  • Correlations in the electronic structure of half-metallic ferromagnetic CrO2 films: An x-ray absorption and resonant photoemission spectroscopy study
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121. ; 72:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electronic structure of high-quality CrO2(100) films was investigated by means of x-ray absorption and resonant photoemission spectroscopy at the 2p-3d excitation threshold. The obtained binding energy of the occupied Cr 3d states is in agreement with the results predicted within the local spin-density approximation using the dynamical mean-field theory [L. Craco , Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 237203 (2003)]. The reported data support a model of CrO2 as a half-metallic ferromagnet with strong electron-correlation effects.

  • Investigation of the stability of Mn-12 single molecule magnets
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics A: Materials Science & Processing. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1432-0630. ; 94:3, s. 491-495
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The stability of single crystals and monolayers of Mn-12 single molecule magnets under the influence of X-ray radiation and other possibly disruptive influences has been investigated by means of synchrotron radiation. Clear evidence for radiation induced sample degradation was found for both single crystals and monolayers. The comparison with spectra obtained after damaging the molecules by Ar+ sputtering, metal evaporation or water moistening indicates a possibility to distinguish between radiation damage and other external influences. The results clarify some of the previous conflicting reports on the integrity of Mn-12 molecules deposited on surfaces and are linked to the investigations aiming at studies of the electronic and magnetic properties of individual Mn-12 clusters.

  • Induced magnetism of carbon atoms at the graphene/Ni(111) interface
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 96:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report an element-specific investigation of electronic and magnetic properties of the graphene/Ni(111) system. Using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, the occurrence of an induced magnetism of the carbon atoms in the graphene layer is observed. We attribute this magnetic moment to the strong hybridization between C pi and Ni 3d valence band states. The net magnetic moment of carbon in the graphene layer is estimated to be in the range of 0.05-0.1 mu(B) per atom.
