  • The Zwicky Transient Facility : System Overview, Performance, and First Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. - : IOP Publishing. - 0004-6280 .- 1538-3873. ; 131:995
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) is a new optical time-domain survey that uses the Palomar 48 inch Schmidt telescope. A custom-built wide-field camera provides a 47 deg(2) field of view and 8 s readout time, yielding more than an order of magnitude improvement in survey speed relative to its predecessor survey, the Palomar Transient Factory. We describe the design and implementation of the camera and observing system. The ZTF data system at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center provides near-real-time reduction to identify moving and varying objects. We outline the analysis pipelines, data products, and associated archive. Finally, we present on-sky performance analysis and first scientific results from commissioning and the early survey. ZTF's public alert stream will serve as a useful precursor for that of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope.

  • Impact of Scattering Within a Multipath Simulator Antenna Array on the Ricean Fading Distribution Parameters in OTA Testing
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. - 0018-926X .- 1558-2221. ; 62:6, s. 3257-3269
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate the unwanted scattering that exists within the multipath simulator (MPS) array antennas employed in over the air (OTA) testing of mobile terminals. The impact of scattering is evaluated in terms of the measurement uncertainty of the average received power and the Ricean K-factor. The maximum ratio combining diversity is investigated for a generic device under test comprising two half-wavelength dipole antennas. We provide closed-form expressions for the uncertainties of the average received power and the Ricean K-factor for a uniform circular array of MPS antennas and a 2-D uniformly distributed angle-of-arrival spectrum. We also derive the maximum number of MPS antennas and the minimum ring radius of the MPS system as a function of the separation between the most distant antenna elements if the device under test employs a uniform linear array. As a result, we provide design guidelines for MPS array in terms of the number antennas, the radius of the MPS array and the wavelength of the carrier frequency.

  • Calibrating regionally downscaled precipitation over Norway through quantile-based approaches
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Advances in Statistical Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography. - 2364-3579 .- 2364-3587. ; 2, s. 39-47
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dynamical downscaling of earth system models is intended to produce high-resolution climate in- formation at regional to local scales. Current models, while adequate for describing temperature distributions at relatively small scales, struggle when it comes to describing precipitation distributions. In order to better match the distribution of observed precipitation over Norway, we consider approaches to statistical adjustment of the output from a regional climate model when forced with ERA-40 reanalysis boundary conditions. As a second step, we try to correct downscalings of historical climate model runs using these transformations built from downscaled ERA-40 data. Unless such calibrations are successful, it is difficult to argue that scenario-based downscaled climate projections are realistic and useful for decision makers. We study both full quantile cali- brations and several different methods that correct individual quantiles separately using random field models. Results based on cross-validation show that while a full quantile calibration is not very effective in this case, one can correct individual quantiles satisfactorily if the spatial structure in the data are accounted for. Interestingly, different methods are favoured depending on whether ERA-40 data or historical climate model runs are adjusted.

  • Characteristics of finasteride users in comparison with non-users: a Nordic nationwide study based on individual-level data from Denmark, Finland, and Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety. - : Wiley. - 1053-8569 .- 1099-1557. ; 29:4, s. 453-460
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Published epidemiological studies on the association between finasterideuse and the risk of male breast cancer have been inconclusive due to methodologicallimitations including a few male breast cancer cases included. Determinants of malebreast cancer have been studied, but it remains unexplored whether these are alsorelated to finasteride use and thereby constitute potential confounders. This studyaimed to assess whether there are differences between finasteride users andnonusers with regard to numerous potential confounders. Methods: In total, 246 508 finasteride users (≥35 years) were identified in the pre-scription registries of Denmark (1995-2014), Finland (1997-2013), and Sweden(2005-2014). An equal number of nonusers were sampled. The directed acyclic graph(DAG) methodology was used to identify potential confounders for the associationbetween finasteride and male breast cancer. A logistic regression model comparedfinasteride users and nonusers with regard to potential confounders that were mea-surable in registries and population surveys. Results: Finasteride users had higher odds of testicular abnormalities (odds ratio[OR] 1.40; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.36-1.44), obesity (1.31; 1.23-1.39), exoge-nous testosterone (1.61; 1.48-1.74), radiation exposure (1.22; 1.18-1.27), and diabe-tes (1.07; 1.04-1.10) and lower odds of occupational exposure in perfume industry orin high temperature environments (0.93; 0.87-0.99), living alone (0.89; 0.88-0.91), liv-ing in urban/suburban areas (0.97; 0.95-0.99), and physical inactivity (0.70;0.50-0.99) compared to nonusers. Conclusions: Systematic differences between finasteride users and nonusers werefound emphasizing the importance of confounder adjustment of associationsbetween finasteride and male breast cancer.

  • Histidine-Rich Glycoprotein as an Early Biomarker of Preeclampsia
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Hypertension. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0895-7061 .- 1941-7225. ; 24:4, s. 496-501
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Prediction of preeclampsia is of great interest and the coagulation system as well as the angiogenic pathway is known to be dysfunctional in preeclampsia. Histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG) is a protein interacting with both these biological systems and the purpose of this prospective, longitudinal cohort study was to analyze whether there is a difference in circulating levels of HRG during pregnancy in women developing preeclampsia compared to normal healthy pregnancies. We furthermore wanted to evaluate whether HRG has the potential of being an early biomarker of preeclampsia. METHODS: A cohort of healthy pregnant women (n = 469) was enrolled at gestational weeks 8-12. Plasma samples were collected at gestational weeks 10, 25, 28, 33, and 37 and analyzed with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The levels of HRG decreased during pregnancy in all women, but the levels were significantly lower at gestational weeks 10, 25, and 28 in women who later developed preeclampsia than in normal pregnant women (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, and P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our data indicates that HRG levels in plasma might be a possible biomarker already in gestational week 10 for prediction of later onset of preeclampsia in a low risk population.

  • Experiences as input to eHealth design - a hip surgery patient journey case.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Studies in health technology and informatics. - 1879-8365. ; 210, s. 672-4
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of the study is to describe the planned hip-surgery care process as experienced by patients and healthcare professionals, as well as a qualitative analysis of problems. Data was collected through 3 focus group meetings with patients and healthcare professionals. We present the results in form of a patient journey model, examples of problems as expressed by patients and examples of proposed eHealth services by both patients and care professionals. The results indicate that although the patient journey is similar for most patients, their experiences are highly individual and designing eHealth to improve the patient journey will require flexibility and adaptability to the individual's needs.

  • Living with Lung Cancer--Patients' Experiences as Input to eHealth Service Design.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Studies in health technology and informatics. - 1879-8365. ; 216, s. 391-5
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective of the study is to describe the lung cancer care process as experienced by patients, as well as to perform a qualitative analysis of problems they encounter throughout the patient journey. A user-centered design approach was used and data collected through two focus group meetings with patients. We present the results in the form of a patient journey model, descriptions of problems related to the journey as expressed by patients and proposed eHealth services discussed by patients in the focus groups. The results indicate that not only is the patient journey fragmented and different for each patient going through it depending upon their specific type of lung cancer and treatment options, but their experiences are also highly individual and dependent on their personal needs and interpretations of the process. Designing eHealth to improve the patient journey will therefore require flexibility and adaptability to the individual's needs.
