  • A new donor-acceptor-donor polyfluorene copolymer with balanced electron and hole mobility
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Adv. Funct. Mater. FIELD Full Journal Title:Advanced Functional Materials. ; 17:18, s. 3836-3842
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new alternating polyfluorene copolymer poly[2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluoren)-alt-5,5-(5',8'-di-2-thienyl-(2',3'-bis-(3''-octyloxyphenyl)-quinoxaline))] (APFO-15), which has electron donor-acceptor-donor units in between the fluorene units, is synthesized and characterized. This polymer has a strong absorption and emission in the visible range of the solar spectrum. Its electroluminescence and photolumin escence emissions extend from about 560 to 900 nm. Moreover, solar cells with efficiencies in excess of 3.5 % have been realized from blends of APFO-15 and an electron acceptor mol., a mathanofullerene [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid Me ester (PCBM). It has also been obsd. that electron and hole transport is balanced both in the pure polymer phase and in polymer/PCBM bulk heterojunction films, which makes this material quite attractive for applications in opto-electronic devices. • Charge transport and energetic disorder in polymer: fullerene blends
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: ORGANIC ELECTRONICS. - : Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam.. - 1566-1199. ; 12:2, s. 300-305
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mobility versus temperature measurements on two different polymer: fullerene blends intended for solar cell applications have been evaluated in terms of the energetic disorder and how this varies with stoichiometry. The charge transport is shown to be confined to the intended phases in both cases, but with fundamentally different interaction properties. In one case the energetic disorder is a function of stoichiometry for the hole transport, while it is constant and equal to that of the pure fullerene for electrons, and in the other case it is the hole transport that has a stoichiometry independent energetic disorder. Transport site dilution is argued to be present in the fixed energetic disorder system and this is offered as a partial explanation to molecular weight dependent currents in solar cells. Determination of the glass transition temperature through the use of field effect transistors is also demonstrated.

  • Fully Slot-Die-Coated All-Organic Solar Cells
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: ENERGY TECHNOLOGY. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 2194-4288. ; 3:4, s. 437-442
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solar cells are perhaps the most environmentally friendly way to generate electricity available. The main drawback is the relatively large investments required by conventional technologies. Organic photovoltaics could be much cheaper. Here, we produce and characterize fully slot-die-coated, all-organic devices in a roll-to-roll process using only cheap components, benign solvents, and materials with a low environmental impact. One of the main problems with this type of device is a predisposition for short circuits. The reason for this is here identified to be mechanical failures in the active layer due to swelling of the bottom electrode material during processing. A solution to the swelling problem is provided and fully functional devices are demonstrated. On an industrial scale, this process requires only very simple slot-die coating equipment and can offer very cheap solar cells that have a very low environmental impact over their life cycle.
