  • Kvinnlig makt eller maktlösa kvinnor: Maktstrukturer och könsuppfattningar i kristen fundamentalistisk ideologi
  • 2003

  • A gender perspective on interreligious dialogue
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Plural voices. Intradisciplinary perspectives on interreligious issues. - 9789042920729 ; 41 (in Peeters series: Studies in philosophical theology), s. 185-201
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Interreligious dialogue is designed to take into account a plurality of faiths. But at the same time it often excludes or marginalizes women, both physically and conceptually, which is disqualifying for a dialogue that have pretensions to be non-oppressive. The article illustrates some areas where a gender perspective may be relevant, as in the selection of the participants of the dialogue and in the communicative style of the dialogue, and ends with a reflection on the prospects for incorporating a gender perspective in interreligious dialogue.

  • Finns Gud? Feministiska förhållningssätt till en omdebatterad fråga
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Kvinnovetenskaplig tidskrift. - 0348-8365. ; :3-4, s. 71-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Gender within Christian fundamentalism : a philosophical analysis of conceptual oppression
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Philosophy and Theology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 2169-2327 .- 2169-2335. ; 75:5, s. 460-473
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article launches a conceptual argument against the suggestion that Christian fundamentalist women, having for religious reasons voluntarily chosen their subjugation, are not oppressed. The article also rebuts the related argument that Christian fundamentalism provides women with adequate means for subversive power. Instead, the article proposes that women within Christian fundamentalism are oppressed, because within Christian fundamentalism the very identity of ‘woman’ is construedas subjected, thus obliterating the possibility of choosing a non-subjected identity.

  • God in the act of reference : A conceptual analysis of reference and reality and its consequences for the debate on religious realism and nonrealism
  • 2000
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The dissertation addresses the problem of reference actualised in religiousrealism's claim that religious nonrealism is religiously inadequate since init "God" does not refer to a God existing independently of human conceptualisations. The study aims to show that the referential argument against religious nonrealism is not necessarily successful once the existential and referential presumptions of the argument are critically examined. To that end a gradual distinction between conceptualisations with lower and higher dependencies on physical characteristics is introduced to account for how we conceptualise our surroundings and why we consider something to be real or not. Further, Donnellan's referential-attributive distinction is understood in the light of the dissolution of the strict division between semantics and pragmatics, and is used for suggesting a view on the referent as constituted by the speaker's directive intentions as manifested and interpreted in the context of utterance. From ordinary language use, including contexts such as children's make-believe play, it is shown that both physically existing and so called non-existing objects are constituted as referents with higher or lower dependencies on physical characteristics and as having various conceptual relations and functions. It is finally argued that such a pragmatic analysis of what constitutes the referent to "God" can account for why God in a religious context can be considered to be real without additionally asserting God's metaphysical and independent existence.

  • God in the Act of Reference: Debating Religious Realism and Non-Realism
  • 2002
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • To claim to believe in God without accepting that God exists independently of human minds would mean reducing God to merely a human construct, thus not real enough for being the object of religious worship. This book sets out to challenge this common view on existence and religious belief. Arguing from concrete examples of language use in children's make-believe play and other ordinary situations, Erica Appelros suggests that what makes us consider something to be real involves our capacities to relate to our surroundings -- not only on grounds of their physical characteristics but also on grounds of human construction. This book makes a substantial contribution to the contemporary debate within philosohpy of religion on religious realism and non-realism, and suggests innovative and constructive solutions to the perennial philosophical and religious issue of what is meant by talking about God and God's existence.

  • Intersektionalitet och religiös förändring
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Svensk religionshistorisk årsskrift. - 0283-0302. ; 15, s. 18-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Categories frequently discussed in terms of intersectionality are gender, class, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. This article argues that, often, religion is also a relevant dimension in intersectional analyses. The concept "religious proximity" is therefore introduced as an analytical tool which will facilitate a more complex analysis of situations where a religious dimension interacts with the other dimensions. The closer to God, the religious centre, the divine will, or the like, a person or group is considered to be, from the viewpoint of a certain religious context, the more power and authority he or she has, formal or informal. The article thus proposes that we speak of degrees of religious proximity and shows by means of examples how situations can be given an intersectional analysis including an irreducible religious dimension. Focus in the examples is on the intersection of gender and religious proximity, especially in contexts where established religous centres are questioned or reinforced, and possible competing centres are present, generating new standards for religous proximity.

  • Jesus -- vår syster och broder
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Svensk Kyrkotidning. - 0346-2153. ; 105:16, s. 213-215
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The fact that Jesus was a man is claimed to be problematic from a feministic standpoint. One aspect of what is problematic is that the conception of Jesus as the Christ, representing God, makes the connection between men and God closer that that between women and God. In terms of religious proximity men are given a higher degree of religious proximity and therefore also religious authority by means of their sex than women. It is suggested in the article, based on a pragmatic theory of reference, that Jesus’ maleness need not enter into the reference to Jesus in an imitation-Christi-context of reference. Therefore it is possible to talk about Jesus functionally, as in the children’s game “follow John”, where in neither case the sex of the person is important for the function being carried out. At the same time it is suggested that we use also female terms for referring to Christ, such as e.g. Sophia, the divine Wisdom, in order to prevent any undesired associations between men and the divine.
