- Inom ramen för detta projekt har två tvärspråkliga kurser med inriktning mot litteratur och genus skapats, SPL131 och SPL132. Vi ville genom projektet samla den pedagogiska och ämnesmässiga kompetens kring genusfrågor som redan fanns inom olika språkämnen. Detta skulle gynna både studenter och lärare. Studenterna skulle erbjudas ett ökat kursutbud och lärarna skulle få möjlighet att lära av varandra och dela pedagogiska och teoretiska erfarenheter i ett nybildat, tvärspråkligt lärarlag. Projektidén föddes 2009 när flera språkinstitutioner slogs samman till en, Institutionen för Språk och Litteraturer (SPL). Sammanslagningen gjorde det lättare att samarbeta över ämnesgränserna. Likväl kvarstod utmaningen att balansera de vidgade perspektiv som samarbetet mellan olika språk kan innebära mot en fortsatt god specialisering för studenterna inom de olika språken. Vi har inom de kurser som skapats försökt ta oss an denna utmaning på ett nytänkande sätt. Samverkan har utgått från ett gemensamt tema, ”genus”, och lärarlaget har arbetat aktivt med såväl co-teaching som peer-coaching. Studenternas perspektiv och bildning har vidgats. Kurserna har på ett unikt sätt kombinerat språkspecifik färdighetsträning med språkområdesövergripande undervisning och samtal kring samspelet mellan litteratur, språk och kulturell kontext genom tiderna.

- In 1541 the fourth and last text published under the pseudonym Hélisenne de Crenne appears. While the previous work of the author consists of a series of narrations – in various genres, but all of them dealing with different aspects of love – her last text is a prose translation into French of the first four books of Virgil’s Aeneid. Virgil’s masterpiece is however present throughout Crenne’s work, as are other classical sources. The present contribution will focus on Crenne’s translation of the Aeneid and further explore the nature of its relations with the original text, as well as other sources, such as the translation carried out by Octovien de Saint Gelais, published in 1509. It gives an overall view of de Crenne’s translation, but also presents some examples from the fourth book illustrating the nature of de Crenne’s work.

De Inconexis Continuum - A Study of the Late Antique Latin Wedding Centos

- The kind of literature that is called cento is studied in this thesis with a special focus on two late antique Latin wedding poems, Cento Nuptialis written by Ausonius in the late 4th century A.D., and Epithalamium Fridi probably written in Carthage some hundred years later. These two poems are the only late antique Latin centos which belong to the same genre; they are therefore investigated with the aim of showing how centos belonging to the same genre may relate in different ways to both their text of origin and their genre. The method used is based on the belief that centos are best described as ‘open works,’ with a wide ‘field of possibilities.’ In the analyses a hermeneutical approach is applied, and the Model Reader’s interpretations are in focus. The two wedding centos relate in different ways to text of origin and genre. Associations which forecast the events of the part of the poem called Imminutio, a ‘notion of combat’, and the double circumstances lying behind the composition of the poem are found crucial for the interpretation of Cento Nuptialis. The humour of the Imminutio part is explained as a result of incongruity between cento, text of origin and genre-expectations. In Epithalamium Fridi, it is shown that the text of origin is sub- ordinated to the panegyric scope of the epithalamium of occasion. Some general conclusions are cautiously suggested. These concern: various kinds of reinterpretation of the text of origin through the lens of a cento; different kinds of guidance for the interpretation of a cento; and different functions for which centos may be particularly apt, e.g. subversive and humorous poems.

- This article discusses the first translation into French prose of the first four books of Virgil’s Aeneid, Les Quatre premiers livres des Eneydes du treselegant poete Virgile, Traduictz de Latin en prose Francoyse, par ma dame Helisenne. The translation appeared in 1541 under the pen name Hélisenne de Crenne, who was already an established author. The translation was her last work and may be seen as the keystone of her œuvre, both because of her previous allusions to the classical tradition and because of the common theme of illicit love. Crenne’s translation is free enough to raise questions about its nature as well as its sources. The interpreter apparently found inspiration not only in Virgil’s text, but also in a French verse translation from 1509 by Octovien de Saint-Gelais. Nonetheless, she skilfully manages to shift focus in the story, often in very subtle ways. With examples from the first book, this article shows how Crenne’s version enriches the preceding narrative’s inherent discourse on predetermination versus individual responsibility.
