  • In-situ studies of oxidation/reduction of copper in Cu-CHA SCR catalysts:comparison of fresh and SO2-poisoned catalysts
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • SO2-poisoning results in deactivation of Cu-CHA SCR under standard SCR conditions; however regeneration at 700 ◦C completely restores the SCR performance. To understand the nature of these effects, Cu-species in the fresh and poisoned catalystswere characterized by in-situ temperature-dependent time-resolved Cu K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy using the multivariate curve resolution alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) approach and continuous Cauchy wavelet transforms. The extracted chemically-meaningful reference spectra of Cu-species were analyzed by DFT-assisted XANES calculations. Cu-bisulfates werefound as the most energetically favorable poisoned Cu-species. The response of Cu-species to a reducing environment differs inthe fresh and SO2-poisoned catalysts. Differences in reducibility are related to the formation of quasi-linear Cu-complexes in the SO2-poisoned catalyst formed during heating in H2/He. Heating in H2/He leads to partial desulfurization of the poisoned catalyst. Cooling in H2/He after heating results in more facile formation of Cu-metal clusters in fresh catalyst than in SO2-poisoned.

  • Spectres of Intellectual Property in the Soviet Union: The Development and Recognition of the Inventor’s Certificate
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Pólemos. - 2035-5262 .- 2036-4601. ; 17:2, s. 293-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • After the October Revolution in 1917, the legal protection for inventions in the Soviet Union underwent a series of transformations. One of the key changes was the emergence of the "inventor's certificate" as a socialist alternative to patents, whereby inventions were declared to be state property, but inventors were entitled to recognition and compensation. Patents were generally available in parallel to inventor's certificates, but the latter remained the preferred mechanism for encouraging the worker-inventor and mass inventing activity, as well as promoting the free flow of information that capitalist patent systems had failed to achieve. However, as the Soviet Union started to pursue membership of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, several socialist countries sought to amend the treaty to recognise their inventor's certificates as equivalent to patents. This sparked a debate amongst Paris Union members, during which the socialist countries portrayed the inventor's certificate in a manner analogous to Schrödinger's cat: it simultaneously was and wasn't a patent. While the debate was never fully resolved by the Paris Union members, this article revisits the history and international debates about the Soviet protection of inventions to consider what the uncertainty about the inventor's certificate might reveal about the circulation of technical information and the nature of global intellectual property law.

  • Comparison of visual acuity charts identifying visual impairment among older people outside the eye clinic
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Disability and Rehabilitation. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0963-8288 .- 1464-5165. ; 35:16, s. 1394-1400
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Evaluate the construct validity and describe sensitivity, specificity and predictive value of two short charts of visual acuity (VA) and examine whether these can identify and detect signs of visual impairment among older people. Method: The study included 43 persons, >65 years, with age related eye disease, living in their own homes. An ophthalmologist assessed the individuals' VA at an eye clinic with the 5 m KM chart. A research assistant assessed individuals' VA by the 1 m KM chart and the Visual Acuity Screening Test in their home environment. Results: All persons with a VA level of <0.5 were correctly identified by both instruments. The instruments have good positive and negative predictive values for the 1 m KM chart (73% and 100%) and for the Visual Acuity Screening Test (69% and 100%). The construct validity between the instruments was good, but the assessment at the eye clinic assessed the participants as having higher VA level. Conclusions: Both instruments have good construct validity, considering they were carried out in poorer lighting conditions and a good predictive value for screening out VA levels <0.5. The 1 m KM chart showed the best agreement with the 5 m KM chart.

  • Bokbyggare : Carlsson Bokförlag under trettio år
  • 2013. - 1

  • Cross-national differences in the gender gap in subjective health in Europe : Does country level gender equality matter?
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Social Science and Medicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 0277-9536 .- 1873-5347. ; 98, s. 24-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multiple studies have found that women report being in worse health despite living longer. Gender gaps vary cross-nationally, but relatively little is known about the causes of comparative differences. Existing literature is inconclusive as to whether gender gaps in health are smaller in more gender equal societies. We analyze gender gaps in self-rated health (SRH) and limiting longstanding illness (LLI) with five waves of European Social Survey data for 191,104 respondents from 28 countries. We use means, odds ratios, logistic regressions, and multilevel random slopes logistic regressions. Gender gaps in subjective health vary visibly across Europe. In many countries (especially in Eastern and Southern Europe), women report distinctly worse health, while in others (such as Estonia, Finland, and Great Britain) there are small or no differences. Logistic regressions ran separately for each country revealed that individual-level socioeconomic and demographic variables explain a majority of these gaps in some countries, but contribute little to their understanding in most countries. In yet other countries, men had worse health when these variables were controlled for. Cross-national variation in the gender gaps exists after accounting for individual-level factors. Against expectations, the remaining gaps are not systematically related to societal-level gender inequality in the multilevel analyses. Our findings stress persistent cross-national variability in gender gaps in health and call for further analysis.

  • De dog för att vi skulle leva : Rysslands patriotiska fostran och de levandes plikter mot de döda
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nordisk Østforum. - : Universitetsforlaget. - 0801-7220 .- 1891-1773. ; 28:1, s. 25-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article discusses military-patriotic education in Russia, focusing on the example of the nationwide search movement. This civil movement of volunteers is searching for the remains of fallen soldiers left on the battlefields from the Second World War all over Russia. The movement has young people as a main target group, and explicitly wants to make a contribution to the patriotic upbringing of Russia's young. In this work, the movement relates to the official government plans for patriotic education. As the prefix ‘military’ often is used, patriotic education can be seen as one aspect of civil-military relations. In both the government plans and within the search movement, a distinction tends to be made between ‘good’ patriotism and ‘bad’ nationalism, and the article discusses both these notions in the Soviet/Russian context. A number of obligations are central to the notion of patriotism: for the search movement, an obligation to the past, to remember, is the most important.

  • Extracting the Commons
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Cultural Studies. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0950-2386 .- 1466-4348. ; 31:2-3, s. 253-276
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article investigates how resources that are perceived as common are turned into property through different interventions of extractivism, and how this provokes counter-activism from groups and actors who see their rights and living conditions threatened by the practices of extraction. The article looks at how extraction is enacted through three distinct practices: prospecting, enclosure and unbundling, studied through three different cases. The cases involve resources that are material and immaterial, renewable as well as non-renewable, ‘natural’ as well as man-made. Prospecting is exemplified by patenting of genetic resources and traditional knowledge, enclosure is exemplified by debates over copyright expansionism and information commons, and unbundling through conflicts over mining and gas extraction. The article draws on fieldwork involving interviews and participant observation with protesters at contested mining sites in Australia and with digital rights activists from across the world who protest against how the expansion of copyright limits public access to culture and information. The article departs from an understanding of ‘commons’ not as an open access resource, but as a resource shared by a group of people, often subjected to particular social norms that regulate how it can be used. Enclosure and extraction are both social processes, dependent on recognising some and downplaying or misrecognising other social relations when it comes to resources and processes of property creation. These processes are always, regardless of the particular resources at stake, cultural in the sense that the uses of the commons are regulated through cultural norms and contracts, but also that they carry profound cultural and social meanings for those who use them. Finally, the commonalities and heterogeneities of these protest movements are analysed as ‘working in common’, where the resistance to extraction in itself represents a process of commoning.

  • Hur stor är en gruva? : Överlappandeproblemområden i en handläggningsprocess
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nordisk Administrativt Tidsskrift. - : Djoef Forlag. - 2246-1310. ; 98:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
