  • Overview of physics results from MAST towards ITER/DEMO and the MAST Upgrade
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 0029-5515 .- 1741-4326. ; 53:10, s. 104008-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New diagnostic, modelling and plant capability on the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST) have delivered important results in key areas for ITER/DEMO and the upcoming MAST Upgrade, a step towards future ST devices on the path to fusion currently under procurement. Micro-stability analysis of the pedestal highlights the potential roles of micro-tearing modes and kinetic ballooning modes for the pedestal formation. Mitigation of edge localized modes (ELM) using resonant magnetic perturbation has been demonstrated for toroidal mode numbers n = 3, 4, 6 with an ELM frequency increase by up to a factor of 9, compatible with pellet fuelling. The peak heat flux of mitigated and natural ELMs follows the same linear trend with ELM energy loss and the first ELM-resolved T-i measurements in the divertor region are shown. Measurements of flow shear and turbulence dynamics during L-H transitions show filaments erupting from the plasma edge whilst the full flow shear is still present. Off-axis neutral beam injection helps to strongly reduce the redistribution of fast-ions due to fishbone modes when compared to on-axis injection. Low-k ion-scale turbulence has been measured in L-mode and compared to global gyro-kinetic simulations. A statistical analysis of principal turbulence time scales shows them to be of comparable magnitude and reasonably correlated with turbulence decorrelation time. T-e inside the island of a neoclassical tearing mode allow the analysis of the island evolution without assuming specific models for the heat flux. Other results include the discrepancy of the current profile evolution during the current ramp-up with solutions of the poloidal field diffusion equation, studies of the anomalous Doppler resonance compressional Alfven eigenmodes, disruption mitigation studies and modelling of the new divertor design for MAST Upgrade. The novel 3D electron Bernstein synthetic imaging shows promising first data sensitive to the edge current profile and flows.

  • Preparation and characterization of 33S samples for 33S(n,alpha)30Si cross-section measurements at the n_TOF facility at CERN
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 890, s. 142-147
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thin 33S samples for the study of the 33S(n,alpha)30Si cross-section at the n_TOF facility at CERN were made by thermal evaporation of 33S powder onto a dedicated substrate made of kapton covered with thin layers of copper, chromium and titanium. This method has provided for the first time bare sulfur samples a few centimeters in diameter. The samples have shown an excellent adherence with no mass loss after few years and no sublimation in vacuum at room temperature. The determination of the mass thickness of 33S has been performed by means of Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. The samples have been successfully tested under neutron irradiation.

  • Temperature dependence of the magnetic interlayer ordering in Fe(3)/V(14)Hx (001) superlattices
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Superlattices and Microstructures. - : Elsevier BV. - 0749-6036 .- 1096-3677. ; 43:2, s. 101-111
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The magnetic interlayer ordering in Fe(3)/V (14)Hx (001) superlattices exhibits dramatic changes on changing the hydrogen concentration. From initial antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling with , the introduction of H (H/V atomic ratio of 0.06) gives rise to ferromagnetic (FM) alignment at room temperature. When cooled, the magnetic ordering exhibits a transition from FM to a canted state below 200 K. Further increase of the hydrogen content (H/V ≈1) gives rise to FM-ordering at temperatures between 30 and 300 K.

  • Clog : A Declarative Language for C Static Code Checkers
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: CC 2024 - Proceedings of the 33rd ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Compiler Construction. - 9798400705076 ; , s. 186-197
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present Clog, a declarative language for describing static code checkers for C. Unlike other extensible state-of-the-art checker frameworks, Clog enables powerful interprocedural checkers without exposing the underlying program representation: Clog checkers consist of Datalog-style recursive rules that access the program under analysis via syntactic pattern matching and control flow edges only. We have implemented Clog on top of Clang, using a custom Datalog evaluation strategy that piggy-backs on Clang’s AST matching facilities while working around Clang’s limitations to achieve our design goal of representation independence. Our experiments demonstrate that Clog can concisely express a wide variety of checkers for different security vulnerabilities, with performance that is similar to Clang’s own analyses and highly competitive on real-world programs.

  • Self assembly of magnetic nanoparticles at silicon surfaces
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Soft Matter. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1744-683X .- 1744-6848. ; 11:23, s. 4695-4704
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron reflectometry was used to study the assembly of magnetite nanoparticles in a water-based ferrofluid close to a silicon surface. Under three conditions, static, under shear and with a magnetic field, the depth profile is extracted. The particles have an average diameter of 11 nm and a volume density of 5% in a D2O-H2O mixture. They are surrounded by a 4 nm thick bilayer of carboxylic acid for steric repulsion. The reflectivity data were fitted to a model using a least square routine based on the Parratt formalism. From the scattering length density depth profiles the following behavior is concluded: the fits indicate that excess carboxylic acid covers the silicon surface and almost eliminates the water in the densely packed wetting layer that forms close to the silicon surface. Under constant shear the wetting layer persists but a depletion layer forms between the wetting layer and the moving ferrofluid. Once the flow is stopped, the wetting layer becomes more pronounced with dense packing and is accompanied by a looser packed second layer. In the case of an applied magnetic field the prolate particles experience a torque and align with their long axes along the silicon surface which leads to a higher particle density.
