  • In situ and laboratory measurement of service equipment decoupling in lightweight constructions
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 42nd International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering 2013 (INTER-NOISE 2013) : Noise Control for Quality of Life - Noise Control for Quality of Life. - 9781632662675 ; 3, s. 1801-1809
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The latest version of the Swiss standard for building acoustics (SIA181) introduced a new measurement method, based on a balanced- Arm hammer, for evaluating the decoupling performance of service equipment. This method was developed for reproducing in a standard manner the manipulation of service equipment in bathrooms and kitchens. In this study, we are investigating the relevance of such method for timber frame building where decoupling performances are particularly important. This study determines the advantages and the limitations of this methodology, which allows identifying the main propagation paths for equipment noise. A series of in-situ measurements has been performed to identify the best building constructions, service equipment configurations but also some workmanship errors. Laboratories investigations have also been conducted to understand and optimize the decoupling of two type service equipment systems.

  • Swiss pendling hammer for decoupling measurement of Swiss methodology for decoupling measurement of service equipment in buildings
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 41st International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering 2012, INTER-NOISE 2012. - 9781627485609 ; 12, s. 10293-10301
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The latest edition of the Swiss standard SIA181(2006) Protection against noise in Buildings [1], introduces a new methodology regarding the tests to be performed in new constructions for noise induced by human using service equipment in bathroom and kitchen. In this method, a specific pendling hammer has been developed especially for evaluating the decoupling efficiency of service equipment. The goals for this work are to determine the advantages and the limitations of method especially for lightweight constructions. For example, in some cases the airborne contribution of the pendling hammer noise can become critical and leads to an overestimation of the uncoupling. This project should also identify the main propagation paths for equipment noise. A large number of in-situ measurements have been done for various building constructions and services equipment in Swiss and Swedish constructions. Some additional laboratories investigations have been conducted to optimize the decoupling of service equipment to fulfill the Swiss requirements.

  • Swiss pendulous hammer for decoupling measurement of service equipment in wooden multi-storey building
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: EURONOISE 2012 - 9th European Conference on Noise Control. - 2226-5147. - 9788001050132 ; , s. 224-229
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The latest Swiss standard SIA181 (6-2006 edition [1]) introduces a new methodology regarding the tests to be performed in new constructions for assessing noise induced by the manipulation of service equipment in bathrooms and kitchens. However, this method has been developed especially for massive constructions. In this study, we are investigating the relevance of such method for timber frame building, with typical structures including boxes, frames, massive floors, retrofitting solutions. Decoupling performances are particularly important in lightweight constructions, and the pendulous hammer method is actually aiming at evaluating the decoupling of service equipments. The goals for this work are to determine the advantages and the limitations of this method for theses specific cases. For example, airborne contribution can become critical and deserves a specific control. This project should also identify the main propagation paths for equipment noise. A series of in-situ measurements has been performed for various building constructions and service equipments. Some additional laboratories investigations have been conducted to optimize the decoupling of service equipments to fulfill the Swiss SIA standard requirements.
