- A curated collection of papers, provocations and actions from the ‘Walking’s New Movements’ conference held at the University of Plymouth in November 2019. The experience and variety of walking practices have never been so broad, relevant or unpredictable. Walking Bodies charts some of their very latest developments. Editors Helen Billinghurst, Claire Hind and Phil Smith put out a call for artists, activists, academics, radical walkers and psychogeographers to discuss, perform and share their experiences of current walking cultures. In these essays, provocations, artworks and documentations, new terrains emerge and diverse energies and thinkings reflect the huge response to the initial call and the demand for tickets to the conference. Walking Bodies evidences anxieties, exclusions and gradual but major changes of direction for walking arts, towards more considered and embodied practices that re-navigate their terrains and challenge assumptions about trajectories through the unhuman world. Here are the beginnings of differently negotiated, shared, provoked and provocative ambulations. Walking Bodies is intended for anyone who makes, or wants to make, walking art or walk-performances - and for anyone interested in psychogeography, radical walking, drift and dérive, site-specific performance.

Synthesis of Electroactive Molecules Based on Benzodioxins and Tetrathiafulvalenes

- This thesis deals with the synthesis of electroactiveorganic compounds. The synthesis of ethylenedioxy-benzodioxinstri-dioxin and tetra-dioxin are described. These molecules wereprepared with the aim of creating donor molecules for cationicradical salts. The symmetric analogs of tri-dioxin,methylenedioxy-derivative and ethylenedioxy-naphthalene werealso synthesized. Three different cation radical salts with 2:1stoichiometries were obtained from tri-dioxin, whiletetra-dioxin merely provided polycrystalline materials.Tri-dioxin and tetra-dioxin were also successful as operationalmatrixes in PALDI-TOF.Tetrathiafulvalenes with the2-dialkyl-amino-1,3-dithiolium-4-thiolate mesoion asbuilding-block was also synthesized. A series of doublyalkylthiol-substituted TTFs were prepared with the aim offorming self-assembly monolayers on gold surfaces in theapplication of organic thin film field-effect transistors.Film-formation for two TTFs were studied and they providedrelatively dense packed monolayers with a discrete distance ofthe TTF moiety from the gold surface.The mesoionic compound was also for the first time used inanumpolungreaction. The electrophile obtained in situ bytreatment of mesoion with sulfuryl chloride was reacted with avariety of electron-rich aromatic compounds. - A series of new tetrathiafulvalenes, with double alkylthiol or alkyldisulfide substitution, have been prepared with a synthetic procedure that allows variation of different substituents. The target compounds 6a-e and 15e-i are sparsely soluble in organic solvents, but TTFs 6d and 15g gave a relatively dense packed monolayer upon exposure to gold surfaces.

- 1929 bildades Göteborgs första Högre allmänna läroverk för Flickor – Flickläroverket som fick en byggnad 1935 i det kulturella centrumet, Götaplatsen. Efter några år som Kjellbergska gymnasiet, sedan Komvux, blev byggnaden del av Artisten, Högskolan för scen och musik, HSM 1992. Byggnaden har burit kvinnors utbildning, konst och kultur över många generationer, en minneskedja som nu är bruten. Boken - En båge genom tiden – ritualer kring en göteborgshistoria – en konst- och forskningsantologi – är resultatet av de offentliga minnesdagar där de deltagande drygt 200 kvinnorna (70– 97 år) som varit elever på Flickläroverket, studenter vid Artisten, konstnärer och forskare – bidrog till och deltog i gestaltande ritualer, minnesrum, dans, utställningar och samtal som gav liv åt en utbildningskultur och konst som berört samhället i generationer. I boken bidrar ett 20-tal Göteborgsbaserade konstnärer och forskare med olika perspektiv på byggnadens poetiska, sociala och konstnärliga dimensioner. Bland annat beskrivs återskapandet av Bågdansen, som dansades varje år vid Lucia mellan 1934-1972. Här beskrivs även den medie-debatt som ledde till räddningen av målningen Dansen av Nils Nilsson från 1935 och hur nedtagningen gick till. Tillsammans med ett rikt foto- och bildmaterial, filmdokumentationer och ett ljudarkiv utgör boken ett tidsdokument där konst fungerar som minnesbärare över tid och rum.

- The synthesis of a series of new alkoxylated linearly annulated dioxins is described together with their cyclic voltammetric behavior and some preliminary result on their ability to form cation radical salts. Of these dioxins, seven (8, 12, 19, 21, 27, 33, 34) are the first representatives of entirely new heterocyclic systems. Dioxins 8, 21, 22 and 27 gave good quality cation radical salts upon electrocrystallization.

- Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivative substituted with two butyl- and two dodecylthiol chains is adsorbed on polycrystalline gold. The TTF-derived thiol adsorbates were characterized by ellipsometry, contact angle goniometry, infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The molecule is strongly anchored on the gold surface through the sulfur terminating the alkylthiol chains. On the average, the TTF moiety is oriented extended away from the gold surface. The topmost layer of the film containing the dibutyl chains is disordered with gauche defects. The molecule was organized with majority of the alkylthiol chains bound to the gold surface. There are indications of pinholes in the monolayer due to steric hindrance of the bulky TTF rings. The molecular systems consisting of an electroactive pi-system such as TTF, are promising for thin-film field effect transistor application.

- The use of non-polar, small polymers as matrices for the analysis of low molecular weight compounds in polymer-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (PALDI-MS) is demonstrated. The matrices evaluated were either based on an oligothiophene or a benzodioxin backbone. Metallocenes, polycyclic hydrocarbons, a fluorosurfactant, and a subset of small organic compounds with various functionalities, served as model analytes. The mechanism of ionization charge transfer is discussed and ionization potentials for the matrices in the study have been estimated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Some of the results are possibly contradictory to the generally accepted limiting conditions for gas-phase charge-transfer reactions. These results are interpreted in the light of energy pooling. Also a new mass calibration procedure for the lowmass region in positive ion mode is presented, and some aspects of the ionization/desorption process leading to radical cations are studied.
