  • Co-localization of CD169+ macrophages and cancer cells in lymph node metastases of breast cancer patients is linked to improved prognosis and PDL1 expression
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: OncoImmunology. - 2162-4011. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women worldwide. Although the survival among breast cancer patients has improved, there is still a large group of patients with dismal prognosis. One of the most important prognostic factors for poor prognosis is lymph node metastasis. Increasing knowledge concerning the lymph nodes of breast cancer patients indicates that they are affected by the primary tumor. In this study we show that presence of CD169+ subcapsular sinus macrophages in contact with lymph node metastases in breast cancer patients, is related to better prognosis after adjuvant tamoxifen treatment, but only in patients with PDL1+ primary tumors. This is in contrast to the prognostic effect of CD169+ primary tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). We further show that CD169+ macrophages were spatially associated with expression of PDL1 on nearby cells, both in primary tumors and metastatic lymph node, although PDL1 expression in metastatic lymph node as such did not have further prognostic impact. Our data suggest that CD169+ resident lymph node macrophages have a unique function in targeting immune responses against breast cancer and should be further investigated in detail.

  • A world of innumberable inactivities Martin Hägglund and the economy of non-existence
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Svensk Teologisk Kvartalskrift. - 0039-6761. ; 96:4, s. 297-315
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This essay challenges Martin Hägglund's interpretation of the hope of immortality as a longing for death and his identification of life with survival. It does so by interpreting the epitaph of the charwoman, which John Maynard Keynes refers to in "Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren", as an eschatological speculation on what the dead are doing in the afterlife. The epitaph expresses a sabbatical hope "to do nothing for ever and ever" and by putting it against Hägglund's understanding of life and immortality I show how a theology of immortality, rising from the charwoman's desire, (1) conjures a state beyond the struggle for survival in order to make the desire to do nothing for ever and ever plausible, (2) reconceptualizes the difference between life and death, and indicates a fluidity of the border between existence and nonexistence to the point that the problem of being has to be revisited, and (3) expresses what a long tradition has described as the purpose of philosophy and theology: to teach us how to die (and therefore how to live in relation to our coming death). The author argues that the hope for immortality is not a hope for timeless existence per se but rather a hope for a life unburdened by the struggle for survival. Against Hägglund, the charwoman legitimatizes the hope for immortality as a desire that goes beyond the confines of this life.

  • Plotinus
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Agamben's Philosophical Lineage. Adam Kotsko and Carlo Salzani (eds.). - Edinburgh : Edinburgh University Press. - 9781474423649 ; , s. 186-192
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The philosophy of Plotinus plays a contradictory role in Giorgio Agamben’s corpus. He comments Plotinus in a lapidary fashion in several articles and essays before commencing the Homo Sacer series, reaching the longer and ambiguous analysis of Plotinus in Opus Dei and The Use of Bodies. In this chapter I examine Agamben's use of Plotinus and especially his discussion of the plotinian idea of an exile from this world.

  • The Irritability of Being: Martin Heidegger, Hans Driesch and the Future of Theology
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Heidegger’s Black Notebooks and the Future of Theology / edited by Mårten Björk, Jayne Svenungsson. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783319649269 ; , s. 277-313
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This chapter investigates the anthropology that underpins Heidegger’s quest for the liberation of Dasein from the ‘animality’ of humanity, and that prompted him to embrace Nazism and to develop a theology of what he described as ‘the last god’. Heidegger’s ontological stipulation of the human as Dasein is contrasted with the biologist and neovitalist philosopher Hans Driesch’s philosophy of the organism, which Heidegger used in his 1929/1930 lecture series The Fundamental Concepts of Metaphysics. These famous lectures give us a privileged access to the unfolding of Heidegger’s thinking towards an Antisemitic and pro-Occidental mythology of the last god in the Black Notebooks. Through the contrast between Heidegger and Driesch, the author wishes to show that the future of theology may be found in the of critical metaphysics initiated by the neovitalists’ original way of addressing the problem of immortality and eternal life.

  • The politics of immortality in Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg : Theology and resistance between 1914-1945
  • 2022
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Highlighting the central importance of theological configurations of immortality and eternal life from 1914-1945, Mårten Björk explores the key writings of Franz Rosenzweig, Karl Barth and Oskar Goldberg to situate their ideas in relation to the political turmoil of the period, including the rise of social Darwinism, nationalism and fascism. The conversations happening among Christian and Jewish theologians and philosophers on the nature of immortality and eternal life during the period constitute what Björk calls a 'politics of immortality'. The speculative question of eternal life became a way to address the meaning of 'a good life' in a period when millions of lives were lost to war, camps and prisons. This book shows how theology was related to central political concepts and ideas of the era, revealing how the question of immortality pursued by Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg became a way to resist the reduction of life to race, blood and soil. By situating the exact political consequences of theological and metaphysical theories of immortality and eternal life, Björk's discussion of Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg confronts the perennial question on the relation between life and death and exposes the important connections between political theology and philosophical posthumanism.

  • Vilka av de döpta är kristna? [bloggpost]
  • 2021
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
Särskilt tillspetsad blir frågan då någon konverterar under vistelsen i Sverige. Skall den svenska rättsordningen ta sådana konvertiter på allvar? Föreligger inte risken att den nya tron bara är en taktisk manöver för att förstärka ens asylskäl?
