  • An extended packetization-aware mapping algorithm for scalable video coding in finite-length fountain codes
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Science China Information Sciences. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1674-733X .- 1869-1919. ; 56:4, s. 042311-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose an extended packetization-aware mapping algorithm based on fountain codes to enhance video stream performance which is vulnerable to packet losses. By properly utilizing the proposed algorithm in finite-length cases, the edges connecting to a source symbol are scattered over multiple encoding packets so that the decoding probabilities are increased. Furthermore, an improved degree distribution is designed to obtain better decoding probabilities. Numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm in finite-length cases can augment decoding probabilities and the improved degree distribution can increase peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of scalable video coding (SVC) in a hostile communication environment.

  • Wireless Caching: Cell-Free versus Small Cells
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMMUNICATIONS (ICC 2021). - : IEEE. - 9781728171227
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Caching popular contents at a large number of access points and edge-clouds is a promising solution to alleviate the increasing backhaul congestion in beyond fifth-generation (B5G) networks. By integrating with cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CF mMIMO), wireless caching can harness their combined virtues, i.e., almost uniform service quality, strong macro-diversity, and reduction of the data traffic from the core network. In this paper, we consider an offline cache-aided scenario with two caching strategies to minimize the total energy consumption (TEC), which are evaluated from the cache hit probability (CHP). The TEC minimization is showed to be NP-complete and, hence, dealt with a proposed greedy algorithm. An adaptive power control policy is proposed to reduce the TEC. We compare CF mMIMO with small cells in terms of the successful content delivery probability (SCDP) and TEC, respectively. The numerical results show that CF mMIMO can offer a much more uniform service, significantly higher SCDP, and lower average TEC when compared to than SC.

  • Statistically robust resource allocation for distributed multi-carrier cooperative networks
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Science China Information Sciences. - : Springer. - 1674-733X .- 1869-1919. ; 56:2, s. 109-121
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate joint subcarrier and power allocation scheme for distributed multi-carrier cooperative networks with imperfect channel state information. Using practical channel estimation algorithms, the statistic model of the channel estimation error is first derived. Then based on the channel error model, the resource allocation scheme aims at maximizing the sum rate of the overall network. Specifically, both subcarrier allocation and power allocation are taken into account. In the subcarrier allocation, a realistic problem of the power leakage between neighboring subcarriers is also addressed. Furthermore, based on Lagrange dual-decomposition algorithm, a practical power allocation algorithm is proposed. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the performance advantages of the proposed robust design.

  • Optimal mode selection with uplink data rate maximization for D2D-aided underlaying cellular networks
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : IEEE. - 2169-3536. ; 4, s. 8844-8856
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The device-to-device (D2D) communication has been regarded as an effective technique for complementing and enhancing the conventional cellular systems owing to its capability of substantially improving both the spectral and power efficiencies of wireless networks. However, the severe interference imposed on the conventional cellular users (CUs) by the geographically close-by D2D pairs may cause a significant performance erosion in the D2D-aided underlaying cellular networks (CNs). In this paper, performance analysis for the D2D-aided underlaying CNs in terms of throughput is provided. We first derive the closed-form expressions of the coverage probability for both the conventional cellular links and the D2D links, followed by giving out the approximated expressions of the ergodic data rate for both an individual cellular/D2D link and the whole underlaying network. Furthermore, the key parameters (e.g., the density of D2D users (DUs) or CUs, and the average geographical distance between a pair of D2D peers) significantly impacting the channel capacity are adaptively adjusted for maximizing the sum data rate of the proposed underlaying networks. In addition, both theoretical analysis and simulation results reveal the attainability of the maximal throughput by optimizing the critical parameters, such as the density of DUs, provided that the scale factor between the DUs and sum users (i.e., comprising both conventional CUs and DUs) can be effectively balanced subject to the constraints specified in the proposed scheme

  • Design of Binary Network Codes for Multiuser Multiway Relay Networks
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. - 0018-9545 .- 1939-9359. ; 62:8, s. 3786-3799
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study multiuser multiway relay networks where N user nodes exchange their information through a single-relay node. We use network coding (NC) in the relay to increase the throughput. Due to the limitation of complexity, we only consider the binary multiuser NC (BMNC) in the relay. We study the BMNC matrix [in GF(2)] and propose several design criteria on the BMNC matrix to improve the symbol error probability (SEP) performance. Closed-form expressions of the SEP of the system are provided. Moreover, an upper bound of the SEP is also proposed to provide further insights into system performance. Then, BMNC matrices are designed to minimize error probabilities.

  • Power allocation for OFDM-based cognitive heterogeneous networks
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Science China Information Sciences. - : Springer. - 1674-733X .- 1869-1919. ; 56:4, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, the capacity maximization and the spectrum utilization efficiency improvement are investigated for the Pico cells in broadband heterogeneous networks. In frequency-reuse model, the users attached to Macro base station are usually viewed as primary users, and those attached to Pico base station should be regarded as cognitive radio (CR) users. As both the primary users and the CR users communicate in parallel frequency bands, the performance of the system is limited by the mutual inter-carrier interference (ICI). In order to control ICI and maximize the achievable transmission rate of the CR users, an effective power allocation scheme is proposed to maximize the transmission rate of the CR users under a given interference threshold prescribed by the primary users. By transforming this suboptimal solution into an innovative matrix expression, the algorithm is easier to perform in practice. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides a large performance gain in Pico cell capacity over the non-cooperative and equal power allocation schemes.
