  • Design methods and factors influencing their uptake in product development companies: A review
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 13th International Design Conference - DESIGN'14. - 1847-9073. ; DS 77, s. 231-240, s. 231-240
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Design methods are necessary to support product development companies in improving their product development processes, and thereby in producing high quality products. The uptake of design methods in product development companies is limited and lower than one might expect. There is a wide variety of literature related to factors that influence the uptake of design methods in companies. In this paper, we synthesised this literature, and in particular, developed a framework of factors than can influence the uptake of design methods in product development companies.

  • A review of the fundamentals of the systematic engineering design process models
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 10th International Design Conference - DESIGN'08. - 9789536313891 ; DS 48-1, s. 199-210
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper it is shown that the central features of systematic engineering design process models: a step-by-step concretisation of the product with a systematic variation of subsolutions and recombination are not absolutely necessary. Current models are neither generic nor ideal. Instead of using product characteristics as a basis for design process models, the focus should be on the concrete goals of product development in industry. As these goals are manifold, the design process needs to be flexible, giving the engineering designer more freedom . Finally it is recommended to separate the feasibility study (term to be preferred to conceptual design) from more routine-like product development.

  • CONCEPTUAL DESIGN FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING: AN EXPLORATIVE STUDY
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Design Society: DESIGN Conference. - : Cambridge University Press (CUP). - 2633-7762. ; 1, s. 441-450
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the broader industrial application of Additive Manufacturing (AM), designers are facing new challenges in conceptual design for AM. To better understand the problematic, the authors organised a design workshop with six experts in AM. The paper presents the results of the conducted design workshop and discusses the current and future trends in research on the conceptual design for AM.
