  • Arton 24 : Arton (24)
  • 2014
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A publication that brigs together the work of 19 graduating masters students from fine art and from photography. It also includes contributions by three of their tutors: Lotta Antonsson, Jason E. Bowman and Esther Shalev-Gerz. Through a series of lunch time panels and discussions ‘onArt’ held in conjunction with a rolling programme of solo thesis exhibitions, the artists have explored critical questions of artists’ agency and self-institution; artists’ rights, employment conditions and market and commissioning contexts; and artists’ many different languages and critical frames. These themes are further expanded upon and contested in the form of a newly commissioned text by artist Frida Sandström and two interviews conducted by the publication’s editors, the first with Mikael Nanfeldt, director of Göteborgs Konsthall, and the second with Jason E. Bowman, curator of student group exhibition ‘Fast Forward’ at Göteborgs Konsthall. Edited by Thom Bridge and Kjell Caminha.

  • 150 Years of Art Education in Gothenburg
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Presented at the panel 'On the questions facing art education today', as part of 150 YEARS OF ART EDUCATION IN GOTHENBURG conference. 2-3 October.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The conference will explore the potentials and conditions of contemporary art education with particular focus on the role of art, and of artists, in generating and sustaining critical practices in an expanded field of education. A key question presented to participants is that of the role of artists, and of works of art, in the education of artists and in education more broadly conceived. If once we could take it as a given that the education of artists would be led by artists, and led by the singularity of the encounter with artistic practices and works, we see that this position is increasingly. At the same moment we encounter, in the debates among critical arts educators, a revisiting of foundational moments in the development of the art academy and of contemporary art's different pedagogical heritages. This conference will draw upon the longstanding tradition of experimentation in artist-led education, independent artistic practice and artist-led culture in Gothenburg in order to engage international networks of artists, educators, critics and curators to discuss the key problems and contests that define contemporary art education, its recent histories and its possible futures. At a time when the global discussion of critical educational practice is overshadowed by the hegemony of neoliberal assaults on public culture, the conference seeks to inform the future development of artistic experimentation as educational praxis, within wider webs of interaction and dialogue with other societal actors, and with respect to the contested domains of 'public' culture. Drawing upon the unique cross-interaction of artistic practices at the Academy, we seek also to consider the commonalities and differences across artistic education in the different traditions of fine art, film, photography and literary composition. Confirmed speakers include: Dave Beech (UK/SE), Maj Hasager (SE), David Larsson, Steven Madoff (US), Per Nilsson (SE), Daniel Peltz (US), Katya Sander (GE/DK), Rod Stoneman (IRE), Sissi Westerberg (SE) and Mick Wilson (IRE/SE)

  • Hemma hos Kjell
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Exhibited at Motbilder (Counterparts) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • Konstnärligt arbete (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the artwork ‘Hemma hos Kjell’ or ‘At Kjell’s’, the Brazilian-Swedish artist Kjell Caminha invites people to visit his suburban located two-bedroom apartment, to eat with him Brazilian national dish feijoada. Feijoada is said to be created by African slaves who worked on plantations, used to spare the leftovers (lots of pork meat) and long-cook them together with cheap black beans. A situation is slightly inclined while announcing the artwork to potential guests: Kjell is strongly expecting you to invite him back.

  • Hur står det till? Göteborg som konststad
  • 2014

  • Public Art Research Report (2018)
  • 2018
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report provides an overview of the current state of research on public art in the Nordic Countries, as well as within the wider international context. The key purpose of the report is to identify where the needs and opportunities are for the development of a research programme to support the further development of public art paradigms, policies and practices within Sweden. The report is commissioned by the Public Art Agency Sweden, and has been prepared by researchers based at Södertörn University and at Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg, between June and September, 2018. The report is based on two strands of survey and analysis: (i) research produced within the Nordic countries, and (ii) research produced in the wider international context. Both strands have focused on academic sources, as traditionally construed, such as peer-reviewed conference papers, articles, dissertations, monographs, anthologies and professional journals. We have drawn upon a sampling of research from a broad range of disciplines (art history, urbanism, planning, architecture, social science) as well as taking under consideration the work done by various public art agencies. In addition to this we have included artistic research about public art in a broad sense as well as various co-operations between artists and academics, as well as other non-institutional actors. (A second iteration of the international report is in development for 2022.)
