  • How do children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder interact in a clinical dental examination? : A video analysis.
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Oral Sciences. - : Wiley. - 0909-8836 .- 1600-0722. ; 113:3, s. 203-209
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is currently the most common behavioural disorder in school-age children. The aim of this study was to perform a detailed analysis of behavioural interactions between the dentist and the child patient with ADHD. All children born in 1991(n=555) in one Swedish municipality were screened for attention and learning problems and assessed for ADHD: Twenty-two children with ADHD and a control group of 47 children without attention and learning problems were included in the study. The dental recall visit was recorded on video. The interaction between the dentist and the child was analyzed in detail and scored as verbal and nonverbal initiatives and responses. Compared to the children in the control group, the children with ADHD made significantly more initiatives, especially initiatives that did not focus on the eaxmination or the dentist. The children with ADHD had fewer verbal responses and more missing responses. In conclusion, the problems in communication resulted in less two-way communication between the dentist and the children with ADHD than the interaction between the dentist and the children in the control group. The children with ADHD had particular difficulties staying focused on the examination.

  • Full recovery of hip muscle strength is not achieved at return to sports in patients with femoroacetabular impingement surgery
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0942-2056 .- 1433-7347. ; 28:4, s. 1276-1282
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose The purpose of this study was to study dynamic hip external rotation strength in patients with Femoroacetabular impingement surgery (FAI) syndrome who have undergone unilateral arthroscopic treatment and returned to sports. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed using an observational group (n = 22) and a matched control group (n = 22). Dynamic external rotation strength of the hip was measured using the Augustsson Strength Test, which has shown high reliability for examining side-to-side differences in hip muscle strength. Results Dynamic hip external rotation strength was significantly lower in the arthroscopically treated hip compared with the non-treated hip within the observational group (p < 0.004). Conclusion This cross-sectional study shows that at return to sports, patients who have undergone unilateral arthroscopic treatment for FAI syndrome do not have adequate hip muscle strength recovery. Rehabilitation protocols should, therefore, emphasise post-operative strength training of the hip muscles. Additional research is needed to determine the consequences of reduced hip strength for the long-term outcome after arthroscopically treated FAI. Clinical relevance: The results of this study underline the importance of post-operative strength training prior to returning to sports in patients with femoroacetabular impingement surgery.

  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Consumer report ("avnämarrapport" in Swedish) for a research foundation (Transportforskningsdelegationen TFD, Stockholm). A comment: As was the praxis during this (early) period of time at Chalmers University of Technology, as well as probably at some other universities. This means that frequent and vast academic publication by means of e.g. conference papers and refereed contributions to scientific journals was almost unheard of. At least so for some of the applied science disciplines (today are the situation indeed very different) (i.e. earlier was the publication in many respects focused on trying to satisfy the executive administrator the research foundation in question).
