  • Fresnel diffraction of a Gaussian laser beam by polished metal cylinders
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X .- 2155-3165. ; 29:3, s. 416-421
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A laser beam touching the periphery of a polished cylinder is subjected to both diffraction and reflection. Inthe area where diffracted light and reflected light interact the resulting intensity distribution differs from thepattern predicted by diffraction theory for a sharp edge. The difference increases with cylinder radius. Inthis paper it is shown that a good description of the resulting intensity pattern is obtained by adding thereflected light amplitude to the diffracted amplitude as predicted by the Fresnel-Kirchhoff theory for a sharpedge.

  • A method to resolve the 180° ambiguity in speckle photography
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X .- 2155-3165. ; 30:4, s. 376-378
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A new way of resolving the 180° ambiguity in speckle photography is presented. Results from a study of the deformation of a wooden block caused by drying illustrates the method

  • Determination of the photoelastic constants of NaCl, NaF, KCl, and ki by means of brillouin scattering
  • 1973
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969 .- 0556-2805. ; 8:12, s. 5888-5893
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The photoelastic constants of NaCl, NaF, KCl, and KI have been determined by studying Brillouin scattering at 90° and 180°. The absolute intensities of the Brillouin doublets were obtained by comparing the Brillouin intensity with the intensity scattered by toluene, which has a well-known photoelastic coefficient. The results are NaCl: p11=0.115±0.009, p12=0.161±0.008, p44=−0.011±0.001; NaF:p12=0.123±0.009; KCl:p11=0.233±0.013, p12=0.169±0.008, p44=−0.026±0.002; and KI:p11=0.208±0.012, p12=0.166±0.008, p44=−0.011±0.001.

  • Elastic constants of KCL and NACL from brillouin scattering
  • 1975
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics (IOP). - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; 11:1, s. 43-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The elastic constants of KCl and NaCl have been determined by studying Brillouin scattering at 90o. The scattered light was analysed by a pressure scanned Fabry-Perot interferometer, the pressure in which was monitored by a Michelson interferometer. Our results have an accuracy comparableto the results of recent ultrasonic measurements, and the agreement between the two methods is excellent in most cases. It is believed that the accuracy of the method described here could be substantially increased by further refinements of the experimental apparatus.

  • Measuring 3-D displacement of a surface using the white light speckle technique
  • 1986
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering. - : SPIE. - 0277-786X .- 1996-756X. ; 599, s. 207-210
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When measuring in plane surface deformation using white light speckle photography, errors will arise if an out of plane displacement is present. Here it is shown that stereoscopic photography resolves this problem and makes the measurement of true in plane displacements possible. A rigid body translation is also introduced to determine unambiguously the direction of the displacement

  • Measuring true in-plane displacements of a surface by stereoscopic white-light speckle photography
  • 1987
  • Ingår i: Optical Engineering. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng. - 0091-3286 .- 1560-2303. ; 26:2, s. 167-169
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When in-plane surface deformations are measured using white-light speckle photography, errors arise if an out-of-plane displacement is present. Stereoscopic photography resolves this problem and makes possible the measurement of true in-plane displacements. A rigid-body translation is introduced to determine unambiguously the direction of the displacement
