  • European road users' risk perception and mobility : the SARTRE 4 survey
  • 2012
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The SARTRE (Social Attitudes to Road Traffic Risk in Europe) project started in 1991. It consists of a European wide survey about knowledge of road traffic laws and road traffic risks, attitudes regarding road safety issues, reported road traffic behaviours, transport habits and needs in several European countries. Various topics related to road safety are in the focus of the project such as alcohol, drugs, or phone use while driving, speeding, use of advanced driver assistance systems and the transport infrastructure and environment.

  • Policy instruments for managing road safety on EU-roads
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Transport. - : Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. - 1648-4142 .- 1648-3480. ; 27:4, s. 397-404
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Directive 2008/96/EC on road infrastructure safety management requires the establishment and implementation of procedures relating to road safety impact assessments (RSIA), road safety audits (RSA), ranking of high accident concentration sections and network safety ranking (NSR) and road safety inspections (RSI). The aim of this article is to present the outputs of BALTRIS project. The goal of the international project BALTRIS is to elaborate the road and street infrastructure safety management procedures and teaching material consistently explaining the above mentioned infrastructure management procedures. Four Baltic Sea region countries (Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), represented by universities and national road administrations participate in the elaboration of these procedures and teaching material. This article describes the scope of NSR, RSA and RSI procedures prepared in the frame of BALTRIS project, also article provides detailed implementation and execution of procedures for the EU Member States. NSR means a method for identifying, analysing and classifying parts of the existing road network according to their potential for safety development and accident cost savings. Ranking of high accident concentration sections means a method to identify, analyse and rank sections of the road network which have been in operation for 3 divided by 5 years and upon which a large number of fatal/injury accidents in proportion to the traffic flow or compared to respective conditions have occurred. RSI is a strategic comparative analysis of the impact of the new road or a substantial modification to the existing network on the safety performance of the road network. RSA is a formal safety performance examination of the existing or future road or intersection by an independent audit team.

  • Road safety differences in the Baltic-Nordic region
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Conference Road Safety on Three Continents in Pretoria, South Africa, 20-22 September 2000. - Linköping : Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut. ; , s. 66-76
  • Konferensbidrag (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to compare and analyse the road safety and traffic behaviour of road users in the Baltic and Nordic countries (excluding Iceland). The large differences in traffic safety have decreased following the re-establishing of the independence of the Baltic countries in the beginning of the 1990s. The paper compares data such as accident location, fatalities among different road users, age and gender in fatal accidents and collision types. Furthermore, statistics and legislation concerning drunken driving, speeding, use of safety belt and other equipment is compared. A brief presentation of road user attitudes towards different accident prevention measures is also presented.

  • Traffic safety comparison of some post-socialist and high-developed countries
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Traffic Safety on Three Continents : International conference in Moscow, Russia, 19-21 September, 2001. - Linköping : Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut. ; , s. 198-212
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The object of this paper is to compare and analyze the road safety and traffic behavior of road users in selected countries - Estonia, Finland, Czech Republic, Hungary, United States of America and the Russian Federation during the last period. The United States has the highest motorization ratio in the world and, together with Finland, the highest road safety characteristics. The Czech Republic and Hungary have many similarities because of their involvement in the former socialist block and relatively moderate road safety level; while Estonia and the Russian Federation were incorporated in the former USSR until the early 1990s, thus road safety characteristics should be much improved.
