  • Robust Constraint on a Drifting Proton-to-Electron Mass Ratio at z=0.89 from Methanol Observation at Three Radio Telescopes
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114 .- 0031-9007. ; 111:23, s. 231101-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A limit on a possible cosmological variation of the proton-to-electron mass ratio μ is derived from methanol (CH3OH) absorption lines in the benchmark PKS1830–211 lensing galaxy at redshift z=0.89 observed with the Effelsberg 100-m radio telescope, the Institute de Radio Astronomie Millimétrique 30-m telescope, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. Ten different absorption lines of CH3OH covering a wide range of sensitivity coefficients Kμ are used to derive a purely statistical 1σ constraint of Δμ/μ=(1.5±1.5)×10−7 for a lookback time of 7.5 billion years. Systematic effects of chemical segregation, excitation temperature, frequency dependence, and time variability of the background source are quantified. A multidimensional linear regression analysis leads to a robust constraint of Δμ/μ=(−1.0±0.8stat±1.0sys)×10−7.

  • Constraints on changes in the proton-electron mass ratio using methanol lines
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1745-3925 .- 1745-3933. ; 448:1, s. L104-L108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) absorption spectroscopy in four methanol (CH3OH) lines in the z = 0.885 82 gravitational lens towards PKS1830-211. Three of the four lines have very different sensitivity coefficients K-mu to changes in the proton-electron mass ratio mu; a comparison between the line redshifts thus allows us to test for temporal evolution in mu. We obtain a stringent statistical constraint on changes in mu by comparing the redshifted 12.179 and 60.531 GHz lines, [Delta mu/mu] 4 sigma significance). The sensitivity of the above result, and that of all earlier CH3OH studies, is thus likely to be limited by unknown systematic errors, probably arising due to the frequency-dependent structure of PKS1830-211. A robust result is obtained by combining the three lines at similar frequencies, 48.372, 48.377 and 60.531 GHz, whose line profiles are found to be in good agreement. This yields the 2 sigma constraint [Delta mu/mu] less than or similar to 4 x 10(-7), the most stringent current constraint on changes in mu. We thus find no evidence for changes in the proton-electron mass ratio over a lookback time of approximate to 7.5 Gyr.

  • Testing the variability of the proton-to-electron mass ratio from observations of methanol in the dark cloud core L1498
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. - 0035-8711 .- 1365-2966. ; 472:4, s. 4434-4443
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dependence of the proton-to-electron mass ratio, μ, on the local matter density was investigated using methanol emission in the dense dark cloud core L1498. Towards two different positions in L1498, five methanol transitions were detected and an extra line was tentatively detected at a lower confidence level in one of the positions. The observed centroid frequencies were then compared with their rest-frame frequencies derived from least-squares fitting to a large data set. Systematic effects, as the underlying methanol hyperfine structure and the Doppler tracking of the telescope, were investigated and their effects were included in the total error budget. The comparison between the observations and the rest-frame frequencies constrains potential μ variation at the level of Δμ/μ

  • Gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography of the pelvic arteries
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Investigative Radiology. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 0020-9996 .- 1536-0210. ; 38:8, s. 504-515
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate 4 doses of gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA) for contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) of the pelvic arteries and to compare CE-MRA with unenhanced time-of-flight MRA (2D-TOF-MRA). METHODS: A multicenter Phase II dose-finding study was performed in 136 patients with Gd-BOPTA doses of 0.025, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mmol/kg bodyweight. Evaluation of CE-MRA images and comparison with 2D-TOF-MRA images was performed onsite and by 2 blinded offsite reviewers in terms of subjective image quality, number of lesions detected, and confidence in lesion characterization. RESULTS: Significant (P < 0.05) improvements over unenhanced findings were observed for CE-MRA at all dose levels. For reviewer 1 and the onsite investigators, the overall image quality increased up to a dose of 0.1 mmol/kg and then plateaued. For reviewer 2, increased image quality was noted up to a dose of 0.2 mmol/kg. Significant (P < 0.005) increases in diagnostic confidence on CE-MRA versus unenhanced MRA was observed for all dose groups by reviewer 1 and the onsite investigators and for the 0.1 and 0.2 mmol/kg dose groups by reviewer 2. No serious adverse events were recorded that were attributable to the study drug and no trends in laboratory parameters, vital signs, or electrocardiogram recordings were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRA is safe and significantly more effective than unenhanced 2D-TOF-MRA for imaging the pelvic arteries. A dose of 0.1 mmol/kg appears the most appropriate dose for subsequent Phase III clinical evaluation.
