  • Drying of linseed oil paints: a laboratory study of aldehyde emissions
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Industrial Crops and Products. ; 16:3, s. 173-84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effects of temperature, air humidity, air exchange rate, artificial light and fatty acid constitution on the emissions of aldehydes from linseed oil paint were investigated. Experiments were designed using a multivariate approach and data were analysed using different projection methods (principal component analysis, partial least-squares). Paints used were produced out of two different types of oils, where the fatty acid chains were either mainly linoleic or linolenic acid. The paints were applied onto glass plates and dried in chambers with a controlled climate. Aldehydes were sampled using silica gel impregnated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine and analysed by HPLC with UV and MS detection. Consecutive sampling of aldehydes every eighth hour as well as total aldehyde sampling was performed during the first 5 days after application of the paints. Hexanal and propanal were the dominating aldehydes emitted for linoleic and linolenic acid rich paint, respectively. Temperature and humidity sped up the emission process, giving a higher total amount of aldehydes. A higher amount of linoleic acid slowed down the emission process and gave higher total amounts of aldehydes. Artificial light and air exchange rate showed no significant effects on the emission process.

  • Effect of Gasoline and Lubricant on Emissions and Mutagenicity of Particles and Semivolatiles in Chain Saw Exhaust
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science & Technology. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0013-936X .- 1520-5851. ; 34:14, s. 2918-24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The exhaust from a two-stroke chain saw engine was characterized using two different types of gasoline, aliphatic gasoline and conventional lead-free gasoline, in combination with four lubricants differing in mineral oil, polyolester, and polyisobutylene (PIB) content. This characterization was focused on emissions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and mutagenicity testing using Ames Salmonella assay. In addition, exhaust emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), aldehydes, and hydrocarbons (HC) were measured. The two-stroke engine was tested in a test bench, and particulate, semivolatile, and gaseous exhaust components were sampled using a dilution tunnel. Much less PAH were emitted when using aliphatic gasoline due to a much lower gasoline content of PAH and aromatics than the conventional gasoline. Also about half the NOx emissions, up to 50% higher formaldehyde and acetaldehyde emissions, and 10% higher total HC emissions were observed for the aliphatic gasoline. The influence of lubricant on the studied exhaust emissions was found to be of minor importance. In terms of mutagenicity, significant effects were seen for six of the eight gasoline/lubricant combinations, and the highest effects were observed without a metabolizing system. Generally, the conventional gasoline gave higher effects than did the aliphatic gasoline. A difference between lubricants was also seen, especially in combination with gasoline A; however, the interpretation of mutagenic effects of the lubricants was not straightforward. Overall, one synthetic ester-based lubricant and one mineral oil-based lubricant gave the highest mutagenicity.

  • Apixaban 5 mg Twice Daily and Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Advanced Age, Low Body Weight, or High Creatinine : A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: JAMA cardiology. - : American Medical Association (AMA). - 2380-6583 .- 2380-6591. ; 1:6, s. 673-681
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IMPORTANCE: In the Apixaban for Reduction of Stroke and Other Thromboembolic Complications in Atrial Fibrillation (ARISTOTLE) trial, the standard dose of apixaban was 5 mg twice daily; patients with at least 2 dose-reduction criteria-80 years or older, weight 60 kg or less, and creatinine level 1.5 mg/dL or higher-received a reduced dose of apixaban of 2.5 mg twice daily. Little is known about patients with 1 dose-reduction criterion who received the 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban.OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of 1 dose-reduction criterion and whether the effects of the 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban on stroke or systemic embolism and bleeding varied among patients with 1 or no dose-reduction criteria.DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Among 18 201 patients in the ARISTOTLE trial, 17 322 were included in this analysis. Annualized event rates of stroke or systemic embolism and major bleeding and hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs were evaluated. Interactions between the effects of apixaban vs warfarin and the presence of 1 or no dose-reduction criteria were assessed. The first patient was enrolled in the ARISTOTLE trial on December 19, 2006, and follow-up was completed on January 30, 2011. Data were analyzed from January 2015 to May 30, 2016.MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Analysis of major bleeding included events during study drug treatment. Analysis of stroke or systemic embolism was based on intention to treat.RESULTS: Of the patients with 1 or no dose-reduction criteria assigned to receive the 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban or warfarin, 3966 had 1 dose-reduction criterion; these patients had higher rates of stroke or systemic embolism (HR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.20-1.81) and major bleeding (HR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.62-2.20) compared with those with no dose-reduction criteria (n = 13 356). The benefit of the 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban (n = 8665) compared with warfarin (n = 8657) on stroke or systemic embolism in patients with 1 dose-reduction criterion (HR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.66-1.32) and no dose-reduction criterion (HR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.62-0.97) were similar (P for interaction = .36). Similarly, the benefit of 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban compared with warfarin on major bleeding in patients with 1 dose-reduction criterion (HR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.53-0.87) and no dose-reduction criterion (HR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.60-0.86) were similar (P for interaction = .71). Similar patterns were seen for each dose-reduction criterion and across the spectrum of age, body weight, creatinine level, and creatinine clearance.CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Patients with atrial fibrillation and isolated advanced age, low body weight, or renal dysfunction have a higher risk of stroke or systemic embolism and major bleeding but show consistent benefits with the 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban vs warfarin compared with patients without these characteristics. The 5 mg twice daily dose of apixaban is safe, efficacious, and appropriate for patients with only 1 dose-reduction criterion.TRIAL REGISTRATION: clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00412984.

  • Multisource encoding and decoding using the signal apparition technique
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Geophysics. - 0016-8033. ; 83:1, s. 49-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Signal apparition is a method for encoding sources in simultaneous multisource seismic acquisition and decoding the multisource response of the earth into its single-source responses. For M sources, encoding is performed by applying periodic sequences of period M to each of the sources along source lines. Decoding is achieved in the wavenumber domain for each frequency by solving an M × M linear system of equations. The system's matrix is the product of a Fourier matrix and an encoding matrix, the latter containing the information of the codes. The solution of the system is unique when the encoding matrix is invertible. When the encoding sequences consist of time delays applied to sources' firing times, the determinant of the encoding matrix becomes a polynomial. A unique solution to decoding then exists if the roots of the polynomial avoid the unit circle. Periodic time-shift sequences for two, three, four, and six sources are discussed. A model example of simultaneous four-source data acquisition illustrates the performance of the encoding/decoding technique for the spatially nonaliased case.

  • Suffix trees on words
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Algorithmica. ; 23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss an intrinsic generalization of the suffix tree, designed to index a string of length n which has a natural partitioning into m multi-character substrings or words. This word suffix tree represents only the m suffixes that start at word boundaries. These boundaries are determined by delimiters, whose definition depends on the application.Since traditional suffix tree construction algorithms rely heavily on the fact that all suffixes are inserted, construction of a word suffix tree is nontrivial, in particular when only O(m) construction space is allowed. We solve this problem, presenting an algorithm with O(n) expected running time. In general, construction cost is Omega(n) due to the need of scanning the entire input. In applications that require strict node ordering, an additional cost of sorting O(m') characters arises, where m' is the number of distinct words. In either case, this is a significant improvement over previously known solutions.Furthermore, when the alphabet is small, we may assume that the $n$ characters in the input string occupy o(n) machine words. We illustrate that this can allow a word suffix tree to be built in sublinear time.

  • Analytic dealiasing in seismic apparition
  • 2017
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Signal apparition offers a fundamentally new perspective on simultaneous source separation. Whereas the method exactly separates the signal from interfering sources in diamond-shaped regions of the f-k space, signal from simultaneous source still overlap outside these regions. We present a method based on using local phase functions and the analytic part of the blended data to reconstruct the separated data throughout the full data bandwidth.

  • Flawless diamond separation in simultaneous source acquisition byseismic apparition
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Journal International. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0956-540X .- 1365-246X. ; 209:3, s. 1793-1739
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we prove that the recently introduced method of signal apparition optimally separates signals from interfering sources recorded during simultaneous source seismic data acquisition. By utilizing a periodic sequence of source signatures along one source line, that wavefield becomes separately partially visible in the spectral domain where it can be isolated from interfering signals, processed, and subtracted from the original recordings, thereby separating the wavefields from each other. Whereas other methods for simultaneous source separation can recover data in a triangle-shaped region in the spectral domain, signal apparition allows for the exact separation of data in a diamond-shaped region that is twice as large thereby enabling superior reconstruction of separated wavefields throughout the entire data bandwidth.

  • Quaternion dealising for simultaneous source separation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2017. - : Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Signal apparition offers a fundamentally new perspective on simultaneous source separation. Whereas the method exactly separates the signal from interfering sources in diamond-shaped regions of the frequency-wavenumber domain, signals from simultaneous sources still overlap outside these regions. We present a method based on using quaternion representations of the blended data that reconstruct the separated data throughout the full data bandwidth by iteratively using reconstructions for lower frequencies to recover the higher frequency content.
