  • Knowledge Integration in Inter-firm R&D Collaboration : How do Firms Manage Problems of Coordination and Cooperation?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Knowledge Integration and Innovation: Critical Challenges Facing International Technology-Based Firms. - Oxford : Oxford University Press. - 9780191730580 - 9780199693924 ; , s. 149-169
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Firms often need to collaboratively use and integrate two or more organizations' knowledge bases in order to achieve their goals. This is a challenging task due to two sets of commonly identified problems: ‘problems of coordination’ that derive from knowledge contingencies, and ‘problems of cooperation’ that derive from relationship factors. While literature often treats these problems independently, this chapter focuses on how they can be modelled jointly within a framework grounded in knowledge-based and transaction cost approaches to the firm. The findings from a case study of three inter-firm R&D collaborations suggest that treating both problems as interdependent, rather than isolated, can provide a better account for the challenges and structure of inter-firm R&D collaborations. The results imply that neither firms nor research should focus too much on either of the problems at the expense of the other.

  • Konsumenter om tomat
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: LTJ-fakultetens faktablad.
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract

  • Knowledge Integration in Inter-firm R&D Collaboration : How do Firms Manage Problems of Coordination and Cooperation?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Knowledge Integration & Innovation. - Oxford, UK : Oxford University Press. - 9780199693924 - 0199693927 ; , s. 148-169
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Technology-based firms continue to compete primarily on innovation, and are continuously required to present new solutions to an exacting market. As technological complexity and specialization intensifies, firms increasingly need to integrate and co-ordinate knowledge by means of project groups, diversified organizations, inter-organizational partnerships, and strategic alliances. Innovation processes have progressively become interdisciplinary, collaborative, inter-organizational, and international, and a firm's ability to synthesize knowledge across disciplines, organizations, and geographical locations has a major influence on its viability and success.

  • Knowledge integration in inter-firm R&D relationships: How do firms balance problems of coordination with problems of cooperation?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Knowledge Integration and Innovation: Critical Challenges Facing International Technology-based Firms. - : Oxford University Press. - 9780199693924 ; , s. 148-169
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Prior research has typically focused on either of two problems that may face firms in R&D collaboration; problems of coordination that derive from knowledge contingencies or problems of cooperation that stem from relationship factors. Rather than treating these problems in isolation, the findings of the present study suggest that in order to understand knowledge integration in R&D collaboration both types of problems should be treated simultaneously. We suggest that the interplay between these two sets of problems may explain both the extent of knowledge integration in partnerships, and how the partnering firms set out to accomplish knowledge integration. The findings are important as R&D collaborations are frequently concerned with how to share and integrate knowledge without becoming subject to potential expropriation by partners.

  • Trigeminal Nerve Stimulation Does Not Acutely Affect Cortical Excitability in Healthy Subjects
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Brain Stimulation. - : Elsevier BV. - 1935-861X .- 1876-4754. ; 7:4, s. 613-617
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Trigeminal nerve stimulation (TNS) has recently emerged as a new therapeutic option for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy but its potential mechanisms of action are not known. Since other antiepileptic treatments have been shown to alter cortical excitability, thereby reducing the liability to seizures, it has been suggested that cranial nerve stimulation such as TNS may act in the same way.OBJECTIVE: To study whether TNS has the potential to alter cortical excitability in healthy subjects.METHODS: An adaptive paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation protocol stimulating the dominant hand motor area was used to measure resting motor threshold (rMT), short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI), intracortical facilitation (ICF) and long-interval intracortical inhibition (LICI) before, during, and after 40 min of 120 Hz bilateral external continuous trigeminal nerve stimulation. Neuronavigation was used for guidance.RESULTS: TNS was well tolerated by all subjects. No significant changes were seen in the parameters studied.CONCLUSION: Unlike for example anti-epileptic drugs and the ketogenic diet, trigeminal nerve stimulation does not seem to alter cortical excitability in healthy subjects. This is the first study on cortical excitability in relation to continuous trigeminal nerve stimulation. It still remains to be proven that TNS has the prerequisites to effectively counteract epileptic events in humans.

  • Collective action problems in public sector innovation: A business model perspective
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Creativity and Innovation Management. - : Wiley. - 0963-1690 .- 1467-8691. ; 26:4, s. 370-378
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We explore how the literature on business models can explain the outcomes of innovation attempts in the public sector. Our findings suggest that governments can access a well-developed knowledge domain for a public sector area but have a weak ability to propagate its value for society. Drawing on the business model literature concerning interdependence and distributed agency, we illustrate how a collective action problem related to innovation may arise in the public sector. We illustrate this new category of public innovation challenge with the (failed) case of the Swedish civil contingencies system and subsequently discuss a new line of inquiry for future research.

  • Enabling knowledge communication between companies : the role of integration mechanisms in product development collaborations
  • 2008
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • “Enabling Knowledge Communication between Companies” is essential for creating competitive advantage from collaborations. Communicating knowledge is about the capacity to e.g. transfer knowledge, create learning and design new technology. It is an issue of increasing importance to many companies whose operations are outsourced, offshored and integrated with alliance partners. This book addresses the type of collaboration that perhaps is the most challenging to manage – the development of new and complex products between companies. Collaboration on product development is attractive to many companies because of opportunities to share costs, distribute risks and enhance innovation potential. Achieving the goals of such collaborations is often hard because of difficulties with knowledge communication. The book identies issues that are critical for enabling knowledge communication between companies, including: The role of work integration between collaborating companies. The type of location suitable for different kinds of product development between companies. The managing of differences in companies’ perspectives on product technology and development processes. If you are in a position of leading, planning or analysing advanced collaboration with other companies, you should benefit from this study. It is intended for both researchers and managers dealing with operations between the company and its external network of partners, suppliers and customers.
