of the Medico GI challenges: Medical Multimedia Task at MediaEval 2017, Medico Multimedia Task at MediaEval 2018, and BioMedia ACM MM Grand Challenge 2019. These challenges are initiative to set-up a benchmark for different computer vision methods applied to the multi-class endoscopic images and promote to build new approaches that could reliably be used in clinics. We report the performance of 21 participating teams over a period of three consecutive years and provide a detailed analysis of the methods used by the participants, highlighting the challenges and shortcomings of the current approaches and dissect their credibility for the use in clinical settings. Our analysis revealed that the participants achieved an improvement on maximum Mathew correlation coefficient (MCC) from 82.68% in 2017 to 93.98% in 2018 and 95.20% in 2019 challenges, and a significant increase in computational speed over consecutive years.

  • Impact of DC Grid Topology on Transient Stability of HVDC-Segmented Power System
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 2016 International Conference on Intelligent Systems Engineering, ICISE 2016. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781467387538 ; , s. 51-54
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper compares the effects of ring, radial and interconnected DC grid topologies on the transient stability of a segmented 15 - bus electric grid for different HVDC schemes. For this purpose, three HVDC convertor technologies and four HVDC station configurations are considered. A three phase AC bus fault is applied and the rotor angle disturbance is analyzed. The results show that the transient stability is dependent on the topology for bipolar configuration of line commutated current source and capacitor commutated convertor technologies. For rest of the HVDC schemes, transient stability is independent of the topology used.

  • Development status of life marker chip for ExoMars
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Planetary and Space Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0032-0633 .- 1873-5088. ; 72:1, s. 129-137
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Life Marker Chip (LMC) is one of the instruments being developed for possible flight on the 2018 ExoMars mission. The instrument uses solvents to extract organic compounds from samples of martian regolith and to transfer the extracts to dedicated detectors based around the use of antibodies. The scientific aims of the instrument are to detect organics in the form of biomarkers that might be associated with extinct life, extant life or abiotic sources of organics. The instrument relies on a novel surfactant-based solvent system and bespoke, commercial and research-developed antibodies against a number of distinct biomarkers or molecular types. The LMC comprises of a number of subsystems designed to accept up to four discrete samples of martian regolith or crushed rock, implement the solvent extraction, perform microfluidic-based multiplexed antibody-assays for biomarkers and other targets, optically detect the fluorescent output of the assays, control the internal instrument pressure and temperature, in addition to the associated instrument control electronics and software. The principle of operation, the design and the instrument development status as of December 2011 are reported here. The instrument principle can be extended to other configurations and missions as needed.
