  • An IoT based mobile augmented reality application for energy visualization in buildings environments
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Applied Sciences. - : MDPI. - 2076-3417. ; 10:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Augmented reality (AR) improves how we acquire, understand, and display information without distracting us from the real world. These technologies can be used in different applications and industries as they can incorporate domain-specific visualizations on a real-world screen. Mobile augmented reality (MAR) essentially consists of superimposing virtual elements over real objects on the screen, to give added value and enrich the interaction with reality. In numerous plants, it is being used for maintenance and repair tasks, as well as training. The Internet of Things (IoT) is increasingly pervading every aspect of our lives, including the power infrastructure of our buildings. IoT-enabled devices offer many connectivity options for helping supervise all-important energy assets. Aggregating data to cloud-based platforms enables operations teams to have on-time information access to make fast decisions and have a fast response regarding energy use, while maintenance teams keep on top of the appliance power quality and reliability needed by using MAR. This paper presents a novel approximation for visualizing appliance-related power quality to enhance awareness about the consumed electricity. A combined solution of MAR with IoT technologies is employed. Engineered solutions’ hands-free way to get data about surrounding appliances reduces the complexity, saves energy, and speeds up the operations. An innovative way to measure things at the right time leads to a competitive advantage.

  • Association of Mediterranean diet with survival after breast cancer diagnosis in women from nine European countries : results from the EPIC cohort study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: BMC Medicine. - : BioMed Central (BMC). - 1741-7015. ; 21:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The Mediterranean diet has been associated with lower risk of breast cancer (BC) but evidence from prospective studies on the role of Mediterranean diet on BC survival remains sparse and conflicting. We aimed to investigate whether adherence to Mediterranean diet prior to diagnosis is associated with overall and BC-specific mortality. Methods: A total of 13,270 incident breast cancer cases were identified from an initial sample of 318,686 women in 9 countries from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study. Adherence to Mediterranean diet was estimated through the adapted relative Mediterranean diet (arMED), a 16-point score that includes 8 key components of the Mediterranean diet and excludes alcohol. The degree of adherence to arMED was classified as low (score 0–5), medium (score 6–8), and high (score 9–16). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the association between the arMED score and overall mortality, and Fine-Gray competing risks models were applied for BC-specific mortality. Results: After a mean follow-up of 8.6 years from diagnosis, 2340 women died, including 1475 from breast cancer. Among all BC survivors, low compared to medium adherence to arMED score was associated with a 13% higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR 1.13, 95%CI 1.01–1.26). High compared to medium adherence to arMED showed a non-statistically significant association (HR 0.94; 95% CI 0.84–1.05). With no statistically significant departures from linearity, on a continuous scale, a 3-unit increase in the arMED score was associated with an 8% reduced risk of overall mortality (HR3-unit 0.92, 95% CI: 0.87–0.97). This result sustained when restricted to postmenopausal women and was stronger among metastatic BC cases (HR3-unit 0.81, 95% CI: 0.72–0.91).Conclusions: Consuming a Mediterranean diet before BC diagnosis may improve long-term prognosis, particularly after menopause and in cases of metastatic breast cancer. Well-designed dietary interventions are needed to confirm these findings and define specific dietary recommendations.

  • Dietary patterns related to biological mechanisms and survival after breast cancer diagnosis : results from a cohort study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Cancer. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 0007-0920 .- 1532-1827. ; 128, s. 1301-1310
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Inflammatory, insulin and oestrogenic pathways have been linked to breast cancer (BC). We aimed to examine the relationship between pre-diagnostic dietary patterns related to these mechanisms and BC survival. Methods: The diabetes risk reduction diet (DRRD), inflammatory score of diet (ISD) and oestrogen-related dietary pattern (ERDP) were calculated using dietary data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess associations between dietary patterns and overall mortality and competing risk models for associations with BC-specific mortality. Results: We included 13,270 BC cases with a mean follow-up after diagnosis of 8.6 years, representing 2340 total deaths, including 1475 BC deaths. Higher adherence to the DRRD score was associated with lower overall mortality (HR1–SD 0.92; 95%CI 0.87–0.96). Greater adherence to pro-inflammatory diets was borderline associated with 6% higher mortality HR1–SD 1.06; 95%CI 1.00–1.12. No significant association with the oestrogen-related dietary pattern was observed. None of the dietary patterns were associated with BC-specific mortality. Conclusions: Greater adherence to an anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory diet prior to diagnosis is associated with lower overall mortality among BC survivors. Long-term adherence to these dietary patterns could be a means to improve the prognosis of BC survivors.

  • Psychopharmacology in children and adolescents: unmet needs and opportunities
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: The Lancet Psychiatry. - 2215-0366 .- 2215-0374. ; 11:2, s. 143-154
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Psychopharmacological treatment is an important component of the multimodal intervention approach to treating mental health conditions in children and adolescents. Currently, there are many unmet needs but also opportunities, alongside possible risks to consider, regarding the pharmacological treatment of mental health conditions in children and adolescents. In this Position Paper, we highlight and address these unmet needs and opportunities, including the perspectives of clinicians and researchers from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology–Child and Adolescent Network, alongside those of experts by lived experience from national and international associations, via a survey involving 644 participants from 13 countries, and of regulators, through representation from the European Medicines Agency. We present and discuss the evidence base for medications currently used for mental disorders in children and adolescents, medications in the pipeline, opportunities in the development of novel medications, crucial priorities for the conduct of future clinical studies, challenges and opportunities in terms of the regulatory and legislative framework, and innovations in the way research is conducted, reported, and promoted.

  • Emission on the low voltage grid : measurements in an urban area
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: The Renewable Energies and Power Quality Journal. - : AEDERMACP (European Association for the Development of Renewable Energies and Power Quality). - 2172-038X. ; :12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the results of a set of measurements to study changes in voltage harmonic emission in LV grid due to the introduction of energy-efficient lamps. The paper involves measurements in an urban area performed in the north of Sweden. Measurements of voltage harmonic were performed before and after replacing all existing (mainly incandescent) lamps with LED lamps in all 12 houses belonging to the same urban area. The total power of all lamps was reduced from approximately 2300 W to 450 W, per house. All new lamps were low-power-factor lamps. In this paper it has only been shown the results for two individual houses over the twelve that changed their lamps. Those results are then compared with the standard EN 50160 in order to foresee the voltage impact after changing to LED lamps. © 2014, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ).

  • Harmonic phase angles for a domestic customer with different types of lighting
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems. - : Hindawi Limited. - 2050-7038. ; 25:7, s. 1281-1296
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents measurements of the changes in phase angle of the harmonic current for a domestic costumer due to the introduction of energy-efficient lamps (compact fluorescent lamps and light-emitting diodes lamps). Those results are then compared with the aggregation rules according to standard IEC 61000-3-6 and with a mathematical model, in order to highlight the importance of using phase angles in the harmonic estimations. The paper presents both the emission from individual household devices and the variations in the complex harmonic current from a group of devices. Cancellation because of phase-angle difference plays an important role in the emission from a group of different devices. This explains why the increase in emission after changing to energy-efficient lamps is much smaller than expected. Some other power-quality parameters are also considered such as total harmonic distortion, total power factor, and displacement power factor. It is concluded that the complex plane presentation is a useful tool to estimate the harmonic emission from a group of domestic appliances.

  • Harmonics from a domestic customer with different lamp technologies
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 15th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power (ICHQP). - : IEEE Communications Society. - 9781467319447 ; , s. 585-590
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the results of a set of measurements to study changes in harmonic emission from a domestic customer due to the introduction of energy-efficient lamps (CFL and LED lamps). This emission has been studied through both magnitude and complex harmonic current. We can see that the emission depends on the lamps that are connected as a background. Sometimes adding a new device reduces the harmonic sometimes it increases it. The harmonic current produced by aggregate loads is significantly smaller than the algebraic sum of the harmonic current produced by each one separately. Therefore, it can be some cancellation effect not only between devices, but also among customers. Overall, the measurements confirm the conclusion that there is some increase in harmonic emission due to the replacement of incandescent lamps by CFLs and LED lamps, but that there is no reason for concern.
