  • Agent- and Skill-based Process Interoperability for Socio-Technical Production Systems-of-Systems
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 1868-4238 .- 1868-422X. - 9783030579968 ; 592, s. 46-54
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this research work, we take an interoperability point of view on “production systems-of-systems”. Interoperability of production processes re-quires a stepwise planning of resources. An approach supporting the orchestration and coordination of human and artificial agents (i.e. collaborative robots) is de-veloped. First tasks are assigned to production resources/agents, followed by an interaction and task execution design. Another step taken into account is the tech-nology used as a human-robot interface.

  • Cognitive automation strategie: Improving use-efficiency of carrier and content of information
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 17, s. 67-70
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The production paradigm of mass customization puts high demand on the production system and the people who works there. This is especially true for final assembly where the number of variants is the richest. To handle this variety, the operator needs the correct information accessible at the right time; the operator wants to know how and when to assemble what part. What is correct information includes the amount of information (content of information), how it is presented (carrier of information) and who is the receiver (specific operator). The strategy for Cognitive Automation will be more and more important for companies within this paradigm. This paper aims to show the use-Efficiency of information, both carrier and content, in two industrial case studies. Furthermore how the cognitive automation strategy within a company is connected to the maturity of technology. ©2014 Elsevier B.V. This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license.

  • CREATING A STRUCTURED MEETING ARENA FOR KNOWLEDGE SHARING
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The sixth Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789198097412
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper aims to describe how to create and structure a meeting arena by combining organisation structure and information structure; this will be used in order to create an innovative and creative arena for knowledge sharing and problem solving within the company. The model is exemplified by four industrial case-studies. Results reveal that most of the companies do not have any standards for information- or knowledge sharing, most improvement potentials are seen in structuring and storing the right information (IS), aiming from tacit towards explicit knowledge (OS) and this could be done by structuring the questions in the OS-M-IS model and by creating innovative and creative meeting arenas.

  • CREATING STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS – CURRENT STATE ANALYSIS
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The sixth Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789198097412
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper present result from three global companies regarding strategies for creating global instructions, the studies are from a current state perspective. The result is based from a survey with 65 respondents. The designers are responsible for instructions and are from two different areas; assembly and service market. Furthermore a workshop has been arranged were two of three companies participated. Three main issues towards formulating a strategy will be discussed; (1) Information carrier; the results reveal that the most common information carrier for instructions are, Paper, Personal meetings and Desktops. (2) Who is responsible for quality assurance, most answers were production engineers. (3) Are there any standards concerning instruction at your company today? The respondents answered yes or under development in over 80 % of the cases on the question; if it exist any standards today.

  • Creating strategies to improve the use of it-and is-systems in final assembly
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering. ; 8, s. 177-182
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Assembly systems are complex due to mass customization. In order to be able to produce a variance of products a well functional information system is vital. Companies need a digital strategy in order to design adaptive systems to increase flexibility and usage of information support systems (IS-Systems) among operators. In case studies from Swedish industries, it is shown that operators often use their own experience when assembling products. This paper aims to describe how a digital strategy can be developed, combining IT-systems and IS-system to create dynamic systems for operators. The paper will combine two methods, MEET-model that has been used to improve meeting situations but could also be used to create digital strategies at companies. An additional use of the Delone and McLean model will be used to create the bridge between the IT-system and the IS-system. Results show that combining these models gives a clearer and broader view of the digital strategy and a possible bridge between IT-and IS-developers to create a better and more dynamic shop-floor IT system.

  • Digitalisation of MEETings - from White-boards to SMART-boards
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 41, s. 1125-1130
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Information is a vital resource in development activities of any business. These systems also play a very important role in the knowledge sharing of an organisation. In order to properly bridge over from the information system to the organisation system, the transformation process from data, via information, to knowledge becomes important to understand. A challenge is to create appropriate conditions in both the organization system and in the information system enhancing knowledge sharing among employees, and promote organizational learning. This paper will analyse an industrial example of weekly planning meetings for preventative maintenance, this will be illustrated in the OS-M-IS model i.e. were the information sharing exist in a current situation (whiteboards). A future situation of the same case will be tested and evaluated in a lab environment (with SMART boards and iObeya) as a first step.

  • Evaluating Cobots For Final Assembly
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 44, s. 175-180
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Collaborative robots becomes more and more common in lab environment and soon also in industry. In order to create resource- and volume flexibility, dynamic and smart automation could be seen as an answer. This paper has investigated the collaborative robots UR3 and UR5 for O-ring assembly and final assembly, compared to the current state which is performed manually. The methodology Dynamo++ was used for measurement and analysis in terms of LoA (cognitive and physical), cycle-time and quality. Furthermore, automation strategy, safety and easiness of programming was investigated. Results show that collaborative robots have great potential in the middle product volume area. A lot of time, layout space and money could be saved with these solutions. However, standards and safety has to be investigated further in order to reach its fully potential

  • Low-cost Automation – changing the traditional view on automation strategies using collaborative applications
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IFAC-PapersOnLine. - : Elsevier BV. - 2405-8963. ; 53, s. 10285-10290
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The labor cost has been one of the main reasons for industry to move some of the production to so called low-cost countries. Research has shown that this issue is more complex than just calculate labor cost as main driver. Organization culture, research and development and technical competence is also important drivers for a successful automation strategy. Another important factor when it comes to automation strategies is what production parameters to consider choosing the right automation. Traditionally five parameters have been considered i.e. Volume, batch sizes, variants, investment cost and labor cost. With new and cheaper solutions for automation these two views on automation and lowcost production need to be considered and changed. This paper will describe three demonstrators using low-cost automation solutions to automate simple tasks in final assembly systems. The stations' investment cost is all below 50,000 euro. The first demonstrators have been set up and tested in a lab environment. The results show a high precision, easiness in programming and high quality. The aim is to test this further in real industrial environment to stress the system and to put it into a tougher environment.

  • Using the TRL methodology to design supporting ICT-tools for production operator
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 17, s. 726-731
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Technology Readiness Level or TRL, has a long history at NASA and American Department of Defence (DoD), when designing and testing new technologies. Could this methodology be used in a production system context? Due to the increased information complexity in production systems today new technologies and prototypes have to be developed and tested more frequently. Cognitive automation strategies are becoming a competitive benefit for the companies that have a standardisation when it comes to prototyping and testing. The aim of this paper is to show how the TRL could be used to design supporting ICT-tools for operators in Swedish production. The internal testing has been done at the university lab, and the external tests have been done in two industrial case studies as an input for the results in this paper. Results show that even though it is good to have a structured methodology to follow, it is difficult to put the methodology to use in a different context.
